There are two pluperfect forms in Pskov dialects: “to be (past tense) + vši-form” and “to be (past tense) +l-form”. The first one has a resultative meaning and should be considered in the row of other perfective forms with the verb to be in the present tense, future tense and in the form of subjunctive mood. The second one has a meaning of discontinuous past. Apparently, it is a grammeme of the past tense and it is opposed to the “simple” past tense by the meaning of the irrelevance of the action to the present. There are similar systems with two pluperfect forms in other Slavic and non-Slavic languages.

The paper offers an interpretation of some Rezyan toponyms. The mountainous landscape of Rezya has determined the importance of the spatial landmarks ‘top — bottom’, ‘west — east’. The Rezyan language widely uses compound prepositions to express these relations, often in combination with adverbial particles (cf. ‘there-in’). An archaic feature is the use of idioms for the orientation marks ‘right’, ‘left’.

In the report, the most frequent Slovak and Hungarian temporal adverbs with the meaning of high repeatability of the situation are considered on the corpus material. The compatibility of lexemes is analyzed according to the indicators of association measures, on this basis, the main trends characteristic of the structuring of the semantic group in each of the two spatially bordering languages are identified. It is shown that the Slovak language, more than Hungarian, tends to semanticize lexemes within a group, as well as to mark non-standard, according to the speaker, situations.

Samuil B. Bernstein was one of the most renowned Soviet and Russian Slavists, who had an unmatched scholarly breadth and depth and was interested in all aspects of Slavic linguistics. Though he was famous as a specialist in the South Slavic languages and Slavic historical and comparative grammar, he was equally interested in West Slavic languages, particularly in Polish, including Kashubian. In his lifetime, Bernstein did not write much about Kashubian, but from little that he wrote, it seems clear that he changed his views toward Kashubian several times. In this presentation, I will analyze Bernstein’s published and unpublished materials in order to establish at what points in his career, and for what reasons, he changed his views on Kashubian.

Andreychin”, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, — the new in their concepts and realization. A comparison is made between them and the ethnolinguistic lexicographic products made by collaborators of the Moscow and Lublin schools.

The text discusses the names for ‘doll, puppet’ in the Macedonian dialects and their etymology, as well as the motivations for their derivation. This analysis provides an insight into the place of the Macedonian dialects in relation to this issue in the wider Slavic context. The name kukla, which is most widespread on the Macedonian dialect territory, connects the Macedonian dialects with the other East Slavic languages. Many of the names used in dialects, such as kukla, are borrowings from other languages. Those of Slavic origin, as well as borrowings, are basically derived from lexemes denoting a young girl. For this analysis, the dialect material from the Slavic Linguistic Atlas (OLA) is used, in which the Macedonian dialect territory is represented with 24 villages.

The report is devoted to a comparative analysis of two manuscripts of commemorative books of the 16th century from the monastery of St. John the Baptist in Macedonia: manuscript CMNL 1015 in Sofia and manuscript ONSL 1/116 in Odessa. Both manuscripts are supposed to presumably represent one monument of ancient writing made in two copies. Over time, the original variant and the copy were chaotically mixed up and ended up in different museum collections of the two countries — Bulgaria and Ukraine.

“Watra” magazine is published by the Union of Lemkos in Poland. It represents the views of those Lemkos who consider themselves part of the Ukrainian nation and believe their language is a Ukrainian dialect as opposed to those Lemkos who claim to constitute a separate nation with a separate Lemko language. According to the editorial policy the magazine publishes texts in both standard Ukrainian and different versions of the Lemko dialect which allows to study the ongoing processes in the Lemko vernacular.
