Optimization Technique for Arc Fault Control on the Navy Integrated Power System (IPS) 海军综合电力系统电弧故障控制优化技术

The Navy IPS is a highly complex network that is often times subjected to high-impact contingencies during operations. Cases that result in arc faults, which pose threats to life, mission, and/or ship components, require effective mitigation with minimal manning. This paper is aimed at developing an optimization strategy for quenching arc faults. The approach is based on (a) nonlinear optimization for optimal allocation of remedial control resources, and (b) discrete optimization that incorporates engineering heuristics using an intelligent system. In the latter case, intelligent decisions are structured into the proposed algorithm to handle discrete control variables. The paper extends the capability of other techniques for solving arc fault control such as rule base systems (RBS). The scheme for improving IPS control and protection against arc fault threats was investigated on a modified Navy IPS.

Application of Particle Swarm Optimization for Economic Load Dispatch Problems 粒子群优化在经济负荷调度问题中的应用

This paper presents an efficient and reliable particle swarm optimization (PSO) method for the economic load dispatch (ELD) problems. The PSO method was developed through the simulation of a simplified social system and has been found to be robust in solving continuous nonlinear optimization problems in terms of accuracy of the solution and computation time and it can out perform other algorithms. The proposed algorithm is applied for the ELD of three unit & six unit thermal plant systems and extended to three plant system in which one plant is combined cycle co-generation plant. The performance of the proposed PSO method is compared with the conventional method and genetic algorithm method and it is observed that this method is reliable and may replace effectively the conventional practices presently performed in different central load dispatch centers. The comparison of results shows that the proposed PSO method was indeed capable of obtaining higher quality solutions efficiently for ELD problems within less computation time.

This paper studies the optimal control of a domestic micro combined heat and power system. The objective function is to reduce the gas and electricity bill of the consumer. The problem is nonlinear and contains continuous and logical variables. Two solutions are compared in this paper: Dynamic Programming and Mixed Integer Linear Programming.

A Framework for Expert Systems Development Integrated to a SCADA/EMS Environment 集成到SCADA/EMS环境中的专家系统开发框架

This paper introduces a new framework for expert systems, fully integrated into a SCADA/EMS real time control software, whose main goal is to support the creation of new applications without demanding the developing of additional rule processing software. In order to validate this framework, two applications that address the daily needs of control centers were developed: SISPRO (alarm processing system) and RECOMP (power systems restoration support system). Results show that this tool allows for quicker problem solving, error reduction and operator capacity increase.

An Artificial Neural Network Approach for Short-Term Electricity Prices Forecasting 短期电价预测的人工神经网络方法

This paper presents an artificial neural network approach for short-term electricity prices forecasting. In the new deregulated framework, producers and consumers require short-term price forecasting to derive their bidding strategies to the electricity market. Accurate forecasting tools are required for producers to maximize their profits and for consumers to maximize their utilities. A three-layered feedforward artificial neural network, trained by the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm, is used for forecasting the next 168 hour electricity prices. We evaluate the accuracy of the price forecasting attained with the proposed approach, reporting the numerical results from a real-world case study based on an electricity market.

Power Controller Design for Photovoltaic Generation System under Partially Shaded Insolation Conditions 部分遮阳条件下光伏发电系统功率控制器设计

Partially shaded photovoltaic (PV) modules typically exhibit additional difficulties in tracking maximum power point (MPP), since their power-voltage (P-V) characteristics are complex and may have multiple local maxima. For this reason, conventional techniques fail to track MPP effectively, if the PV array is partially shaded. This paper presents a novel power compensation and control system for PV arrays under complicated non-uniform insolation conditions. The proposed system is based on forward biasing bypass diode of shaded modules by monitoring dynamic resistance and voltage of PV modules. For this purpose, the proposed system is used DC/DC converter equipped with each PV string in PV array. The proposed system can identify which modules are shaded. The effectiveness of the proposed system is investigated and confirmed for complicated partially shaded PV array.

Learning Models of Plant Behavior for Anomaly Detection and Condition Monitoring 植物行为异常检测和状态监测的学习模型

Providing engineers and asset managers with a tool which can diagnose faults within transformers can greatly assist decision making on such issues as maintenance, performance and safety. However, the onus has always been on personnel to accurately decide how serious a problem is and how urgently maintenance is required. In dealing with the large volumes of data involved, it is possible that faults may not be noticed until serious damage has occurred. This paper proposes the integration of a newly developed anomaly detection technique with an existing diagnosis system. By learning a hidden Markov model of healthy transformer behavior, unexpected operation, such as when a fault develops, can be flagged for attention. Faults can then be diagnosed using the existing system and maintenance scheduled as required, all at a much earlier stage than would previously have been possible.

Support Vector Machine and Polynomial Fitting Approach for radio effective zones under Power Lines in Taiwan Railway 台湾铁路电力线下无线电有效区域的支持向量机与多项式拟合

The purpose of this paper is to research the radio effective zones related to the service of a radio system for the dispatch of trolleys and the operation of level-crossings in the service of Taiwan Railways. The service uses radio and radio propagation to dispatch messages to trolleys and level-crossings throughout the railway system when the critical situation is occurred or the emergency button is pressed by users to allow the train driver to break subsequently. In order to estimate the radio effective zone, we perform some realistic measurements related to level-crossings and trolleys. Then, the data is analyzed using a combination of support vector machine (SVM) and polynomial approximation to estimate the radio effective zone, and create a new optimal model specific to the needs of Western Line, Pingtung Line and the Kaohsiung City local line in the Taiwan Railway context.

In a future distribution network, it is difficult to maintain voltage because a large number of distributed generators are introduced to the system. The authors have proposed an autonomous decentralized voltage control method using power factor control of distributed generators and multi-agent technology. However, the control method does not include the function which saves the reactive power output of distributed generators. In this paper, we propose a new control method which can save the excessive reactive power output. The method is formulated as a differential-difference type equations considering the time-delay with communications between the agents. The proposed method is tested in 4-node and 24-node model. The relationship between control performance and time-delay is discussed.

Particle Swarm Based Optimal Estimation of Block Incremental Cost Curve 基于粒子群的块增量成本曲线最优估计

Competitive electricity market (EM) requires the bid from the electricity supply companies in the required formats which are defined in the market regulations. Block (stair-case) bid and linear bid are two most commonly used bid format for both market and research purposes. In most of the EM, the generating companies (so called energy suppliers) are required to bid their power outputs in blocks with the associated price of each block. For a unit having with multiple fuel and valve point loading effect, the generating company must divide the output power of the unit into the blocks so that it can be bid into the electricity market with and/or without gaming. This paper addresses the estimation of optimal block incremental cost from the instantaneous incremental heat rate curve of a generating unit using particle swarm optimization approach. During each block, the total cost is the same to the cost obtained with the instantaneous incremental cost curve. The formulation is simple and can be used for any generating unit with minimum error at block edges. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated with the case studies.
