Malaysia is located at equatorial region, which is from 3° to 8° South of the magnetic equator where equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs) frequently occur. EPBs could disrupt radio communication and navigational systems in this region. We present the two-dimensional structure of EPBs observed using GPS networks over South East Asia (SEA) near the equatorial region. 59 days with EPB structure were observed using GPS networks in 2011. The results show that; 1) the initial EPBs onset time occurs mostly after post-sunset between 1900 to 2100 local time (LT); 2) the duration of the occurrences of EPB is mostly from 3 to 6 hours; 3) the GPS networks in SEA region are able to observe east-west size of EPBs from 50 km to 650 km with accuracy +/- 50 km.

Second order polynomial approach has been used as filtering technique to smooth out the artificial steady state visual evoked potential (SSVEP) signal. Bhattacharyya distance (BD) is used as performance metric for evaluating the five different values of fundamental frequency, f, which are 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 Hz with constant length of sliding window, L. The results indicate that a small value of f compared to L will reduce the peak value of the fundamental frequency, f.

In this paper, a new nonlinear acoustic echo cancellation system is proposed, which utilizes adaptive 3rd-order Volterra filtering with a modified variable step-size GSPAP (VSS-GSPAP) algorithm. In particular, the proposed approach yields better echo cancellation performance than conventional VSS-NLMS methods in case of the double-talk situation in background noise. Simulation results demonstrate that, in addition to better AEC performance, the proposed one also yields faster convergence than the conventional VSS-NLMS.

In this paper, we propose a method for car accidents detection in parking lots. The proposed method consists of two steps. In the first step, a car is detected by foreground extraction and motion map. In the final step, a car accident is detected by the magnitude of motion along with moving direction of the car. Experimental results show that proposed method effectively detects car accidents in parking lots.

CAS used in IPTV and DTV was designed to transfer a single content through a single stream. But, if CAS is combined with SVC coding technique, it can be improved to support diverse video applications through a single streaming. In this paper, we analyze the issues that can occur if SVC is applied to CAS, and also propose SVC encryption module in the CAS environment. The proposed scheme's safety is guaranteed by the safety of the existing CAS and oneway hash function. Also, the proposed scheme has an advantage of relatively small overheads in the existing CAS.

In this paper, a new peak-to-average power ratio reduction method for spatial modulation is presented. This is done by multiplying an unitary precoder to modulated signals so that total transmit energy is uniformly scattered into all transmit antennas. When using an ideal amplifier, the proposed method guarantees performance identical with the conventional scheme due to the orthogonality of the precoder with almost same decoding complexity. When using a nonideal amplifier, the proposed method is shown to exhibit significant performance improvement, especially, for high input-back-off and a large number of antennas.

Signal transmission analysis of the SATA cable assembly based on 3-dimensional electromagnetic field simulation is performed in this work. The S-parameters of each component and the SATA cable assembly are calculated to investigate a better signaling in the high-speed interconnection applications. Each component presents the different frequency characteristics in the insertion loss and reflection loss. But, the printed circuit board degrades substantially the signal fidelity of the assembly. From these results, it is verified that the signal transmission properties of the SATA cable assembly are determined mainly by the lowest performance of its components.

Effective broadcast scheduling algorithms (BSAs) are needed to schedule in a time-division multiple-access (TDMA) frame for the orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) based wireless mesh networks. In this paper, we propose a new broadcast scheduling algorithm for subcarrier decomposition based wireless mesh networks designed from the MAC layer point of view.

We investigated drain current-gate voltage (ID-VG) and ID-time (t) characteristics in electrolyte-gated graphene field effect transistors (GFETs). The counterclockwise hysteresis appearing in ID-VG curves with fast sweeping rate is caused by the displacement current, and thus limits the operating speed of electrolyte-gated GFETs. By analyzing the ID-t characteristics of electrolyte-gated GFETs having different areas of the overlap between the gate and the source/drain electrodes, the effect of the parasitic capacitance (Cpara) on the displacement current is demonstrated. The characteristics of GFETs with metal gate are also reported to verify the effect of the Cpara.
