The digital economy has advanced from the growing investment in digital technologies by organizations in their digital transformation process. Furthermore, digital technologies are reshaping traditional business strategy for performance gains. However, there is still no in-depth discussion regarding the skills and capabilities that can help organizations improve their performance. Thus, the purpose of our research is to examine the role of digital capabilities in digital business performance. We adopted a qualitative research method to explore digital capabilities. To do so, we conducted interviews with 31 executives that work in digital businesses. The research makes several contributions through the conceptualization of digital capabilities, providing some initial results revealed in the previous conceptual framework, based on the literature review, composed of digital capabilities (sensing, responsiveness, process scanning, and ecosystem connectivity) related to digital business performance, and empirically analyzed by interviews with executives. The practical value of this research rests on the relationship between digital capabilities and the digital business performance. As a result, we present four digital capabilities that enhance operational excellence, revenue growth and relationships with customers and stakeholders.

The objective of the research was to identify the propensity for collaboration between providers and demanders of technology in Industry 4.0 of Ceara. For this, a survey was carried out on technology providers that sought to understand the institution's technology, as well as its application and its value proposition for the industrial sector. The objective questions aimed to measure the level of maturity of the technology, and also to raise the willingness to collaborate with a company interested in investing in the technology to develop it. In the case of demand, we sought to raise one to two problems or opportunities existing in the company that could be solved through the development of a technology, which the respondent should describe and point out the level of severity, urgency and tendency of the problems or opportunities. It was possible to identify that most of the offerers already have a product ready for the market, while the claimants have a greater need precisely for these ready products. Followed by the finished products, the research showed that the industries are also very interested in collaborating in the development of technologies that are still in the research phase, portraying that part of their problems will not be solved with a standard product and must be individualized.

The objective was to analyze the effect of public policy on the development of Minas Gerais LPAs. We used data from 853 municipalities of the state, for 2005 to 2016, extracted from the bases FIRJAN and IMRS FJP. For data treatment and analysis, the Stata® software was used. To capture this effect, a dummy fixed effects model was employed. In the municipalities belonging to LPAs benefiting from this policy, there was a positive and significant effect, indicating a 9.35% increase in development indicators. These results provide a positive signal for the continuity of the policy under analysis, or similar actions. LPAs are recognized as vectors of development largely because of their ability to enhance employment and income generation. Thus, it is understood that maintaining actions to strengthen local economies by supporting their development tends to positively imply the context in which they are inserted.

Há uma nítida falta de alinhamento entre os conceitos de ecossistema de inovação e sistema de inovação. Assim, o objetivo dessa pesquisa é identificar características, distinções e semelhanças entre um ecossistema de inovação e um sistema de inovação. Para tanto, foi realizada uma revisão integrativa da literatura. Foram recuperados 24 artigos analisados de forma qualitativa. A partir da análise pode-se perceber que os conceitos de ecossistema de inovação e sistemas de inovação apresentam diferenças significativas. Enquanto a literatura de sistemas de inovação é mais desenvolvida e robusta, trabalhos sobre ecossistemas de inovação são mais emergentes. Enquanto a primeira possui maior foco nas instituições, regulado, linear e hierárquico, o ecossistema de inovação é mais dinâmico, autorregulado e voltado para o mercado. Por fim, conclui-se que ambas as abordagens podem ser utilizadas sob determinada lente e são úteis, desde que, abordadas de forma não análoga.

This article aims to identify advantages and disadvantages of implementing a framework dedicated to managing alliances and assessing the instruments created and their purpose. The results demonstrate that the advantages of the dedicated structure - mediation, organization and relationship centralization - outweigh the disadvantages - bureaucratization and slow decision making. The research contributed to the discussion about the office's role and the relationship between it and the mechanisms of alliance capacity building. It also contributed to reaffirm its importance, confirming the literature regarding the accumulation and exchange of knowledge and the identification of new opportunities. Another contribution is related to the longitudinal evaluation – little used method in the literature - of the office performance, showing its evolution and learning mechanisms. Regarding our contributions to managers, we also highlight the need for autonomy and organizational support to the office and the need for specific training in alliance portfolio management for those involved.

Este caso de ensino descreve a trajetoria de internacionalizacao da Schutz, uma marca de calcados femininos do Grupo Arezzo & Co. Este processo e peculiar dentro do contexto da internacionalizacao de calcados brasileiros por dois aspectos. O primeiro e o desenvolvimento e posicionamento da marca dentro do proprio contexto da corporacao. O segundo envolve a adocao do modo de entrada com o estabelecimento de lojas proprias nos Estados Unidos da America, representando assim uma operacao wholesale. O caso se propoe a atender os seguintes objetivos de estudo: (a) proporcionar a compreensao de processo de internacionalizacao da marca Schutz; (b) compreender o modo de entrada utilizado pela empresa e, (c) revelar como o processo de internalizacao afeta o modelo de negocio do grupo Arezzo & Co. The diffusion of broadband internet services has brought about substantial changes in the business environment of traditional newspaper companies. Until then, they had sustained their operations by selling advertisements in their printed newspapers. Still, its readers shifted their habits and began to consume the online news provided by an increasing number of competitors. Consequently, managers had to change the business models of traditional newspaper companies through choices focused on meeting the controllers' short and medium-term demands. This paper analyzes the situation experienced by the New York Times, whose managers had to make choices about the new configuration of the company's business model, adjusting it both to the environment and the expectations of readers and controllers. We collected the data from the New York Times reports published between 2003 and 2012. Subsequently, we analyzed these data through the integrated activities framework and the theory of modal aspects. The results indicate that the managers changed the company's business model through choices that aimed to meet the short and medium-term demands of the controllers. Hence, the new model had limitations that would need further changes shortly.

Desta forma, a pesquisa teve como objetivo compreender os principais atores do ecossistema de inovacao da Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras), aqueles que colaboram para as atividades de Pesquisa & Desenvolvimento da empresa. Para isso, foram analisados os relatorios de tecnologia da Petrobras por meio de uma adaptacao da analise de conteudo. A Petrobras lidera o seu ecossistema e enfatiza o gerenciamento dos complementors e a divulgacao dos projetos realizados em conjunto. Este estudo teve como objetivo principal analisar a percepcao do gestor de uma pequena agroindustria de aves a respeito da inovacao. Identificar quais inovacoes sao geradas nesta empresa, bem como verificar a visao do gestor acerca do processo inovativo, compreendendo desde a concepcao do termo inovacao, seus beneficios e principais dificuldades para a gestao e implementacao de inovacoes. Trata-se de um estudo de caso com abordagem qualitativa. Para a coleta de dados, foi realizada entrevista com o gestor responsavel pela agroindustria. Pode-se observar que a agroindustria objeto deste estudo, desenvolve inovacoes incrementais que sao, em grande parte, baseadas em fornecedores, tanto de insumos, como maquinas e equipamentos, tambem atraves da introducao e/ou aprimoramento de processos na producao de bens ou servicos.
