In this contribution the author presents the results of geological and geomorphological field mapping and structural analyses conducted within the area of a newly recognized landslide situated near Włodowice, in the southern part of the Nowa Ruda Basin (Central Sudetes, SW Poland). The landform is located within the eastern limb of the Intra-Sudetic Synclinorium (Nowa Ruda Monocline) built of Upper Carboniferous to Lower Permian (Rotliegend) sedimentary rocks. Geomorphological characteristics of the landslide are presented, but the greatest attention is paid to the way of transformation of individual structural elements of basement rocks (bedding surfaces, sets of fractures) by mass movements. The study allows recognition and interpretation of landslide type according to failure mechanism – the analysed form represents a typical translational landslide with a flat, structural slip surface related to bedding planes. A model of the development of a translational landslide under specific geological conditions (monoclinal structure built of different lithological varieties of sedimentary rocks with different rheological properties) is presented. Due to the partial exposure of the slip surface in the upper and lower parts of the landslide, the form should be considered unique among the previously identified landslides in the Sudetes Mts. During this study the author repeatedly confirms the usefulness of analyses of LiDAR models in landslide investigations.

Impact of the method of determination of soil strength parameters on the results of slope stability analyses. Prz. Geol., 68: 577–583; doi: 10.7306/2020.22 A b s t r a c t. The basic assumptions determining the methodology for testing soil strength parameters have been known for almost 250 years (Coulomb, 1773). Nevertheless, obtaining reliable and unambiguous parameter values for calculations is still a difficult problem. The main problem results from the fact that soil strength parameters are not a material constant. This means that the values of the angle of internal friction and soil coherence are dependent on the research methodology used. The article presents the impact of the method of determination of soil strength parameters on the assessment of slope stability. The earlier literature recommends adapting the method of testing samples as much as possible to real conditions. This allows the geologist to have some freedom in choosing the research methodology. The PN-EN 1997-2: 2008 standard puts more emphasis on a uniform test methodology. In the interpretation of Eurocode 7, due to the need to determine accurately effective stresses, “only strength tests of soils completely saturated with water or dry soils are considered”. Stability analyses performed for a small, still active landslide in Kojszówka have shown that the use of only effective parameters for slope analyses may not be fully reliable.

Groundwater level changes caused by influence of mining tremors – case study from the Rydu³towy Mine Area (Poland). Prz. 68: 204–210; doi: 10.7306./2020.8 A b s t r a c t. In 2018, as part of the implementation of a European project: European Plate Observing System (EPOS-PL), a hydrological monitoring system was installed in a Rybnik test site. The system is configured to measure changes of groundwater level caused by seismic events which were induced by mining exploitation. The piezometers were drilled within an active mining area, in close vicinity to mining longwalls of the Rydu³towy Coal Mine, an industrial partner in the project. The paper presents the state of knowledge on the phenomena of co-seismicity in hydrology, a description of installed measuring system, and the first hydrographs registered for mining tremors with a local magnitude from 2.7 to 3.1, which occurred up to 3 km away from the location of piezometers.
