This reflection will focus on a corpus of testimonies collected in Metz a few months after the terrorist attacks on November 13, 2015 in France. We will discuss how the media narratives of these attacks build an internalized representation of a national event among speakers who live 350 km away from the site of these attacks. It emerges a balance between cohesive momentum and local withdrawal, in particular through the involvement and the emotion of citizens. We will show that the distance Lorraine/Paris and its suburbs appears in a polarizing or unifying apprehension. Through the prism of the media consulted, an articulation occurs between projective collective identities and frozen identities of the past.

This study aims to show how the principle of otherness emerges in the discourse of the national written press in France. We consider that in the media, the Other is Poland, whose social meaning, stored in the collective memory, embraces the extremely negative traits of difference and threat. The judgment of otherness relates to four components of this meaning. Firstly, Poland is perceived as an object whose location is indefinite and undecided. Secondly, it is strange due to its excessive, aggressive and dangerous Catholicism. Thirdly, it harms France and the common European project. Finally, it constitutes an eco- nomic threat.

The aim of this article is to analyse the identity construction of companion animal owners in French digital commemorative discourse. The study is based on homages to animals published on the website of the French pro-animal organization 30 millions d’amis. The issue is being examined in relation to the speaking legitimacy of the subject and to the communication situation, which leads to the distinction of two fundamental components of their identity construction: intimate identity and situation of mourning. The study underlines community character of the commemorative discourse devoted to animals, its high level of pathemization and presence of attitudes of engagement and dramatization.

This article – focused on three plays that make up Marco Micone’s dramatic trilogy (Gens du silence, Addolorata, Déjà l’agonie) – consists of two parts. First, it outlines the historical-political environment of Quebec in the context of immigration and identity issues. Then, the article analyzes some compositional and linguistic aspects – micro- and macrostructural – linked to the migrant identity of the protagonists (monology, adialogism, plurilingualism, metalinguism).

Green advertising encourages the public to adopt ecoresponsible behaviour in view of the deterioration of the environment. Thus, to involve everyone personally or collectively, it uses the imperative mode and deictics. The aim of this study is to highlight the main themes conveyed in green advertising in France and Poland, and also to show the interplay of personal poles in imperative slogans that become rallying phrases for the green cause. Polish makes general use of the imperative in the 2nd person singular, where- as French makes extensive use of the 2nd person plural. In both languages, the use of the 1st person plural is frequent, often accompanied by an adverb ensemble (razem) to emphasise the collective involvement in adopting eco-responsible actions.

The article attempts to analyze the discourse formulas: on behalf of Rzeczypospolita and on behalf of Poland in the speeches of the presidents of the Third Polish Republic (1995-2023). The aim is to describe the potential of these formulas in the context of constructing the collective identity. The authors continue the debate undertaken in the previous publication (Dyoniziak & Pirogowska, 2023) and show on the basis of 1000 presidential speeches written on www.prezydent.pl that the proper name Rzeczpospolita has greater identity potential than the name Polska in creating a national community.

The aim of the article is to show the role of the prefixe post in the construction of discursive identity of actors described with a country name or its reformulation in the French media discourse. The observation of uses of this prefixe added to the the adjective sovétique (Soviet), which completes a proper name or its discursive reformulation (such as état/pays/espace – state/country/space), allowed to distinguish the most common effects of the use of post: the referential blurring, which contributes to the creation of the collective identity of the agents, the memorial character of the adjective postsoviétique, which constructs the discursive identity of agents by constantly recalling the past, as well as the appearance of the adjective in proximity to axiologically marked structures.

Identity is a complex concept, as it is not solely a matter of an individual’s perception of oneself, but also influenced by how others perceive them. This is the view of Patrick Charaudeau, who defines identity as “a complex matter, as it is not only a matter of self, but also a matter of others, or more precisely, a matter of self through the eyes of others”. To gain insight into the construction of identity among football supporters, particularly those of the Polish National Team, this study aims to analyze the discourse of online football supporters during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Specifically, the study focuses on the comments made by fans on the Facebook page Łączy nas piłka. The research will examine how a collective identity is formed through the comments made by supporters in a virtual cultural reality. The analysis will be based on the various comments made by online users, including judgments, encouragements, replies, insults, and internet mèmes. The comments section of Łączy nas piłka serves as the fertile ground for linguistic exchanges where the online football supporters express their discourse, marked by a diverse range of emotions and values that are commonly shared among the fans of the Polish National Team. Through this study, we aim to present the discourse of online football supporters, which reflects the manifestation of collective identity among football supporters. By examining the language used by these supporters in online discourse, we can gain insights into how collective identities are formed and expressed in the digital realm.

The present contribution is a corpus-based analysis of protest messages that could be read during demonstrations in Poland against the decision of the Constitutional Court imposing further restrictions on the abortion law in 2020. The corpus is made up of 1000 texts written on placards and banners of the demonstrators, which were photographed and uploaded on newspaper websites or on Facebook between October 22 and November 22. The author examines the slogans with the aim of grasping the discursive identity/identities of protesting women, and reflect on the changing perception of the role of women in the Polish society.
