The Indonesian language as the medium of instruction indirectly affects all sectors of life across the nation. Starting from business, workplace, and entertainment to education, Indonesian language is used as the main standard language. The usage of the Indonesian language leads the hypothesized thought that it may in one side eradicate the existing tribal languages gradually. While in another side it may also have beneficial aspects like helping people (different ethnic group) to communicate as well as assisting remote learners to study English better. Due to the cases happen in two divergent conditions, this paper examines the use of Indonesian language in facilitating learners to study English. The result of this short paper shows that Indonesian language implication to some extent helps learners to study English better than those who use tribal language as their daily language to communicate. In term of second language acquisition, Indonesian language helps learners achieve some words through translation. Children in different region have different language acquisition as well as their style of learning a foreign language. Those who live in a “sophisticated” area are likely familiar with the Indonesian language that leads them learn English better than those who live in a suburban area.

This article orients to expose the philosophical frame of communicative Arabic teaching. Communicative Arabic teaching has a strong philosophical framework because this modern teaching approach directs the Arabic language to its original position as a tool to communicate. In this context, the ontology dealing with the essence of Arabic teaching as a pedagogical reality, the epistemology dealing with its procedural framework and the ontology dealing with its value framework see that communicative Arabic teaching should be developed with a suitable educational philosophy reinforcing the Arabic to its functional-communicative framework. This article, finally, presents an alternative analysis to perceive communicative Arabic teaching.

This study aims to describe Qira'ah Shadzah and its role in continuity the dialect of Arabic, especially the verses related to Qira'ah Shadzah contained in chapter Al-Imran. This study used descriptive-normative and comparative methods. The results show that Qira'ah Shadzah made an important contribution in maintaining the continuity of Arab dialect. This is derived from the observation of some Qira'ah Shadzah because there is a change of vowel, such as the transfer from fathah to dhamma, from kasrah to dhamma, from fathah to kasrah, or from dhamma to kasrah. These changes show that Arab customs differ between desert people and civilized people. Where civilized people more often use fathah and kasrah because both are symbols of meekness, while on the other hand desert people prefer to use the dhammah which is a hard and rough symbol.

Teaching English writing skill which involves developing linguistic and communicative competence of learners is considered a challenging task. When teaching writing, therefore, EFL teachers in general and Indonesian teachers in particular encounter many challenges (i.e. difficulties). This study aims to find out Indonesian teachers’ challenges in teaching English writing skill and discuss possible solutions to remove, or at least, minimize, the problems. The data was collected by interviewing 10 English teachers who come from different part of East Java, Indonesia and teach English in either private or public Junior and Senior High Schools. The instrument used was structured interview. The data collected from the interview was, then, analyzed descriptively. The findings show that there are internal and external factors contribute to the challenges that the teachers confront. The internal factors include linguistic competence, native language interference, motivation and reading habits of the learners, while the external ones include the class condition, aids available for teaching writing and the availability of time. The research findings would facilitate the teachers and the concerning authorities to improve the ELT especially in teaching writing.

This research deals with the placing of the singular in the meaning of the plural in the Quranic verses and the words of the Arabs. Hence, the problem of research is as follows: How did the linguists view the singular status of the plural? Was the use of singular in the meaning of the plural valid for all single words? The type of research used in this field is descriptive qualitative research, using the analytical method of grammar, and the technique of a collection consists of the library method. The result of the study answers this problem and that the advent of the singular in the meaning of the plural is not denounced by the Arabs if the speech is evidence of its collection. This method is mentioned in the Holy Quran and the words of the Arabs. However, not every single word is valid for the meaning of the plural without evidence

The paper discusses the concepts of ‘home’, ‘cultural identity’, and ‘transnationalism’ in Randa Jarrar’s fiction. Being a diasporic Palestinian American, Randa Jarrar in her debut novel A Map of Home presents a particular view of ‘homeland’ and of what ‘historic Palestine’ means to her. The attempt in this paper is to critically analyze her fiction and to highlight the issues that she tackles as a writer of Palestinian origin. The paper also explores the way Randa Jarrar approaches the concept of ‘home’, and an examination of the relationship between Palestinian diasporas and their homeland-Palestine is presented. There is much wandering that Randa Jarrar is experimenting with in rather a creative space, and there is also a counter-narrative ideology embedded in the novel, a way to resist the stereotypes that have fixed the Middle Eastern female body as propagated in Orientalist discourse.
