QoP-driven scheduling for MPEG video decoding qop驱动的MPEG视频解码调度

Dropped or incorrectly decoded frames degrade a video's quality of presentation (QoP), which can be conveniently measured by the number of correctly decoded frames. We demonstrate that the frame completion ratio (CR) does not represent well the QoP of an MPEG video. We then propose a new QoP metric and a set of online scheduling algorithms that achieve better QoP, particularly for overloaded systems.

We introduce a novel home network system for creating a new service architecture by connecting home appliances, networked using Bluetooth technology, with the Internet. We also show a method of controlling/monitoring networked home appliances with commands that are implicitly integrated within the service contents offered by an application service provider to a user. Finally, we discuss the advantages of this system.

A reliable power line carrier and wireless data concentrator for broadband energy information network 宽带能源信息网络可靠的电力线载体和无线数据集中器

The paper presents a hybrid data concentrator for Internet access control of a broadband energy information network system (ENIS). The transmission media between the data concentrator and its associated home energy controllers (HEC) are based on either a power line carrier (PLC) or a low power wireless channel for improved reliability. To install such a system, we propose a channel reliability estimation method for selecting the appropriate transmission channel. Furthermore, the overall system has been tested to justify its validity and reliability, and the specifications of the PLC and RF modules, as well as the embedded system are briefly illustrated.

This paper proposes the basic concepts and functions of the home server platform for implementing a digital home. Our home server has various kinds of home network devices and multimedia processing modules. The digital TV (D-TV) service and remote multimedia service are available, and the instant message service is implemented on the basis of open service gateway initiative (OSGi) framework. It is certain that our home server can be a core device of the home digital service environments.

This paper describes a lens distortion correction method suitable for low cost digital cameras. Lens distortion coefficient is estimated via simplified camera calibration, after which image warping with inverse spatial mapping adapted for a DSP architecture is applied. Experimental results show that image quality after distortion correction provides comparable performance as when a quality lens system of distortion less than 2% is adopted.

Error concealment algorithm using interested direction for JPEG 2000 image transmission 基于兴趣方向的jpeg2000图像传输错误隐藏算法

The newly defined JPEG 2000 delivers scalable and region-of-interest images with lower bit rates in Internet and wireless communications. However, any data loss in the JPEG 2000 bitstream affects the consequent bitplanes and even possibly destroys the whole picture. We propose a new algorithm to recover the damaged bitplane data according to the interested directional pattern in the subband. Simulation results show that the proposed concealment algorithm can achieve much smoother edges on the reconstructed image.

Finding the designated video shots from a video stream within a short time is a big issue in multimedia consumer electronic applications. For a large reduction in the time needed to access the desired video shots, a new system for retrieving the specific shots has been built utilizing on-line motion detection with DSP. Specific video shots can be retrieved at a reduced processing time by using DSP because a series of Y signal image frames and motion vectors are generated on-line by newly utilizing the DSP applications. The image frame codes resulting from the retrieval easily pick up only the designated video shots from the video stream.

A new energy-recovery-sustain circuit suitable for a plasma display panel (PDP) application is proposed. The proposed circuit features the low device voltage/current stresses, and the inherent circulating current elimination characteristics, essential to design a power efficient and low cost plasma display driver circuit. The proposed circuit is demonstrated experimentally for driving a 42-inch plasma display panel. It is best suited in a low cost and power efficient plasma display.
