Background: It is documented that preventive interventions for vulnerable children should start during pregnancy. Clinicians who work with families in the perinatal period must deal with a complexity created by the combination of risk and protection in the child's care system. National guidelines for treatment offered within mental health care in the perinatal period are currently lacking. We present areas of assessment that can inform the clinician working with pregnant women and their partners and show how the use of a biopsychosocial and cultural case formulation can promote therapeutic work in the perinatal period (P-CF). Method: Based upon clinical experience, theory, research, guidelines and knowledge about parents and children in the perinatal period, a selection is made of risk and protective factors that may influence the child’s development and health. Findings: The selected risk and protective factors are systemised in a biopsychosocial and cultural case formulation for the care system in the perinatal period (P-CF). Use of P-CF in clinical settings are exemplified. Implications: The use of P-CF enables the clinician to generate hypotheses about both development and skewed development. Systematic use can increase equality and quality in clinical decision-making processes by making the clinician's assessments less dependent on personal preferences and degree of experience. P-KF can assist the clinician in balancing risk and protective factors and elucidate where therapeutic interventions need to me made and how they should be provided. Keywords: perinatal, mental health, early intervention, case formulation, pregnancy

Background: Few studies have evaluated the effectiveness of enhanced cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT-E) in clinical settings with a transdiagnostic patient population. The current study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of CBT-E in a specialised outpatient eating disorder clinic in southeastern Norway. Method: The study involved a transdiagnostic sample of 96 patients (age 30.7 (SD = 9.4), 92.7% women) with longstanding eating disorders and previous failed treatment attempts. We used multilevel modelling to examine change in eating disorder pathology from pre-treatment (T1) to post-treatment (T2) and follow-up 25 weeks later (T3). A total of 57 patients had sufficient data at T2 and 35 patients at T3. Results: We found statistically significant reductions in eating disorder pathology from pre- to post-treatment. Of those who completed treatment, 49.1% met criteria for remission at post-treatment. These changes were stable at follow-up. Implications: CBT-E may lead to reductions in eating disorder pathology and should be considered an acceptable form of treatment for adult patients with eating disorders. Objective: This study aimed to explore the feasibility of the Body Project Treatment (BPT) in Norway and examine potential reductions in eating disorder (ED) psychopathology from pre- to post-test. Method: This is a mixed-method design pilot study. A total of 34 females with ED participated in BPT groups. Participants completed self-report questionnaires at pre- and post-test and were invited to participate in focus groups after completing BPT. Feedback from clinicians was also gathered. Results: Overall, BPT was found to be feasible, and significant reductions in ED psychopathology were demonstrated between assessments. Participants were generally satisfied with participating in BPT groups. The main themes that emerged from focus groups included i) shared experiences, ii) clear structure and iii) changes in body and mind. Conclusions: Results indicate that BPT is feasible and may produce reductions in ED symptoms. Further effects remain to be explored in a large-scale study. Keywords: eating disorders, treatment, outpatient, transdiagnostic, intervention feasibility

The article discusses the possibilities for finding words for and conveying trauma within a social and political context where the history of what happened is also at risk of disappearing. By comparing two different accounts of enforced disappearance – the Colombian Martha Soto Gallo’s archive for her missing brother and the Mexican literary text Antígona González (Uribe, 2012/2021) – we explore how the texts describe and move beyond the mechanisms of the modern lie and the tendency of trauma towards silencing. The study’s theoretical base is psychoanalytic trauma theory and testimony theory. We also engage in dialogue with Hanna Arendt’s thinking. The archive shows a repetitive pattern; the tireless search for an answer and the answers that never materialise or that pretend to be answers. We discuss how the figurative language of literature can shed light on the silences in the archive. The article reflects on the relationship between the disappeared and the trauma survivor. In dialogue with Carruth’s (2016) concept of traumatic awakenings, we suggest that the ethical imperative – as a result of witnessing severe traumatic experience – can be an engine for political activism, as it appears here in the survivors’ documentation practices. Keywords: trauma, enforced disappearance, psychoanalysis, testimony, Antígona González

