. Due to the importance of studying the dynamics of fluids and the impasses in carrying out experiments in this context, it is relevant to develop computational means to visualize flows that are efficient and can offer results that are sufficiently close to reality. That said, this work consists of verifying the IMERSPEC 2D methodology, which combines Fourier pseudospectral and immersed boundary methods to simulate the boundary conditions, based on the simulation of a laminar and two-dimensional flow between two plates over a square cross section ledge. The objective is to validate the methodology and the independence of the results by refining the division number of the physical domain. The results presented in the present work show the velocity fields obtained from four simulations with different placement points and the experimental results by Onur and Baydar (1992), that was used as a reference, are compared. It was possible to observe that the proposal offers a satisfactory approximation to reality under the suggested conditions.

Due to the market demand for devices with high processing capacity, thermal control techniques involving conduction and convection have become ineffective, given the requirement to dissipate high heat fluxes. Thus, thermal management involving phase change has become an alternative. Therefore, this work proposes to evaluate the pool boiling heat transfer of deionized water using a micro pin fin heating surface of metal foam. The micro pin fins were manufactured using the EDM process. For comparison purposes, a flat surface and a surface with the addition of metal foam, with the same thickness as the micro pin fins, were tested under the same operating conditions. It was found that segmented channels, originating from the addition of micro pin fins, benefit heat transfer at high heat fluxes due to the combination of increased surface area and reduced resistance to the departure of vapor bubbles .

. Stoplogs are robust equipment normally used in sewage treatment plants, irrigation and hydroelectric power plants, with the aim of containing the flow of water in the upstream-downstream direction. However, when the passage of water is allowed, storage control of this equipment is not always planned out. The objective of this work is to carry out a structural analysis of the suspension device of the supplementary water intake of the Oiticica dam in Jucurutu/RN, used to support and maintain the lower panel of the stoplog during use and opening of the water intake, given the need for storage. For this, a U-beam with a 4”x1.5/8”x3/16” profile was considered, with bending stress calculations being performed for a beam supported on both ends, and a structural static simulation was carried out, considering the movement made by the electric hoist. The results of these calculations attested that the suggested beam is sufficient to safely keep the lower panel of the stoplog suspended.

Heat exchangers are devices that facilitate the heat exchange between two or more fluids that are at different temperatures and apart from one another, and they can have several different forms, including shell-and-tubes, serpentine, fins, plates, concentric tubes, among others. In the present work an experimental investigation of slope influence of thermosyphons applied to cross-flow heat exchangers was performed. To that effect, thermosyphons were manufactured in copper with an outer diameter of 9.45mm, an inner diameter of 7.75mm, and a total length of 180mm, of which 60mm are for the evaporator, 60mm are for the adiabatic section, and 60mm are for the condenser. The thermosyphons were filled with distilled water with 40% of the evaporator volume, tested experimentally at different slopes (0, 22.5, 45, 67.5, and 90° in relation to the horizontal) under power dissipations ranging from 1 to 11W and its cooling being performed by air forced convection. The thermal analysis was based on the temperature distribution along the length, on the operating temperature and on the thermal resistance. In view of the results observed for thermal performance, it was possible to determine that the best working slope was 67.5° in relation to the horizontal, given that it presented lower values of thermal resistance and lower operating temperature.
