Power Tapping from HVDC Link: Utilization of Tap Point Information and Voltage Margin to Ascertain Proximity to Voltage Collapse 高压直流线路的分接:利用分接点信息和电压余量来确定是否接近电压崩溃

Long distance point-to-point HVDC link which traverse rural dwelling places can be utilized for tapping power to feed those areas. However, the extent of power tapped if not curtailed can lead to voltage collapse of the system. In this paper, analysis of Voltage stability index (VSI) to ascertain the nearness of HVDC link to voltage collapse is presented. However, this VSI method needs constantly measuring the tap voltage and current to ascertain nearness to voltage collapse. Therefore, power tap limit as a function of tap point information such as the length of the link, tap point distance from the main converter station and voltage margin at any point along the HVDC link and optimum tap limit is proposed. Simulation of the proposed technique is carried out in Matlab/Simulink environment with a case study of Namibia/Zambia Caprivi link VSC HVDC system. The simulation results depict that when power tapped is above the derived limit, the DC-link bus voltage collapses. More so, Small and large disturbance voltage stability was also studied. Results also show that when power tapping is below tap limit, small and large disturbances do not have effect on the DC-link voltages, however, when power tapped is above limit, the disturbances lead to voltage instability.

Voltage Regulation for Rural Microgrid Stabilization Using Bidirectional AC-AC Switch-Mode Converters 基于双向交流-交流开关模式变流器的农村微电网稳压调节

The implementation of a direct AC-AC switch-mode converter for microgrid voltage regulation will be investigated with aims to significantly reduce infrastructure costs by extending the supply range from distribution transformers. The application is intended for use in sparsely populated rural areas. The design consists of a series fed regulation transformer driven by an AC-AC converter with the capability to boost or buck a microgrid’s voltage. A feedback controller will be added to regulate the output voltage based on microgrid usage and trends. Simulations confirmed that the regulator was able to regulate the microgrid voltage within specifications and proved to be feasible for use in rural areas.

Comparison Between A Three and Two Level Inverter Variable Flux Machine Drives For Traction Applications 牵引用三电平和二电平逆变变磁通电机驱动器的比较

This paper compares two electric drives, a two and three level neutral point clamped variable flux machine drive. The variable flux machine uses Aluminium Nickel Metal Cobalt (AlNiCo) Permanent Magnets (PMs) which have a lower coercive force. The PMs can thus be demagnetized and remagnetized on the fly by the use of a current pulse. The three level inverter is used due to a requirement for high performance in traction applications. Due to the complexity of the three level inverter as compared to the two level inverter and the nature of the variable flux machine, this paper conducts a comparative simulation study between the two inverters particularly during de-magnetization effects. The simulation studies were conducted at two switching frequencies, 10kHz and 20kHz respectively. Parameters of concern were the Neutral Point (NP) voltage ripple, torque ripple and the d-axis current ripple. An already existing modulation strategy for balancing the two dc bus capacitors on the three level inverter is used. Overall the three level inverter produced a NP voltage ripple of below 0.5% of the dc bus voltage even during de-magnetization stage. The three level inverter produced the lowest torque ripple of less than 7 % at a switching frequency of 20kHz. The two level inverter drive had a d-axis current ripple of more than 200% as compared to the three level inverter drive. This means that a three level inverter promises a lower iron loss contribution in the VFM.

An Embedded Fuzzy Logic Microcontroller For Plant Condition Monitoring: A Wireless Sensor Network Odyssey 用于工厂状态监测的嵌入式模糊逻辑微控制器:无线传感器网络奥德赛

Recent developments in the area of wireless sensor monitoring and application can be categorized into various areas such as building monitoring, crop condition monitoring and more recently in the usage of driverless cars. Also, WSNs have been applied in areas such as environmental monitoring, traffic control and energy management. Even there has been a broad application of WSN in different fields, the application of WSN with fuzzy decision-based rules has not been applied widely in some areas and more so in green house crop management and condition monitoring. To that effect, it is necessary to develop a system based on design science research (DSR) that will monitor the condition of the plant. i.e. temperature, humidity and water. As such, this paper designs and discusses a wireless sensor network that would monitor the greenhouse conditions using fuzzy decision rules. The results showed that the system was capable of providing a low cost, environmental monitoring system and to an extent control the level of humidity and monitor temperature conditions.

Systems Development of a Two-Axis Stabilised Platform to Facilitate Astronomical Observations from a Moving Base 用于移动基地天文观测的双轴稳定平台系统研制

This project aimed to design, simulate, and implement a two-axis inertially stabilised platform (ISP) for use in astronomical applications. It aimed to approximate the stabilisation of a Meade ETX-90 3.5″ compound telescope at low-cost using a mechanical assembly designed to geometrically and inertially model the telescope. A set of system specifications was developed to guide design decisions and to provide an analysis framework against which the performance of the implemented system was compared. The electro-mechanical structure of the ISP was designed and manufactured, the associated electrical systems were specified and configured, an image processing script capable of detecting and locating the centre of the Moon in a camera field-of-view was written, a complete simulation model for the system was developed and used to design various classical controllers for the ISP control system. These controllers were implemented on a STM32F051 microcontroller and a user interface was written in LabVIEW to facilitate intuitive user control of the system and perform datalogging of the system runtime data.

