This exploratory work aims to show how political and electoral violence manifested themselves during Mexico’s 2018 elections and casts light on their consequences. With a data base designed to delve into the new forms of electoral and political violence that surged from political competition, polarization among conflicting groups, and criminal organizations’ interventions in Mexico’s electoral processes, this article takes on a systematic literature review. Among its hypotheses, this work proposes that electoral competition generates political violence, while probing into its causes. This work concludes, among other findings, that democratization has not served as a buffer to violence.

This article analyzes gender related issues posed by three presidential candidates nominated by partisan coalitions in the 2018 elections. The coalition’s electoral platforms were reviewed and, drawing from journalistic information, a data base was constructed in which all of Lopez Obrador’s, Meade’s and Anaya’s events during their campaigns were registered. The main conclusion is that, in their agendas, the topics of gender from a distributive approach that reinforces traditional roles for women are predominant. In a parallel way, various feminist and lgbt+ collectives presented agendas for equality, which have been as a consequence represented by alternative communities.

The objective of this article is to analyze the political coalitions formed during the 2018 elections in Mexico and their effect on the proselytizing party modalities, as well as on citizens’ perception of political parties and campaigns. For such an analysis an investigation based on ethnographic studies made from different municipalities in Mexico City was designed. It shows that coalitions did not have the electoral effect the coalition parties’ leaders intended, due in part to candidates’ apprehension of vote dispersal as well as citizen’s reluctance to bear with coalitions integrated by parties they considered opposing or that they repudiated.
