Ethnolinguistic studies are closely related to linguogeography. They use mapping methods and the results of mapping dialect phenomena. Therefore, not only dialectological studies complement ethnolinguistic ones, but also ethnolinguistic ones can verify and supplement dialect data. The tasks of ethnolinguistic research differ. The role of auxiliary dialect information depends on the research objectives. Thus, dialectological information is very important in the study of resettlement traditions. In turn, an ethnolinguistic survey of traditional culture in such localities can con firm their dialect af filiation. The presence of a dialect atlas makes it possible to con firm the areal characteristics of the dialect of the studied tradition (especially when information about the resettlement has not been preserved and has been erased from the memory of the population over the 200-year period of stay in another country). Comparing these characteristics with the collected linguistic and cultural data, it is possible to separate the facts peculiar to the primordial archaic tradition from the later layers and interference phenomena. Broader generalizations can be reached in the ethnolinguistic survey of settlements located in the zone of transitional or mixed dialects. Dialect material also helps in solving lexicographic tasks, namely the tasks of compiling ethnolinguistic dictionaries.

Women have been involved in the creation of Polish literature since the 17th century. A new page in the history of Polish literature, which came after 1989, is associated with the rapid development of feminism. An important phenomenon of poetry at the beginning of the XXI century was the abundance of female names: at this time, the authors of the older generation, such as V. Szymborska, E. Lipska, K. Miłobędzka, J. Hartwig, continue to create, but new names also appear: J. Mueller, M. Cyranowicz, J. Bargielska, M. Podgórnik, M. Lebda, J. Fiedorchuk, M. B. Kielar. Contemporary Polish women’s poetry is very soulful, sensual and deep, it is filled with empathy, and at the same time it is subjective. Corporeality and frankness become one of the characteristic features of women’s writing: women’s poetry tells more openly and directly about the most intimate experiences.

The thesis deals with popular descriptions of several Slavonic languages published in the 7 th volume of Russian “People’s Encyclopedia of the Scientific and Applied Knowledge” 110 years ago. The author states that those descriptions supplemented by seven commented texts may be regarded as some prototype of the later, however unfinished, manual of Slavonic linguistics by A. M. Selishchev and finally of the fundamental, although quite differently built Outline of the Comparative Grammar of the Slavonic Languages by Samuil B. Bernstein. Their relative simplicity enables using them, including the texts which only sometimes require some revision, in teaching of the Comparative Slavonic Linguistics also nowadays.

The article examines the perception of Russian literature by the Czech literary criticism of the liberal-democratic political orientation from the magazine Rozpravy avenitna in the 1920s. For this ideological direction, the selection of authors of modern Russian literature was made according to the criteria of closeness to European culture and the continuation of the traditions of Russian classics (I. Erenburg), while writers from the ideologically opposite camp were given a negative assessment or were not noticed at all (V.Mayakovsky). Some writers, in turn, were “torn apart” by the opposing camps, attributing their views to them (S. Yesenin, Y. Zamyatin).

Reconstruction of Proto-slav. lexical fund requires researches of dialect lexic. Verb family *tem- / *tom- was reconstructed with supposed semantics ‘strangle’ and genetic connection with I.-E. *tem‘stuned (= deprived of air)’ on the base of South Slavic lexicon. In the article some dialect East Slav. verbs are analysed as additions to Proto-slav. *tem- / *tom- and on the base the initial semantics of the family is reconstructed as ‘beat’. So the genetic connection of Protoslav *tem- / *tom with I.-E. *stem- ‘beat’ (>*tem- ‘stuned (= deprived of air)’) is supposed.

In the course of research of the “Revival Process” in Bulgaria in the 1970–80s, special attention is paid to forcible exclusion of representatives of the Muslim community from the socio-cultural and literary context of Bulgaria due to political reasons. Study of the life and works of Svilen Kapsazov, who suffered from the “Revival process”, helps to underline speci fics of the anti-totalitarian literature of Bulgaria.

“The Dictionary of Slavic Antiquities” is an encyclopaedic summary of the current state of knowledge about the history and culture of the Slavs on a global scale. The first attempts to create this dictionary were undertaken in 1927 but only its post-war concept was fully successful. This article presents the course of work on the dictionary, the stages of its creation, as well as the specifics of the entire publishing process.

In the course of convergent development, the peoples living on the Balkan Peninsula signi ficantly influenced each other, borrowing numerous cultural and linguistic phenomena. Thus determined the formation of the Balkan cultural and linguistic landscape. It is interesting to analyse the idioms with the meaning of blessing and curse in the Balkan Slavic languages, in particular in Bulgarian, Macedonian and Serbian, in comparison with the non-Slavic Albanian language. The found correspondences demonstrate a high degree of interlingual and intercultural interaction of these neighboring peoples.

Typological features of Slavic languages phonetic systems are construed in the report in terms of one of Common Slavic processes — re flexivity of long consonant sounds that appeared in Slavic consonant systems as a result of mutual adaptation of consonants in combinations that appeared after the disappearance of ultrashort vowels in weak position.
