This research intends to identify the character education value that contained in the novel “A Thousand Splendid Suns”. This research used qualitative descriptive method. The sources of data were taken from the novel A Thousand Splendid Sunby Khaled Hosseni and other documents as journals, book, or articles related to the research. From the analysis of the novel A Thousand Splendid Sunthere is religious value depicted form the figure of Mullah Faizullah through his attitude in reminding Mariam to believe in God’s Plan under any circumstances, because the Koran always speak the truth. Followed by the nationalism value was illustrated from a teacher figure named Shanzai which told the students that the unity of a nation is a priority in maintaining peace of a country. Then followed by the value of integrity depicted by the village leader named Habib Khan that shows responsibilities of a good leader will not put his or her personal interests first. Followed by the independent value seen in Tariq struggle in continuing his life despite his imperfect conditions, Tariq remains self-sustaining and does not depend on others. And followed by the value of mutual cooperation depicted from the figure Fariba through her polite and friendly attitude with the people she met. It can be concluded that the novel “A Thousand Splendid Suns “ reflect all of the values of character education.Keywords: Character Education, Novel, Values

The purpose of the writing is to find out the effect in watching romantic movie to the children under age growing and the way to handle the problem which categorized dangerous in case the children mingle tightly with any types of gadgets and get the computer lesson from school. This process uses qualitative approach. The data is taken based on the data from books, article or information from newspaper that uses six steps. There are organizing and preparing, reading, coding, describing, advancing and evaluating. The meaning of learning theoretically and practically is expected that the result of the learning can give contribution to special department such as ICPD (Indonesian children protection department) or in Indonesian it is called KPAI. Beside that, it is expected that the result can help the reader or learner in learning the way in handling problems related to the children under age growing. In this part, it is determined not to reveal the flaws or talk about people’s mistakes but it tends to the handling process of children under age in modern area.Keywords : Cartoon Movie, Romantic, Children Under Age, Soul Growing, Effect

This study investigated the affect of home environment towards students’ English learning achievement at one university in North Sulawesi. Three variables were included parents’ education background, parents’ occupation, and parents’ income. The population was the students from second semester who enrolled in General English II. The instruments were used in data collections. They were information about parents’ socioeconomic status, English final grade of the students, and information about the family condition. The results showed that negative correlation, only mothers’ occupation had positive correlation towards students’ English learning achievement. These findings were extensively discussed and appropriate recommendations were made.Keywords: Home Environment, Learning Achievement, Socioeconomic status, English Final Grade

The purpose of this study is to reveal about womens’ image in England in 19th century especially the existance of women that lived during Austen’s era at the time. In analyzing this study the writer used qualitative research design which is the data collected in form of words rather than numbers. The data collected in this research are from two sources; primary and secondary. The primary source is from the novel itself and the secondary sources are from internet, and some other books. The datas are analyzed by using mimetic approach. The result of the study shows that fearness, dissapointment, unhappiness, and even arrogance are parts of life of some women at that time. They have no choice to choose a better life. England adopted Primogeniture as a basic of inherit the wealth to the children. This one is a reason why woman in society is placed lower rather than man. Man hold the authorithy in many aspects such as social, politics, and economic. However, girls were not gaining any noticeably easier access to legal rights or professional opportunities at this time. There was an over-riding assumption that men and women were different in natural capabilities. Consequently, both men and women ought to accept distinct social roles, marked out along gender lines, where women were denied equality of opportunity in areas such as education, business and action. Girls were praised for being submissive, modest, pure and domesticated. The qualities of being independently-minded, studious or talented were seldom regarded as feminine attractions. Sampai saat ini UIN Walisongo Semarang tidak memiliki sebuah laman berbasis Moodle yaitu sebuah aplikasi hybrid online course yang diperuntukkan bagi mahasiswa dan dosen. Oleh karena itu, sebuah laman yang beralamatkan http://daviqr.com berbasis model Moodle diciptakan dan dikembangkan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dengan desain Research and Development. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini adalah 90 mahasiswa Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris semester 6, Fakultas Ilmu Tarbiyah dan Keguruan, IAIN Walisongo Semarang yang mengambil mata kuliah Discourse Analysis pada tahun akademik 2015/2016. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berupa kuesioner dengan model open-ended and closedended questions. Merujuk pada hasil penelitian sebelumnya, siswa mempunyai ketertarikan tinggi pada forum-forum diskusi online, kuis berbasis daring, dan materi ajar berbasis daring. Mahasiswa berpendapat bahwa konsep modul materi yang terdiri atas materi ajar dan modul forum dapat diimplementasikan untuk pengajaran lainnya. Mereka berpendapat bahwa dosen tidak hanya mengajar dan memberikan materi di ruang kelas, tetapi mereka dapat memberikan kebebasan pada mahasiswa untuk belajar dari sumber materi online. Hal ini dapat membuat hubungan dosen dan siswa menjadi lebih kuat dan dekat. Kata Kunci: Moodle-based websites, hybrid online courses, discourse analysis, discussion forum, quiz, reading materials A. Background of the Study So far UIN Walisongo Semarang has not been ready yet for a Moodle-based website for students and lecturers. Hence, http://daviqr.com/ was created and installed with Moodle 3.0. There are some main reasons why most students agree that the blended learning course is an interesting course and why they prefer the hybrid online course or the combination between online and traditional classroom. First, the course outline and objectives were made clearly. Second, they learned a lot from this hybrid course. Third, the reading materials were clear and informative. Fourth, the METATHESIS, Vol. 1, No. 1, April 2017 p-ISSN: 2580-2712 e-ISSN: 2580-2720 Journal of English Language, Literature, and Teaching 63 level of this hybrid course is just right. Fifth, the total study load of this hybrid course is in proportion to the number of semester credits is just right. Sixth, the amount of the interaction with other students is a little better. Seventh, the quality of their interaction with other students is a little better. Eighth, the amount of their interaction with the instructor is a little better. Ninth, the quality of their interaction with the instructor is a little better and about the same. Tenth, compared to a faceto-face (traditional) class of equal credits, the workload of this online course is somewhat more (Daviq Rizal, 2015).
