Hedging practices among Shari’ah compliant firms (ShC) are still not well explored and firms in Malaysia is very much lag behind in derivatives usage against firms in the developed countries. This study investigates the influence of financial derivatives usage on the value of Shari’ah and non-Shari’ah compliant firms (non-ShC) in Malaysia and compares the influence of derivatives usage on the value between the two categories of firms. To meet its objective, Generalized Method-of-Moment estimator (System-GMM) is employed on a set of panel data from 2000-2017. This study covers 200 firms engaged in derivatives which 59 firms are ShC firms and 141 are non-ShC firms. This study finds financial derivatives contribute positively to the value of Shari’ah compliant but negatively to the non-ShC firms. This study concludes that ShC performed better than its counterpart in risk management using derivatives. The findings enrich the current literature on the Islamic financial market and contribute to a better understanding relating to hedging activities. This study offers new evidence on risk management using derivatives in both Shari’ah and non-ShC firms and the importance of industrial diversification on firm value. This study suggests that the non-involvement in non-ShC firm’s activities contributes to the lower risk profile hence a more effective risk management of the Shari’ah compliant firms

Institutional and social network are several major research traditions in the business and management areas. This paper examines the role of owner/managers’ social network on entrepreneurship initiatives and the underlying socio-cultural factors promoting or impeding SME development in Kazakhstan. A semi-structured interviews were carried-out with thirteen SME owners/managers in Almaty Kazakhstan. It is found that personal networks in general social networks have significant implications on a variety of entrepreneurial activities. SMEs still need to utilize their personal social networks to substitute for formal institutions. Normative institutional elements such as legal and moral are still major factors driving entrepreneurial activities but still lagging behind regulative and cognitive institutional transformation. Business ties and networking ability may mitigate the necessity for external financing. One of the major implication in this study is the need for SME owners/managers to build personal networks and to keep and maintain this network with their peers as well as the government not only for extra information but even for the sustainability of their business. To do this, SME owners/managers need to be regularly in contact with their peers and government officials, offering helps when needed, collaborate on projects, share their goals, get connected on social media and also joining networking events.

Alternate :In a healthcare setting, nurses are the majority of healthcare specialists, thus making their job performance the key determinant of patient's care quality. Given the rising number of patients being admitted to public hospitals and the increasing demands imposed by patients and their higher expectations, the need to further improve nurses' performance and quality of service delivery becomes imperative. The Conservation of Resources (COR) theory is used to investigate the influence of human resource management methods (HRMPs), which represent organizational-based resources (in the form ofparticipation and compensation) on nurses 'job performance (task performance and contextual performance) with motivation as the mediator. Partial Least Squares (PLS) technique was used to analyse the data collected from 354 nurses attached with Malaysian public hospitals. The results disclosed that both HRMPs have direct and positive effects on motivation. Similarly, motivation mediated the link between involvement and compensation with task and contextual performance. Similarly, motivation mediated the link between involvement and compensation with task and contextual performance. This study has offered a vital recommendation to the nurse supervisors to motivate the nurses by giving more prospects for them to engage in making decisions and participating in hospital affairs.

This study attempts to investigate the participant(s) halal industry information asymmetry issues and their intention, if any, to mitigate it. Additionally, this study also investigates the moderating effects of their perceptions towards industry 4.0 adoption and their intentions of using industry 4.0 to mitigate information asymmetry. This research is exploratory research. We adapted the questionnaire based on “Agency Theory and the Technology Acceptance Model” by combining management and technology literature into single-sourced literature. The research using the SmartPLS software “Partial Least Squares (PLS)” modelling and the 2-step approach to test the model development. The concepts of private information, hidden information, and the lack of perfect information have facilitated these companies’ top management intentions to mitigate these information asymmetry issues. The results also show that the top management of halal industry has the intention to reduce information asymmetry through industry 4.0 adoption as they perceived industry 4.0 is useful, easy to use, is cost affordable, and provides a high system and content quality.
