Introduction : Tooth extraction is one of the common procedures in dentistry that dentists often perform. Tooth extraction can cause complications, one of which is bleeding. The gambier plant is a native Indonesian plant whose utilization is still rare and has the potential to accelerate blood clotting. Gambier plants contain catechins, a group of flavonoids that can maintain the permeability of blood vessels. This study aimed to analyze the potential of gambir catechins as agents to accelerate blood clotting after tooth extraction. Methods : This research was a quasi-experimental study with a sample of 16 people. Before being tested with blood, gambier catechins were made from gambier leaves and extracted using the maceration method. The test was carried out using human blood with blood types A, B, AB, and O with five treatments each, namely positive control with tranexamic acid, negative control without treatment, gambir catechin extract with a concentration of 25, 35, and 45%. Result : The data that has been obtained is normally distributed and shows that the results of the one-way test ANOVA treatment of gambir leaf catechin extract for each blood group showed results significant (p=0.0005). The results of the post hoc test showed that there were differences in the significance value for each treatment group for each blood group. Conclusion : Catechin extract from gambir leaves can accelerate the process of blood clotting, especially with a concentration of 45%. Hence, it has the potential as an agent to accelerate clotting after tooth extraction.

Introduction: The prevalence of traumatic ulcers in Indonesia is high (96,6%). Astaxanthin, derived from the green microalgae Haematococcus Pluvialis, is one of the alternative treatments for ulcer healing due to its potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect. This study aimed to analyze astaxanthin’s effectiveness on the difference in the diameter of the ulcer on day 1 and day 3 in a traumatic ulcer model. Methods: Samples of 30 Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups which were treated with traumatic ulcers and then treated for 3 days according to their respective groups: K-(control group given gel base); K+ (control group given hyaluronic acid); P1 (application of 0.1% astaxanthin); P2 (application of 0.5% astaxanthin); P3 (application of 1% astaxanthin). The data results were then carried out with one way ANOVA test, and the Post Hoc LSD test proceeded with p=0,05. Results: The statistical parametric test using One Way ANOVA showed a significant difference (p<0,05) in the diameter ulcer on day 1 and day 3. Post Hoc LSD test showed a significant difference (p<0,05) between K-(5,300 ± 2,832) compare to K+ (2,297 ± 1,045), P1(1,740 ± 1,168), P2(1,993 ± 0,738), and P3 (2,448 ± 1,320). Conclusions: There is an effect of giving astaxanthin gel in reducing the difference in the diameter of the ulcer on day 1 and day 3 on the healing process of traumatic ulcer.

Introduction: COVID-19 is a new type of disease that has never been previously discovered and identified in humans. The occurrence of transmission in dental practice is due to several factors where the general dentist and specialist profession is one of the professions that are very susceptible to cross- infection transmission in infectious diseases caused by contact with fluids in the body such as saliva or blood. Therefore good knowledge needed in the COVID-19 infection control. This study aimed to find the differences in the knowledge between general dental practitioners and dental specialists in controlling COVID-19 infection. Methods: This was an analytical observational research with a cross-sectional design. The total sample was 130 dentists, consisted of 80 general dental practitioners and 50 dental specialists. The sampling technique used quota sampling. Instrument in this research used an online questionnaire via google forms platform to know the characteristics of the sample and the level of knowledge regarding the control of COVID-19. The instrument had been tested for its validity and reliability. The statistical tests used to find the difference in the knowledge between general dental practitioners and dental specialists in controlling COVID-19 infection were the Mann-Whitney test and continued with logistic regression test to determine the effect of characteristics on the level of knowledge. Results: Mann-Whitney Test showed differences in the knowledge of general dental practitioners and dental specialists in controlling COVID-19 infection (p=0,018). Conclusion: There are differences in the knowledge of general dental practitioners and dental specialists in COVID-19. In addition, the profession’s characteristics affect knowledge level of COVID-19 control.
