A novel method to select optimal feedback compensation networks for DC-DC switching converters is presented in this paper. This method provides a support to robust design, allowing the optimal solution choice among different projects that fulfil given constraints. The considered case of study concerns the optimization of the feedback control circuit of a voltage-mode regulated DC-DC converter. Given control loop performance constraints and the circuit parameters commercial values and tolerances, six different approaches are adopted to select a set of optimal feasible design solutions. Indeed, they have been found by means of a numerical method based on Monte-Carlo technique. Interval arithmetic is used to make computations with tolerances. The results presented in this paper highlight that, given a set of design constraints, the best projects are identified by means of a comparative evaluation of the robustness of the different possible design solution with respect to parameters tolerance.

This paper designs and implements a financial invoice recognition system based on the features of the Chinese financial invoice. By using the linear whole block moving method in each vertical segment, a new fast algorithm is put forth to detect and rectify the slant image. To distinguish the different form types (the foundation necessary for locating the form fields, filtering the form lines, etc.), several representative form features are discussed and an invoice-type features library is built by using a semi-automatic machine study method. On the basis of the recognized invoice type, real invoice form is re-oriented against the corresponding blank form according to the invoice type feature, solving the problem of adhesion of characters and form lines, as well as the problem of characters segmentation and recognition. Based on the financial Chinese invoice image feature, a mutual rectification mechanism founded on the recognition results of financial Chinese characters and Arabic numerals is put forward to raise the recognition rate. Finally, the experimental results and conclusions are presented.

This paper presents the study of conditioning power systems applied to stand-alone systems, including maximum power point trackers (MPPT's), simulated and evaluated using simulating tool Simulink®. It is supposed to be integrated on a photovoltaic stand-alone system. Since space and weight are very limited in the environment of a moving vehicle it is very important to maximize the efficiency of its power source: the array of photovoltaics panels.

The mobile host's mobility profile, in a personal communication network (PCN) environment, is modeled. It is argued that, for a majority of mobile hosts (MHs) for most of the time, the movement profile repeats on a day-to-day basis. The next movement strongly depends on the present location and the time of the day. In this paper, such a pattern for every individual MHs is learned. The model is not static and re-learning is initiated as the behavior of the mobile host changes. Thus the model assumes that the past patterns will repeat in future and a past causal relationship (i.e., next state depends on previous state) continue into the future. A copy of the model is uploaded at the home location register (HLR). This facilitates the system to predict to a high degree of accuracy the location of a MH. During the course of learning, as the model gets perfected, the frequency of updates decreases as well as the probability of success in paging improves. The model is continuously verified locally and re-learning is initiated when a shift in mobility pattern is detected. The validity of the proposed model was verified through simulations.

The authors describe an intelligent system for controlling the electrical tuning process during the manufacturing of televisions. The electrical tuning problem consists in controlling the imaging system of the television to meet production quality requirements. Traditionally, this tuning process has been performed by human operators, by manually adjusting the imaging system in the television. In their approach, they use fuzzy logic to automate the tuning process for the televisions. They use a fuzzy system for controlling the voltage, current, and the time during the tuning process, so that the best possible quality of image is achieved. They have implemented this intelligent system for control in the MATLAB programming language with good simulation results.

The paper presents the study and the design of air embedded electronic control system that allows diesel engine driven stand-alone synchronous generators to operate at variable (optimum) speed. A new control strategy has been developed, based on passivity theory for the PWM inverter control and a fuzzy, logic fuel admission control system, to overcome the nonlinearity introduced into the system by the diesel engine. In order to use the passivity theory approach, the system was described in Euler-Lagrange form, such systems representing the outcome of the powerful variational modelling method. MATLAB software was used for the complete power and control system design and simulation and a novel approach was adopted for the FPGA implementation of the digital controller. The method is based on using Handel-C, an innovative language for implementing algorithms in hardware, architectural design space exploration and hardware/software co-design. The new PWM passivity based controller was designed, successfully simulated and is currently being implemented in a Virtex Xilinx FPGA. Experimental tests are being carried out to validate the behaviour of the controller. The main achievements of the new control system relate to the efficient maintenance of the output voltage at the desired magnitude and frequency independent of the rotational speed of the generator, under variable loading conditions, thus allowing variable (optimum) speed operation of the diesel engine.

For the PROFIBUS, a standardized and wellknown fieldbus; system, it is attractive to use wireless media. A natural approach in creating such a system is to re-use as much existing technology as possible. In the area of wireless local area networks (WLANs) clearly the IEEE 802.11 standard is the leading technology. Hence, the question comes up, how this technology can be used in the creation of a wireless PROFIBUS. The PROFIBUS is used for its abilities in matching realtime requirements even under harsh environmental conditions. On the other hand, wireless links are error-prone and show time-variable behavior. Hence, an important question is, how good the so-called realtime performance, a set of measures taking reliability and timeliness into account, of the PROFIBUS protocol over wireless links is. This paper presents corresponding results and compares them with those of a new, polling-based class of protocols, called adaptive intervals. It shows up, that the adaptive intervals protocols achieve up to an order of magnitude better realtime performance than the PROFIBUS protocol. We conclude from this that it is a promising approach to replace the existing PROFIBUS MAC protocol by another protocol for creation of a wireless PROFIBUS.
