VII a.

The aim of this paper is to study the use of Greco-Roman myths in 19th Century Argentina by focusing on two outstanding authors for their way of approaching them from different perspectives and aesthetics. The former, Vicente López y Planes, in his work El triunfo argentino appeals to myth by following the classicist aesthetic characterized by the use of mythology as a convention. The latter, Olegario V. Andrade, immersed in Romanticism in his work Prometeo chooses this mythological character for being a transgressive hero. Besides, we must take into account the particular Spanish-American reality in which people fight for Independence from Spain, since they take France as a model, without realizing that while accepting its influence, they receive at the same time a new colonizing power.

Assuming that, more than a specialized religious technique, yoga was a cultural phenomenon, and therefore its study should consider its various representations, including those from literature, this article explores the image of yoga in the epic poem Raghuvaṃśa (The dynasty of the Raghus) by the Indian author Kālidāsa (5th century). Thus, key passages are translated for the first time from Sanskrit into Spanish and analyzed, arguing that representation of yoga in the poem rests upon the ideals of equilibrium and self-mastery in accordance with the political, spiritual, and aesthetical values of the period, and noting the importance of such representation for the study of the History of yoga.

The purpose of this article is to explain what prohairesis is in the philosophy of Epictetus, for which we will collect its main features, namely, (I) that the achievement of happiness (or the achievement of virtue) depends entirely on the use we give to our prohairesis, and (II) that prohairesis is the highest thing among all which belong to human being. So three complex questions need to be addressed: (1) How does prohairesis relate to the rational faculty (δύναμις λογική)?, (2) How does prohairesis relate to the faculty that uses representations (ἡ χρηστικὴ δύναμις ταῖς φαντασίαις)? And, last but not least, (3) How does prohairesis relate to the ruling part of the soul (τὸ ἡγεμονικόν)? According a comparative reading of several key passages, in this article we show that only the first two questions are answered by an identity relationship. About the third question, we argue that prohairesis is a faculty belonging to hēgemonikón, a conclusion that turns away from common postures in specialized literature.
