This research is motivated by the existence of illocutionary speech acts in the dialogue of Hazel's character in the film The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. This research aims to describe the types of illocutionary speech acts and the functions of illocutionary speech acts in Hazel's dialogue in John Green's The Fault in Our Stars. The methodology used in this research was a descriptive qualitative method with a library technique data search method. The data source for this research was the film The Fault in Our Stars which was released in 2014. All illocutionary utterances contained in Hazel's dialogues in the film The Fault in Our Stars were the object of this research. Data collection was done by writing and note method. The results of this research indicate that there are five types of illocutionary speech acts found in Dilan's dialogue in the film The Fault in Our Stars, namely assertive illocutionary speech acts, directive speech acts, commissive speech acts, expressive speech acts and declarative speech acts.

The low ability to write scientific articles in students must be addressed immediately. This factor is increasingly prominent when the learning model used is not in accordance with the learning outcomes of the course. This research aims to measure the ability to write scientific articles of university students in Indonesia before and after the application of the Genre-Based Writing Model synthesized with Critical Literacy. A quantitative approach was used in this research with a quasi-experimental research method. The data sources of this research were students from four universities in Indonesia with a total of 144 students. The research data were the students' scientific articles. The data collection technique in this research was the test technique. Based on the results of the research, students' abilities before being treated with the Genre-Based Writing model synthesized with Critical Literacy were in the sufficient category, while after being treated with the model students' abilities were in the excellent category. In other words, there was a significant increase in students' ability to write scientific articles between before and after being treated with the Genre-Based Writing model synthesised with Critical Literacy.

This research focuses on finding out the effect of implementing the Snakes and Ladders Game in teaching reading. This research was conducted by applying experimental quantitative research. The aim of this research is to determine whether or not there is an influence of the Snakes and Ladders Game on the learning achievement of grade 5 students. The author took 15 students as an experimental group using the Snakes and Ladders game and 15 students as a control group using conventional methods. The population of this study was 30 students consisting of class 5. The author took two classes as a random sample to see the influence of the Snakes and Ladders game in teaching reading. Data was taken by giving a reading test into two tests: pre-test and pro-test for the experimental and control groups. The average pre-test score for the experimental group was 60.2 and post-test 85, the average pre-test score for the control group was 55.7 and the post-test 73. Therefore this shows that the average score for the pre-test the experimental group was 60.2 and the post-test was 85. the experimental group was higher than the control group. The results of t count > t table with a significance level of p=0.05 (8.5 > 2.048). the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It is recommended that English subject teachers apply the Snakes and Ladders Game as an alternative teaching medium to help and enrich students' Reading Comprehension.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the compatibility between the critical reading skills and the reading passages in the textbook with the syllabus and global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) topics. The method used in this research was a qualitative descriptive method that utilized the critical reading textbook as a sample. The sample of the research was taken by using a checklist and the result of the research will be shown by percentages. The results find that the textbook has 100% compatibility with all of the criteria in the syllabus and has only 47.05% compatibility with the SDGs topics. It means that this textbook is recommended to be used as one of the teaching references in critical reading courses but the authors are suggested to construct some adjustments so that students will get the latest reading material as the times change which is related to SDGs in order to foster the students’ awareness, empathy, and compassion in facing global issues.

This research is aimed to describe and to explain external innovation in the variant categories of word classes found in the usage of Banten dialect of Javanese language at the border of Serang Regency, Banten Province. The research problem formulation in this research was the external innovation and categories found in the usage of the Banten dialect of Javanese language at the border of Serang Regency, Banten Province. This research used a qualitative descriptive of observation method with the techniques of engaging in conversation and contact or mutual conversation with the technique of simultaneous conversation. This technique was then followed by note-taking, both from the interlocutors and language assistants. The research was conducted in eight villages in the districts of Pamarayan, Pontang, Tanara, and Anyer. The sample informants in each village consisted of 2 native speakers of the Banten dialect of Javanese language. The research instrument used for interviewing was a list of 314 questions. The findings of this research indicate that each region exhibited symptoms of external innovation, namely the loanwords from the contact with other language at the border of Serang Regency, such as the loanwords of Sundanese, Javanese, Betawi, and Lampung vocabulary. Variant categories of word classes are also found, such as nouns, adjectives, verbs, directional words, conjunctions, agreement words, and question words. Suggestions that could be considered in this research include creating an etymology dictionary or a dialect dictionary. Those two dictionaries are considered necessary because currently, the influence of other language might lead to convergence, and therefore documentation is needed for further study or the preservation of the language in the future

