Introduction: Determination of shear bond strength is important because artificial teeth being detached from their base is frequent. 15% mangosteen rind extract can be used as an alternative denture cleanser because it effectively reduces the number of Candida albicans. This study was conducted to analyze the effect of acrylic denture immersion in 15% mangosteen rind extract (Garcinia mangostana Linn.) and 0.2% chlorhexidine solution on the shear bond strength of artificial teeth to base for 1 year. Methods: This study was an experimental laboratory study. The samples used were mandibular first molar acrylic artificial teeth placed in a cylindrical heat-polymerized denture base resin with a diameter of 18 mm and height of 20 mm; the artificial teeth was placed in a depth of 3 mm buccally. The number of samples used were 30, divided into three immersion groups, 10 each. The shear bond strength value was obtained using the Universal Testing Machine. The results of the data were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA test. Results: The one-way ANOVA test results showed a significant effect (p<0.05) of acrylic denture immersion in 15% mangosteen rind extract and 0.2% chlorhexidine solution on shear bond strength for 1 year. Conclusion: After immersion in 15% mangosteen rind extract, the shear bond strength was higher than the value after immersion in 0.2% chlorhexidine solution; these results indicated that 15% mangosteen rind extract was better than 0.2% chlorhexidine in terms of shear bond strength. Therefore supporting the use of 15% mangosteen rind extract as an alternative denture cleanser.

Introduction: Cases of cleft palate, enlarged adenoid, Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS), and skeletal craniofacial malocclusion malocclusion often accompanied by soft palate dysfunction. The soft palate length in men is significantly higher than women. The aim of this study is to determine the differences of soft palate length, nasopharyngeal depth, and Need’s ratio in class I, II, and III skeletal malocclusion and its differences between men and women. Methods: This research was analytic observational with cross-sectional method using lateral cephalograms of patients aged between 16 to 40 years old. The samples in lateral cephalogram were obtained and classified through measurement based on Steiner method. The calculation of soft palate length, nasopharyngeal depth and Need’s rati o were determined using Corel-Draw X8 software. Result: The most common type of soft palate was leaf shaped type. Data analysis using ANOVA test showed there was no significant differences in the length of soft palate (p=0,054), the depth of nasopharynx (p=0,617), and the Need’s ratio (p=0,229) between class I, II, and III skeletal malocclusion. The result of independent T-test showed there was a significant difference in the length of soft palate between men and women (p=0,002). However, there was no significant difference in nasopharyngeal depth (p=0,179) and Need’s ratio (p=0,130) between men and women. Conclusion: Soft palate l ength, nasopharyngeal depth, and Need’s ratio had no significant difference in class I, II and III skeletal malocclusion, but there was a significant difference in soft palate length between men and women.

Introduction: Acrylic artificial teeth are based on acrylic resin, have a great importance to aesthetic function and must always be kept clean . 15% mangosteen peel extract and 0.2% chlorhexidine can be used as a denture cleaning agent. Aim This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of immersion acrylic artificial teeth in 15% mangosteen peel extract and 0.2% chlorhexidine for 1 year and 2 years on color stability. Methods: This type of research is an laboratory experimental. The samples used was an acrylic artificial tooth implanted on an acrylic denture base measuring 20x20x6 mm. The total samples used based on Federer’s formula were 30 samples for each test divided into three groups that is, 15% mangosteen peel extract, 0.2% chlorhexidine and distilled water. Color stability testing using a CS-10 colorimeter. The effect of immersion between groups was analyzed using the Kruskal Wallis test and one way ANOVA followed by the Mann Whitney and Least Significant Different (LSD) tests, and the effect of immersion time was analyzed using an independent T test. Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference in the effect of immersion on acrylic artificial teeth in each group for 1 year and 2 years on color stability (p<0.05) and the results of independent t-test showed that there was a significant effect of immersion time on acrylic artificial teeth between 1 year and 2 years in each group on color stability (p<0.05). Conclusion: The color stability of acrylic artificial teeth immersed for 1 year and 2 years in the 15% mangosteen peel extract group was better than the 0.2% chlorhexidine group.
