The article analyzes modern approaches to the political identity of Russian youth. The author analyzes similarities and differences of life experience, values, orientations, forms of political participation of generations Y and Z and substantiates the position about the lack of mass interest in politics among young people before the events of February 2022. State actors of youth policy deliberately depoliticized the agenda. Private interests dominated the interpersonal and group communications of young people. To counteract modern internal and external challenges, it is advisable to reformat youth policy. The management of the cognitive, emotional, and activity blocks of political identity and political culture is actualized in conditions of confrontation with the collective West. Considering the peculiarities of communication between generations Y and Z, it is advisable to pay special attention to working with public opinion leaders in social media.