This research aims to describe the implementation of self-directed learning (SDL) for the tenth-grade students of SMK PGRI 2 Tanah Grogot, to analyze the effectiveness of the self-directed learning (SDL) strategy on reading comprehension skills for the tenth-grade students of SMK PGRI 2 Tanah Grogot and to analyze the student's motivation after the application of the self-directed learning (SDL) strategy of reading comprehension skills for the tenth-grade students of SMK PGRI 2 Tanah Grogot. This research used experimental investigation methods. The target population and sample of this research were all tenth-grade students of SMK PGRI 2 Tanah Grogot for the academic year 2022/2023. The total sample was 14 students. The findings of the research show that the efficiency of using self-directed learning strategy can be known from pre- and post-test comparison findings. It can be seen from the acquisition of the means of the pre-test was 43.1429 and the post-test was 85.4286 which was carried out on the same 14 samples. The questionnaire's findings answers showed that student motivation increases after carrying out the learning process. It can be seen from the frequency distribution of questionnaire statements using the Likert Scale. Based on the findings, it is possible to deduce that the use of self-directed learning strategies improves students' reading comprehension skills and motivation.

This research aims to identify the effect of learning method on students’ speaking skill, the effect learning method on critical thinking, and the effect learning method learning method on students’ speaking skill and critical thinking. Lecturer was chosen Students Team Achievement Division (STAD) and Jigsaw. Through learning method, researcher supposed to the students to get fluency in speaking English This research uses experimental research. Sample of this research was 30 students sixth semester Educational English Program at STKIP Kusumanegara. It was divided into two classes, that is, experiment class and control class. Collecting of the data was by using questionnaire and test speaking. Data was analysed using Kolmogorov Smirnow, to identify the data was normality. Then data was analysed by using Levenue to define that the data was homogeinity. It was obtained hypothesis, from the table Multivariate Test with F=74.642, sig 0.000 (<0.05). The results show that there is significant effect learning method towards Speaking Skills and Critical Thinking. It represents that F=145.499, p-value for category speaking skill (Y1) is 0.000 (<0.05), in which H0 is rejected or there is differences significant between students’ speaking skill in students’ group which was given by learning method with STAD with students’ speaking skill in students’ group which was given by learning method with Jigsaw. The purpose of this research is to find out the correlation vocabulary mastery and the result of reading English at eight grade. The research was conducted at junior high school (SMP) Kasih Depok in Depok. The test method used quantitative research, which type of correlation research. The data collection technique used multiple choice objective test totally of items were 80 questions. The questions were consisting 40 items of vocabulary test and 40 items of reading English test. After doing the validity of the test items, then analyzing, and calculating of the test through the use of the Pearson product moment correlation test. It has been obtained T value counting bigger than T table (0,54 > 0,2484) and significant value as 0,000 which is meant less than 0,05(0,000 < 0,05). Therefore, this research has proved the second hypothesis that stated there was positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and the result of reading English at eight grade junior high school (SMP) Kasih Depok.

The focus of this research is the study of two folklores entitled Roro Jonggrang (the origin of Prambanan temple) from Central Java and Sangkuriang (the origin of Tangkuban Perahu Mountain) from West Java. This research was a qualitative research with comparative study techniques. The method used in this research was a descriptive method. Data were analyzed using a qualitative approach to content analysis techniques.
The research findings indicate that there are some similarities and differences between the folklores in terms of characters, characterizations, settings, themes and moral values.

The learning process in listening practice is only limited to one type of text. Students have difficulty adapting to various types of audio material. Learning focuses more on speaking and writing skills than listening. As a result, students are less trained in active listening. A deep understanding of these issues helps to develop more effective learning strategies and supports students in overcoming these obstacles. Technological developments in education have influenced students' learning styles. This research aims to describe how students perceive the utilization of technology, specifically podcasts, to enhance their listening skills. The research employed a qualitative research method, specifically a case study, to gather data through questionnaires and interviews. The participants were EFL learners focusing on Listening for Professional Purposes, with 40 students completing the questionnaires and 10 representative students being interviewed. Findings reveal that students had a favorable response to utilizing podcasts as a means of enhancing their listening skills. They appreciated the simplicity, flexibility, engagement, and enjoyment of employing podcasts as media of learning. Findings from this research help lecturer develop curriculum and learning materials that better suit with students’ preferences and needs. This research allowed for the creation of more interesting and technology-relevant materials that are more acceptable to students.
