The importance of copyright protection has increased with the rapid spread of content distribution services. In one means of copyright protection, contents are protected by encryption. In this method, license keys are essential and distributed to decrypt contents. The paper presents a new method of license key management that can manage contents as groups. It uses some group keys in addition to license keys for decrypting content. Each of the group keys can decrypt all contents belonging to each group. As an example of applying the proposed method, a cooking recipe distribution system is introduced.

USB on-the-go interface for portable devices 便携式设备的USB移动接口

The need to connect portable electronic devices to each other has accelerated the adoption of USB on-the-go as an industry standard wired interface. This paper presents an overview of USB on-the-go, and explores some of the applications that this interface enables. Cell phones present a unique challenge to this interface, because of their need to also connect to an analog carkit. The way in which USB on-the-go was adapted to address this requirement is also described.

An EAA traffic conditioner in differential services home gateway 差别化业务家庭网关中的EAA话务调节器

The file sizes of on going flows are fairly disparate on the home network environment. We propose an "age-based" packet discard scheme in the traffic conditioner (TC) of a home gateway (HG), which is referred as EAA model, to improve the performance of file transmission. The on going flows will be grouped to three classes of priority according to their "age" as the HG congestion occurs and the simulation results show that the proposed model can work efficiently in most of the congestion conditions.

An application of autonomous computing for the automotive industry 自动计算在汽车工业中的应用

Technologies and services such as Bluetooth/sup TM/, Onstar/sup TM/, Carfax/sup TM/, GPS, black box recorders, electronic keys, and collective distributed computing have all lent their offerings in hopes of contributing to goals of improving the driving experience, whether by combining commuting needs, improving crash survivability, improving trafficking or instant destination rerouting. Each of these technologies requires only the manufacturer, governing laws, and the consumer to implement in order to reap their featured benefits. Autonomous computing is much different in this respect because it will require many more players than any other technology. Additional organizations that must be employed to make this vision a reality are: consumer services organizations, local, and state municipalities, and the National Department of Transportation. This may, if proven effective, be the catalyst in restructuring the automotive insurance industry as a whole.

This paper presents a generalized Braat-Hopkins model for read-only and re-writable optical channels. The objective is to expose the effect of code rate and recording density on the various parameters of the channel model, so that this model can be used to assess the receiver performance for various code rates and recording densities.

The latest models of low-end consumer digital cameras have begun to support A/V streaming directly to the memory card. This greatly enhances the utility of the camera to an end user. We investigate techniques to provide a similar streaming service from camera directly to a wireless network server.

Reliable detection of video watermarks using inferential statistics 利用推理统计可靠检测视频水印

Errors in watermark detection can cause serious problems, such as erroneous copy control and misindication of illegal copying. This paper proposes a new watermark method which prevents detection errors by using the expectation-maximization algorithm from inferential statistics. Experimental evaluations have confirmed its reliability.

A unified metric for digital video processing and its applications in home video systems 数字视频处理的统一度量及其在家庭视频系统中的应用

MPEG-2 encoded video is widely used in digital home scenarios. To achieve better performance for MPEG sources, we propose a unified metric for digital video processing, UMDVP. The UMDVP is based on coding information and it also takes the local scene content into account. We have integrated the UMDVP with postprocessing functions such as resolution enhancement and artifact reduction. Experimental results demonstrate the benefit of the proposed metric. Various digital video products can use the new approach to achieve better performance for compressed video.

This paper discusses the architecture of a highly-integrated subsystem for optical disc engines that operate with write-once (CD-R, DVD+R) and erasable (CD-RW DVD+RW) media. Cost-efficient, high-performance optical disc players and recorders for audio/video and computer applications can be built by using only a few additional integrated circuits (ICs). The described system-on-chip (SoC) has been designed to write DVD+R/RW discs at overspeeds up to 8X and read DVDs at maximum 16X. The operation in the so-called super combo mode is also possible, for which the SoC has been prepared to record compact discs at overspeeds as high as 48X and play them back at 56X.

System requirements and considerations for visual table of contents in personal video recording

With the introduction of non-tape based digital video recorders, consumers can expect alternative navigation methods to the well-known trick-play modes found on analog and digital tape-based systems. In this paper, we explore the system requirements and aspects of the Visual Table of Content (VTOC). One reason for implementing a VTOC search mode is that it provides a much higher visual performance at high search speeds (50 times or higher) than the conventional search techniques. We present a solution based on re-using MPEG-compressed video data to generate the video signal for the visual search. The video search signal is composed of a set of sub-pictures (mosaic screen) each of which is MPEG compressed An efficient strategy is introduced that allows either full or partial re-use of the compressed sub-pictures to allow the generation of a new mosaic screen.
