Polar codes have been shown to approach capacity of symmetric binary erasure channels. This paper investigates the performance of polar codes over typical urban fading wireless channels. The wireless channel is modeled as a degraded erasure channel by using an inner convolution code. When the convolution code fails to correct any errors, the corresponding bits are discarded and treated as erasures. We present the performance of polar codes over such degraded wireless channels using different code rates for the inner convolution code.

A rectangular core PCF has been investigated. Core with rectangular geometry has been achieved with the help of two elliptical holes with almost twenty one times more area than that of circular holes. The simulated PCF structure has reported almost zero dispersion at second, third and fourth optical windows. It also reports low dispersion at first optical window. Moreover it reports high birefringence. It is found that maximum power has been confined at the centre. Besides normalized frequency and confinement loss has been also studied.

A grid connected PV system with batteries as the energy storage element for application to electric train has been proposed in this paper. Battery packs and PV arrays are cascaded together to the utility through a bidirectional dc converter and boost converter. The PV module terminal voltage is regulated by a switched dc-dc step up boost converter, which uses the Incremental Conductance algorithm to track the maximum power point (MPP).A bidirectional DC/DC converter efficiently regulates flow of power between battery and grid. Bidirectional Inverter provides supporting grid functions which enhances grid stability. Simulation of the proposed system is performed in MATLAB/SIMULINK and the results are found to be satisfactory.

Non Verbal Humanoid communication such as intention and reaction plays an immense role predominantly by using the information about emotion of people will communicate with one another more proficiently. In recent years the research analysis interest is enlightening within the field of human computer interaction. The advance of direct neuro-control over virtual or physical devices would improve quality of life vastly for those that suffer from impaired communication skill. In this method the Electroencephalogram (EEG) primarily based on Brain computer Interface (BCI) system is projected. The thoughts of the person are deep-mined from the brain activity of a selected tangled patient and its hold on within the style of statistics. The word frequencies for elementary crucial necessities like food, water and helping work ought to be spawned and also the knowledge is hold on in matrix representation. Already earned electroencephalogram signal and also the word rates ought to be joined and also the matched frequencies are hold on individually. Finally, the accorded frequencies corresponding words are exhibited using LCD (Liquid Crystal display) display and then the words are transformed into audible signal by means of speech synthesizer.

The rapid growth in wireless communications has contributed to a huge demand on the deployment of new wireless services in both the licensed and unlicensed frequency spectrum. In fixed spectrum assignments there are many frequencies that are not being properly used. So Cognitive radio is a technology that supports a secondary and opportunistic access to licensed spectrum shows great potential to dramatically improve spectrum utilization. Spectrum sensing performed by secondary users to detect unoccupied spectrum bands is a key enabling technique for cognitive radio. However, the sensing time could be still unacceptably long due to the weak PU signal, particularly in non-Gaussian noise. The goal of this project is to improve the spectrum sensing efficiency, by means of sequential sensing scheme based on Suprathreshold Stochastic Resonance (SSR). The performance metrics such as false alarm rate, detection probability, average sample number (ASN) has been considered for analysis. The technique has been analyzed using MATLAB R2010a simulation tool.

With the recent advances in memristors as a potential building block for future hardware, it becomes an important and timely topic to study on memristor modelling. Memristor models are important for designers to exhibit memristor behavior since memristor is not yet available in market. An ideal memristor behavior has been remodel with Generalized Regression Neural Network (GRNN) and presented in this paper. Mathematical equations are used with a set of given memristor process parameters such as RON, ROFF, thickness of TiO2, and instantaneous memristor behaviour is modelled. The behavior of this model is in agreement with the calculations of HP Lab's and Joglekar's SPICE model.

In this paper, three different techniques which can be used for control of three phase PWM Rectifier are discussed. Those three control techniques are Direct Power Control, Indirect Power Control or Voltage Oriented Control and Hysteresis Control. The main aim of this paper is to compare and establish the merits and demerits of each technique in various aspects mainly regarding switching frequency hence switching loss, computation and transient state behavior. Each control method is studied in detail and simulated using Matlab/Simulink in order to make the comparison.

Use of non-conventional energy resources these days has led to think about utilizing the power electronic interfaces to integrate them with the conventional power sources. Around the world, conventional power systems are facing problems with gradual depletion of fossil fuel resources and environmental pollution. These problems have led to a new trend of generating power locally at distribution voltage level by using non-conventional sources and their integration into the utility distribution network. Due to varying nature of the power system requirements, we need to come up with solutions for future. In this paper, we would like to do a study on the implementation of a photovoltaic generation. We will discuss some methods of implementation, and to develop a simulation model and record some results with faults occurring in the system.

Nowadays chronic diseases are the leading cause of deaths in India. These diseases which include various ailments in the form of diabetes, stroke, cardiovascular diseases, mental health illness, cancers, and chronic lung diseases. Chronic diseases are the biggest challenge for India and these diseases are the main cause of hospitalization for elder people. People who have suffered from chronic diseases are needed to repeatedly monitor the vital signs periodically. The number of nurses in hospital is relative low compared to the number of patients in hospital, there may be a chance to miss to monitor any patient vital signs which may affect patient health. In this paper, real time monitoring vital signs of a patient is developed using wearable sensors. Without nurse help, patient know the vital signs from the sensors and the system stored the sensor value in the form of text document. By using data mining approaches, the system is trained for vital sign data. Patients give their text document to the system which in turn they know their health status without any nurse help. This system enables high risk patients to be timely checked and enhance the quality of a life of patients.

The sequence of operations for face recognition comprises of the pre-processing techniques, feature extraction, selection and classification for precise identification and substantiation of subject images. Initially, the face images are processed by Gaussian of Laplacian blurring with Median and Weiner filters for the removal of undesirable noise and frequencies, a unique approach in advancing the preprocessing techniques. The pre-processed images are applied to feature extraction transformations, namely, the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) coupled with Slope-form Triangular Discrete Cosine Transform (STDCT) to generate critical essential features from the images. Primarily the feature vector space is searched for optimal selection of feature subset utilizing the Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) search algorithm based on mutual behavior of bird flocking or fish schooling. Evaluation of the subset by the Euclidean Classifier produces reliable face recognition rate. The system dependability is attained by processing with standard databases like, the Color Facial Recognition Technology (FERET), Olivetti Research Laboratory (ORL) and Japanese Female Facial Expression (JAFFE). Induction of MATLAB to analyze the imaging methodologies with standard databases, demonstrates computation of slope of the hypotenuse of a right triangle in STDCT for reduced feature extraction. This novel technology transcends other systems by generating enhanced face recognition rate with optimum selected features to achieve on execution with multiple iterations, establishing propriety and reliability of the proposed system during the process of validation.