Joint Stiffness and Link Deflection Identification of Serial Robotic Manipulators and End-Effectors 串联机器人机械臂和末端执行器的关节刚度和连杆挠度辨识

This research work aims to evaluate the joint-stiffness and link deflection of any 6-Degree of Freedom revolute serial manipulator. The reduced stiffness inherent in serial robots hinders its application to perform machining operations due to its reduced accuracy imparted through deformations within the links and joints. The current focus is on identifying the stiffness values at each joint considering the translational and rotational movement of the End-Effector with an applied force/torque. Additionally, the paper focuses on identifying the deflections inherent in links of the robot due to both bending and torsional effects. Identifying these parameters could help realise the effects of various forces/torques acting on the End-Effector in three-dimensional space. The high repeatability, extended workspace reachability and alacrity of serial manipulators make them appealing to perform machining operations as opposed to its competitor, the CNC machine. Consequently, from an economic perspective, manufacturers will notice an increased throughput rate of finished goods. This identification and optimization procedure will significantly improve the future of machining with serial robots. The outcome of enhancing the stiffness parameters could result in high precision of workpieces. Manufacturers of the future will be able to identify the true potential of their manipulators to perform machining operations.

Forecasting Solar Power Generation Using Fuzzy Logic and Artificial Neural Network 利用模糊逻辑和人工神经网络预测太阳能发电量

This paper presents the study done on forecasting solar photovoltaic (PV) plant output power using fuzzy logic and artificial neural network methods. Fuzzy logic aided by high performance computer processors enables acceptable accuracy predictions of solar plants outputs and enables system flexibility to consider natural circumstances. Artificial neural network (ANN) technique has capabilities of machine learning and pattern recognition; and is widely used for forecasting purposes. The main objective of the study presented in this paper is to conduct production forecasting of a solar PV plant which will be useful in effective load management and in studying the reliability of the system supplying electrical power to a distribution network. The fuzzy logic method used to mimic the solar PV plant was successfully developed as the average percentage error obtained is 1.9 %. Similarly for ANN method the obtained average error was 2.6 %. The study has been conducted using MATLAB.

Development, Testing and Comparison of Smart Fault Location Algorithms for Smart Transmission Grids 面向智能输电网的智能故障定位算法的开发、测试与比较

This paper presents the design and implementation of three different algorithms used to estimate the location of electrical faults along a transmission line. Firstly, an impedance-based algorithm, which is dependent on the sequence components of the fault voltages and currents, is presented. Secondly, a travelling wave-based fault location algorithm (FLA) is investigated, and it relies on intensive signal processing techniques such as the Discrete Wavelet Transform to estimate the fault location. Lastly, the third algorithm integrates the wavelet transform with artificial intelligence to achieve the same objective. The transmission line is modelled for each algorithm using MATLAB/Simulink to get the required post-fault line parameters. Simulations are carried out under different fault conditions and the results are analysed. It is concluded that all three algorithms are effective for single phase-to-ground and line-to-line faults. The algorithm based on artificial intelligence provided the most conclusive results.

Influence of temperature on tan-delta of XLPE cables 温度对交联聚乙烯电缆tan-delta的影响

The quality of cable insulation in high voltage systems is of important concern. The cable insulation degradation is influenced by service condition and environmental impacts. This paper contributes to the knowledge on the influence of temperature on tan-delta of XLPE cable through an experimental investigation. The laboratory test experiment was conducted on cable samples of 10 meters each with terminations and without terminations at temperature ranges of 200 – 700C to evaluate the influence of temperature and terminations on tan-delta. The results show that tan-delta values of XLPE cables are influenced by insulation temperature.

CREAK descriptor evaluation for visual odometry 视觉里程计的裂纹描述符评估

Each year, latest state of the art technologies and algorithms arise that claim and prove to-shine their predecessors. One such algorithm is the Colour-based Retina Key-point (CREAK) descriptor, which is based on the FAST Retina Key-point (FREAK) descriptor with the included functionality of considering colour information in its Key-point description. This paper explores the implementation of CREAK in a “real-time” visual odometry application by means of a comparative study of the more well-known FREAK algorithm. Although FREAK achieved more accurate odometry when key-points were abundant, this proved to be too computationally expensive. CREAK on the other hand outperformed FREAK when key-points are scarce due to its lack of false-positive matches.
