The sudden closure of schools in response to the COVID-19 pandemic prompted education authorities to quickly explore new teaching and learning methods. This disruption to traditional classroom settings led to the implementation of innovative strategies that assist educators and students in developing abstract thinking skills. In the wake of the ongoing impact of the pandemic on education, one crucial innovative approach that educators should embrace is generative Artificial Intelligence (AI). Generative AI represents a significant transformation in the education sector, offering human-like content tailored to meet the individual needs of students, educators, and institutions. While the integration of generative AI post-pandemic is inevitable, this chapter highlights the myriad opportunities it presents for the education industry, particularly in terms of the strategies it provides for colleges and universities to recruit and engage diverse student populations through personalized instruction and equal access to opportunities. In the evolving landscape of post-pandemic education, technology that supports collaboration, critical thinking, and real-world educational connections is no longer considered a futuristic concept. While educational practices continue to evolve, the substantial entry of generative artificial intelligence into education is both distinct and unavoidable. With technological advancements come questions of digital equity and effective implementation. This chapter underscores how generative artificial intelligence can bridge these gaps by creating customized learning experiences that benefit educators and enhance access to knowledge. The emergence of generative artificial intelligence as a technological support tool is poised to bring about significant changes in education. Generative AI has the potential to drive the necessary shift towards personalized instruction and meaningful student interactions. This chapter seeks to provide a comprehensive overview of the importance of exploring generative AI strategies as the education sector grapples with the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. It presents insights into current and future opportunities offered by generative artificial intelligence to support innovative teaching practices, foster equitable growth, and facilitate the transition to educational systems on a global scale.

Following the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010, universities were prompted and advised to consider a policy-level change. In particular, universities had to consider whether or not to draft and adopt an ACA-compliant health insurance plan for students. Given that universities were not required to offer a student health insurance plan, students at a Midwestern university in 2011 developed a social action community organization to apply pressure on university administrators to ensure the development and adoption of an ACA-compliant student health insurance plan. The processes and strategies employed by this successful student community organization are discussed in the present case study. Recommendations for future student-led community organization projects on college campuses are provided.

One of the most important topics regarding law enforcement is officer fitness, or the larger concern, a lack thereof. Lack of fitness can be correlated to instances of inappropriate use of force and the public outcry of police brutality. Physical conditioning can directly assist an officer in achieving their main objective of every shift which is to go home healthy and safe. Increased fitness increases confidence and provides officers with a greater window of opportunity to de-escalate, showing the public that less drastic measures may be taken in handling stressful confrontations. Failure to set or maintain standards of fitness has in some cases, opened the door to civil litigation such as in Parker v District of Columbia where the proceedings showed that the District of Columbia was deliberately indifferent to physical standards resulting in significant financial compensation. Agencies should consider that an officer’s shift and work environment may indirectly lead to a lack of attention to health and fitness. A “complacency kills” approach may be able to outline the dangers of these lapses in standards but if a pathway cannot be created for these officers, then it may only reinforce the negative thought that they may not go home.

The folk songs of the Huizhou region in Guangdong Province, China, are richly diverse and embody the area's profound cultural heritage. This study examines three distinct regional folk songs: the Huiyang Jiege, Ruhu Fishing Song, and Huidong Fishermen's Song, aiming to delineate their musical styles and cultural expressions and how they mirror the local culture. Utilizing both questionnaire surveys and in-depth interviews, this research engages with 326 residents and 16 cultural experts from various counties within Huizhou City. The study methodically evaluates the artistic features of these folk songs—including melody, theme, and lyrics—and investigates their transmission in contemporary times. The findings reveal that while these songs stem from a common cultural background, they exhibit distinct regional traits in their expression and social roles. For instance, the Huiyang Jiege is noted for its simple structure, whereas the Ruhu Fishing Song and Huidong Fishermen's Songs focus more on emotional expression and social interaction. The study advocates for enhanced local government support and collaborative research initiatives with universities. Additionally, it suggests leveraging modern media technologies to promote and preserve these folk songs as vital cultural assets. By thoroughly analyzing these locally distinctive folk songs, this research contributes to the academic field of ethnomusicology and offers valuable insights into the preservation and perpetuation of regional culture.

This research examines the factors that influence health-related stereotypes against immigrants, with a focus on how human capital, conservative ideology, and economic anxiety impact these perceptions across different immigrant groups in the United States. The study uses Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression analysis of data from the 2020 Collaborative Multi-racial Post-Election Survey to assess attitudes towards all immigrants, as well as specifically Mexican and Chinese immigrants. Objective: Health stereotypes often depict immigrants as carriers of diseases and burdens on society, which affect public opinion and policy. This study aims to analyze the roles of human capital, political ideology, and economic conditions in shaping these stereotypes. Method: Using OLS regression, the analysis explores the association between stereotyping and various predictors, including conservative ideology (measured objectively and subjectively), human capital, and economic anxiety. Disaggregating the data by immigrant group allows for nuanced insights into the interplay of these factors. Results: The results reveal moderate levels of stereotyping across all groups, with variations by immigrant origin. Objective measures of conservative ideology show a strong correlation with increased stereotyping, particularly against Mexican immigrants. Higher human capital is associated with reduced stereotyping, while economic anxiety consistently exacerbates negative stereotypes across all groups. Furthermore, Republican affiliation and racial identity are correlated with heightened stereotyping, especially against Chinese immigrants. Discussion: The findings highlight the complexity of the factors contributing to health-related stereotypes and emphasize the importance of addressing educational and economic elements to mitigate these biases. Tailored interventions that take into account the distinct dynamics of each immigrant group are crucial for reducing stereotypes and improving integration and health outcomes.