Background: Restorative process has been used as a treatment intervention in cases where children sexually abuse other children. However, empirical knowledge of the method is scarce. Aim: This study aims to explore therapists` reflections on how restorative process affects children who participate. Method: We conducted semi-structured interviews with 12 therapists working with sexually abused children and child abusers. Six of the participants had experience in using restorative process. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: The analysis resulted in three themes: (1) becoming stronger, (2) making matters worse, and (3) restorative conditions. Conclusion: The majority of the therapists point out that restorative process can be helpful if it is well prepared, both children want to participate, and the abuser takes responsibility. Without these factors, restorative process can be harmful, especially for the victim. Keywords: harmful sexual behaviour, child sexual abuse, restorative process, qualitative method, therapist experience

Background: Equitable mental healthcare regardless of area of residence is a political aim in Norway. The purpose of this study is to evaluate geographical variation in private practitioner coverage, and explore differences between private practitioners with public reimbursement and local community mental health centers (CMHCs) in terms of diagnoses and scope of outpatient treatment, with a focus on mood and neurotic disorders. Method: Cross-sectional registry-based study of adults in outpatient mental healthcare at private practitioners or CMHCs in Norway in 2014–2018. We calculated distribution of diagnoses, geographical variation in rates of private practitioners, and analyzed scope of treatment for patients with mood and neurotic disorders (ICD-10 disorders F3, F4). We estimate cost per treated patient and report geographic variation for hospital catchment areas. Results: Patients with F3, F4 disorders accounted for 64.7 % at private practitioners, and 31.5 % at CMHCs, and received more treatment at private practitioners, five more consultations in a 42 day longer period. There is considerable geographical variation in private practitioner coverage, highest in South-East Norway and lowest in North Norway. Implications: As long as management and priority setting are differently organized for CMHCs and private practitioners in mental health care, we must expect geographical variation in access and use. It appears as an equity paradox that a group of patients, rejected by or not referred to CMHC, receive more treatment by private practitioners. Keywords: mental healthcare, outpatient consultations, private practitioners, CMHC, geographical variation, equal access, equity, priority setting

Background: The aim was to examine experiences with the Norwegian-developed tool ‘Hei Body and Self-Esteem’ in connection with conversations about body image, shame, food, appearance and performance pressure. Method: Five health professional students tested the ‘Hei Body and Self-Esteem’ tool with 105 subjects aged between four and 60, with and without difficulties with food, body and weight, in kindergartens, schools, sports environments and the health service. The students’ experiences were documented through praxis logs and a focus group interview and were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: The students’ experiences indicated that the tool facilitated relevant conversations about body image, weight and eating patterns across age and gender in the various settings in which the trial took place. The students found that using the cards in conversations helped to normalize experiences and reduce shame, as well as invite more reflection and dialogue in groups, individually and among the students themselves. Implications: The ‘Hei Body and Self-Esteem’ cards may be relevant as a conversation tool in prevention, treatment and training related to body image, eating disorders and obesity. Keywords: body image, eating disorders, obesity, shame, self-esteem

Background: The aim of this systematic review was to investigate the risk of neuropsychological sequelae from boxing. Method: We conducted a systematic search in the databases Medline, Embase, PsychInfo and Web of Science. Studies with boxers, control groups, using neuropsychological assessment and brain-imaging/biomarkers were included. Nine articles met these criteria. Results: The results revealed that processing speed was reduced in six of the nine studies among both amateur and professional boxers. Processing speed correlated negatively with volume of thalamus and number of boxing fights (fight exposure). Three studies found reduced fine motoric skills among professional boxers, but not among amateur boxers. Boxers with more than 15 years of experience had significantly reduced verbal memory compared to controls. Eight of the nine studies found that both amateur and professional boxers had reduced cognitive capacity and/or positive findings on biomarkers. Conclusion: Based on the results, it is reasonable to assume that neuropsychological sequelae are related to career length and number of fights. There may be a dose–response relationship between the number of punches to the head and the risk of neuropsychological sequelae. Methodological limitations (such as low statistical power and short-term follow-up) should be taken into consideration. There is a need for more longitudinal studies to further investigate neuropsychological sequelae of boxing. Keywords: boxing, neuropsychological sequelae, head injury
