The communication process in a song lyrics’ story involves a speaker and a speech partner. Song lyrics are essential to reflect the message of a song. Therefore, the researcher sought to know the meaning, purpose, and context of speech in the song lyrics in the extended play (EP) entitled “Miracles in December” by EXO that consists of five songs: “Miracles in December”, “Christmas Day”, “The Star”, “My Turn to Cry”, and “The First Snow”. The researcher chose the “Miracles in December” EP as an object because this EP has elements of interesting speech acts to study in pragmatics. In this study, researchers use a theoretical approach which will focus on discussing illocutionary speech acts from Searle's theory. The method in this research is descriptive qualitative with the use of listening and note-taking techniques. The results of this study prove that in the “Miracles in December” EP there are 156 data of illocutionary speech acts consisting of 100 data of assertive, 29 data of directive, 15 data of expressive, and 12 data of declarative.

The aim of this study is to describe the Korean and Indonesian honorifics and compare the honorifics of the two languages. This research is a qualitative research using a contrastive analysis method. Data in the Korean language is collected from the author's private messages with Korean, and data in Indonesian is collected from examples in the referenced literature and substituted with words from the same word class. Based on the analysis that has been carried out, Korean and Indonesian honorifics are both grammatically and lexically realized. However, the grammatical elements that make up Korean honorifics are not limited to one type of sentence, while in Indonesian it is only used in imperative sentences. Vocabularies that contain honorific meanings in Korean are found in adjectives, verbs, and personal pronouns, while in Indonesian mostly are found in personal pronouns and only a few in words from other word classes. From the point of view of Korean honorifics, Indonesian honorifics can be classified into hearer honorifics. In addition, the Indonesian language has subject honorifics, either directly or indirectly, which are lexically realized.

Intercultural Contact (Hereafter IC) is when two or more people from different cultural backgrounds carry out socio-economic or political exchanges in one contact zone. Intercultural contact is possible to appear everywhere and by one. Intercultural contact concerning immigrants, either as students or workers abroad. This study aims to investigate the intercultural contact of Indonesian workers, focusing on trainees (Jjisshusei) in Japan. International workers face cross-cultural communication with co-workers or domestic workers. The trainees as respondents in this study are sent to Japan as a form of on-the-job training in collaboration between the Indonesian government and the Japanese. The trainees were exposed to the Japanese language, culture, society, and economy. Therefore, their cultural competence is essential. This study examines intercultural communication in the trainee’s community, mainly focusing on how intercultural contact occurs between trainees and Japanese residents. The result showed that apart from the trainees’ understanding of the importance of learning Japanese, they still lack experience in communicating with Japanese locals besides their co-workers. This study contributes to second language learning in intercultural understanding and L2 learners’ identity.

This study tries to identify the use of new word (neologisms) during the COVID-19 pandemic era in Indonesian and Korean online newspapers with a corpus linguistic approach. The corpus data collected from online newspaper articles with the theme of COVID-19, both in Korean and Indonesian online newspapers. A total of 2,515,019 words scale of corpus data were used in the study collected from September 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021. Based on the analysis, it was found that in both Indonesian and Korean, neologisms related to the COVID-19 pandemic can be categorized into 4 categories, namely 1) health registers, 2) government policy registers, 3) people's habits, and 4) other categories. The health register occupies the first position with the highest frequency of neologisms both in the Indonesian language, by placing words that refer to COVID-19, namely Covid-19 (Indonesian) and 코로나 19 (khorona ilgu / Korean language) as the most used neologisms. Meanwhile, there are differences in the use of neologisms in the categories of government policies, people's habits, and others. The differences are correlated with the differences in government policies in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and the conditions of the society of both countries.

Women’s Image as Presented in Vitamin Drink’s Commercials: Semiotics Analysis on YOU C-1000 and Hemaviton C1000 维生素饮料广告中的女性形象:YOU C-1000和Hemaviton C1000的符号学分析

Several studies have identified women's image in beverage advertisements, but there has been not much research into the women’s image presented in vitamin drink commercials along with their slogans. This study focuses on an analysis of verbal and non-verbal signs of 2 vitamin drink commercials, namely YOU C1000 and Hemaviton C1000, from YouTube. Qualitative content analysis based on Peirce’s (1940) semiotics theory was used to analyse the verbal and non-verbal signs presented in the commercials, while the image of women proposed by Hung & Li (2006) was used to identify women’s image in the commercials. The findings suggest that in general, the commercials have tried to break the common traditional stereotypes of women’s image, even though some parts were still a bit stereotypical. The most common women’s image shown in the video is ‘a strong woman’. Moreover, the slogans of YOU C1000 and Hemaviton C1000 are trying to show that women can also do outdoor activities. The finding indicates that there is an attempt to change the way of presenting women in today’s advertisements.

This research is a pragmatic research with the discussion of Korean speech acts. The object of this research is the speech of children aged 14 years in the video "Are You a Rich Kid?" Kids Answer from the ODG YouTube channel. This research aims to identify locutionary speech acts uttered by speakers and to determine the purpose of those utterances. In the video there is an interview between staff and children with the topic about the terms “Golden Spoon” and “Dirty Spoon”. The term is used to indicate a person's social class in society. This research uses a qualitative-descriptive method. In data collection, listening and taking notes were used as research techniques. The theory used as the basis of this research is Austin's speech act theory. Also, based on Anggraini's opinion, who divides locutionary speech acts into three, namely: (1) statement (declarative), (2) question (interrogative), and (3) command (imperative). This research focuses on declarative locutionary speech acts. From the results of the study, there were 16 declarative locutionary speech acts uttered by children aged 14 years. They already know and understand those terms and then express their opinion. The speakers also clearly state their social class in society.

There is a phenomenon of semantic changes in language, not to mention in Japanese slang words (wakamono kotoba), which mostly are the narrowing and generalization of meaning.