This paper compares the first movements of Beethoven's and Mozart's piano concertos in C minor, exploring the similarities and differences between these two seminal works. By examining various aspects, including the key, composition background, form, motifs, harmony, orchestral arrangements, dialogue between instruments, and piano writing, the study reveals Mozart's profound influence on Beethoven while highlighting the latter's unique innovations. The analysis delves into the significance of the C minor key for both composers, their use of the double exposition form, and the structural design of the movements. The study also investigates the composers' employment of similar motifs and materials, demonstrating how they maintained unity throughout their respective works by deriving most elements from the first exposition. Furthermore, the paper examines the intricate dialogue between the piano and the orchestra, showcasing how both composers utilized the orchestra for harmonic support, melodic enhancement, and imitative counterpoint. Particular attention is given to the way Beethoven paid homage to Mozart through his treatment of the cadenza and the coda. The comparison of piano writing reveals similarities in texture and general structure, with both composers employing arpeggios, scales, and trills as central themes, contrasted with lyrical sub-themes. However, the study also highlights Beethoven's more dramatic and extended treatment of the contrasting sections. Through this comprehensive analysis, the paper illuminates the profound influence of Mozart on Beethoven's compositional style while also showcasing the latter's innovative approach, which helped usher in a new era of musical expression at the dawn of the Romantic period.

The case study of gender roles in Georgian society offers valuable insights into the complexities of societal transformation. The interplay between tradition and modernity reflects the dynamic nature of cultural evolution and the ongoing struggle for gender equality. Understanding the dynamics of gender roles in Georgia enhances cultural sensitivity. It acknowledges that gender roles are not universal and are deeply influenced by cultural practices, allowing for a more nuanced and context-specific approach to gender studies. Non-narrative content analysis of respondents’ interviews provides empirical grounding for theories and concepts related to gender roles. This empirical foundation strengthens the validity and reliability of the study's findings. The study can serve as a valuable reference for comparative analyses with other cultural contexts. By highlighting the unique features of gender dynamics in Georgia, it allows for cross-cultural comparisons that enrich our understanding of the diversity of gender experiences globally. The study contributes to the theoretical frameworks of cultural anthropology, and gender studies. It advances our understanding of how these fields can intersect and mutually inform each other, paving the way for further theoretical development. Insights gained from the research can inform practical interventions and policies aimed at challenging and reshaping gender norms in Georgia. By identifying specific linguistic and cultural mechanisms, the study offers tangible entry points for interventions promoting gender equity. The study adopts qualitative methodology to provide a comprehensive understanding of the lived experiences that contribute to the construction and reinforcement of gender roles in Georgia. In the cultural context of Georgia, we hypothesize that individuals' lived experiences and expressions of gender will reflect a negotiation between cultural expectations and evolving societal dynamics, contributing to a complex and dynamic understanding of gender roles in Georgia.

Given the key constitutional role of electors in the final selection of the U.S. President one might expect the appointed electors to act in the electoral spotlight. But that has seldom been the case, although their meeting to cast their ballot in recent years is often broadcast or videoed and highlighted on their day of action while numbers of the electors do interviews with their local media. Who are the presidential electors? This research addresses this question focusing on the electors and the process of their selection from the vantage point of the 2020 election. It offers reflection on the role electors play in the presidential electoral process in contemporary times from a democratic perspective, focusing on questions of why we might care about who they are, what their experiences are like, and their reflections on that experience. To address the central questions of this essay, that is, who contemporary electors are, how they are selected and how do they perform their electoral job and what has been their assessment of their duties, I have collected both quantitative and qualitative data about the 2020 electoral college members across the states. Quantitative data have been collected on various demographic characteristics of the electors. From the qualitative perspective, I have undertaken interviews with a sample of individual electors and supplemented those interviews with information from media reports on and interviews with individual electors about themselves and their experiences. Who they are, how they function relative to the vision of the founding fathers and what might be the implications for the role of the Electoral College in the democratic process of electing the US president? These are the major questions of this research project. It also explores the 2020 election issue of “fake electors.”

The advent of CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing technology has sparked a complex discourse on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). While it could potentially eradicate genetic disorders affecting marginalized groups, concerns arise regarding ethical implications, eugenics, exacerbating biases, and socioeconomic divides. One salient aspect of this discourse pertains to the ethical considerations surrounding using CRISPR-Cas9 for germline editing, which could theoretically eradicate genetic disorders disproportionately affecting specific populations. Proponents argue it could foster inclusivity through personalized therapies for underrepresented populations, though met with skepticism. This revolutionary tool necessitates critically examining its ethical, socioeconomic, and governance ramifications.

While it could potentially eradicate genetic disorders affecting marginalized groups, concerns arise regarding ethical implications, eugenics, exacerbating biases, and socioeconomic divides. One salient aspect of this discourse pertains to the ethical considerations surrounding using CRISPR-Cas9 for germline editing, which could theoretically eradicate genetic disorders disproportionately affecting specific populations. Proponents argue it could foster inclusivity through personalized therapies for underrepresented populations, though met with skepticism. This revolutionary tool necessitates critically examining its ethical, socioeconomic, and governance ramifications.","PeriodicalId":339909,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Arts, Humanities & Social Science","volume":"99 S4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140707265","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
