Between the 28th of April and the 1st of May 1915, the «International Congress of Women» took place in Den Haag, NL. Women activists from twelve neutral and belligerent states protested war, founded a women’s peace league, produced 20 peace resolutions and presented them to their nation’s leaders. Among those actively engaged were also two Austrians: Leopoldine Kulka and Olga Misař. This article examines the ways in which these female peace activists were able to access different levels of the public sphere and spread their message as well as providing an analysis of their self-historicisation in the face of societal disapproval.

Seven film directors – Mehran Tamadon, David Korn-Brzoza, Jean-Gabriel Périot, Frédéric Gonseth, Stéphane Goël, Daniel Wyss et Alex Mayenfisch – discussed the four key-steps in historic documentary film production. Their seven points of view diverged on why and how films should and can portray History. From the roundtable brilliantly moderated by Anaïs Kien, producer for La Fabrique de l’Histoire at France Culture radio station, there emerged a variety of film-making practices – from purists of audiovisual archives to illusionists of high definition colour movies.

The research presented in this paper focuses on how to make a complex historical period echoing topical issues understandable. The events in question are the 1892-1894 anarchist attacks. Drawing on the analysis of secondary school textbooks, our study highlights the weakness of the proposed explanatory network with a predominance of the causal framework and the weight of scholastic vulgate in the presentation of the establishment of the Third Republic.

The history of «foreign» women in France during the Great War is not yet been written. Long forgotten by historians, they are presented by the military and police authorities as dangerous and suspicious from the beginning of the conflict. As moral and family support for enemy combatants, they are monitored in camps or at home, and their daily lives are followed in order to detect a possible new Mata-Hari. Whether they are single or married to a German, young or old, these women are asked to leave the country at the beginning of the conflict, but those who remained by choice are subjected to police constraints, interrogations and the suspicious looks of the population. Considered as «internal enemies», they experience difficult and even precarious living conditions. The case of Marthe Gusdorf, living with her children in Bordeaux-Caudéran for the duration of the war, is one example among hundreds of these women who made history in spite of themselves.

In this work, we present the results of some research conducted by the group GREDICS on the formation of historical thinking in the historical narratives constructed by the students of lower and upper secondary school. To elaborate these texts, they used historical sources. Our research focuses on analyzing the results of a work based on a historical problem, such as the Republican exile during the Spanish Civil War. We present the results of the use of primary and secondary sources for the construction of narratives, especially in a final narrative developed in video format.

During the Cold War, discourse about the « spiritual national defence » against « the Communists » was widespread in Switzerland. To strengthen the young generation’s will to defend their country, the heroic history of successfully fought battles in the Middle Ages was seen as important. The national master narrative was taught until the 1980s. Nevertheless, history teachers agreed that contemporary and world history had to become a school subject too. Furthermore, international organizations proposed peace education through schools, for which history lessons could serve as examples.
