ported there by ice sheets from Scandinavia and some Baltic regions can be found. Sedimentary rocks, important to palaeontological studies, contain numerous fossils and, among others, arthropods. One of the most common rock types here is beyrichian limestone. Its fossil content allows us to recognize many varieties, such as Calymene limestone, Nucula limestone, Elevatus limestone and others. The present study concentrated mainly on trilobites found in these rocks and belonging to two genera: Calymene and Acaste.

The undertaken analytical steps have led to determination of the fluids trapped in inclusions as brine and/or hydrocarbons (based on fluorescence abilities). Furthermore, they have resulted in the measurement of the homogenization temperatures of inclusions (values positive for, e.g., oil, negative for methane, pure or with admixtures), and determinations of the eutectic and ice-melting temperatures of the aqueous inclusions. Thermometric studies in the heating mode generally lead to determination of temperatures of mineral crystallization since it has been assumed that the homogenization temperature of the primary aqueous inclusions represents a minimum temperature of fluid trapping during mineral precipitation. Complementary analyses, as the Raman spectrum analysis and studies on the organic matter, lead to the interpretation of the results richer, clearer and meaningful for the hydrocarbon systems context, what has been proved on some examples.

Preliminary petrographic and geochemical recognition of organic matter in Carboniferous rocks from Western Pomerania. Prz. Geol., 71: 224–226; doi: 10.7306/2023.18 A b s t r a c t. The paper presents results of organic petrography and Rock-Eval pyrolysis studies of Carboniferous rocks from Western Pomerania (N Poland). Samples for the studies were taken from core of the DŸwirzyno 3 borehole. The thermal maturity level of organic matter is determined by the values of: 1) vitrinite reflectance VR o = 0.82–0.93% and 2) T max = 431–460°C, which indicate oil window maturity. Organic petro- graphy studies have shown a presence of different macerals dispersed in the rocks studied. Vitrinite and inertinite are particles of humic origin, while most liptinite macerals are of aquatic provenance. The Rock-Eval data clearly indicate that the organic matter forms levels made up either of kerogen type III or of kerogen type II.
