Isolation, Identification, and Biofloc Production: Potential of Floc-Forming Bacteria Using a Novel Monoculture Approach and Medium 分离、鉴定和生物絮凝物生产:使用新型单培养方法和培养基的絮状物形成细菌的潜力

Biofloc is one of the suitable alternatives for decreasing food costs and increasing the immunity of cultured organisms against pathogens and diseases. This research aims to isolate, identify, and screen bioflocculant bacterial candidates to optimize practices for enhanced water quality management. Twelve bacteria were obtained from incubated shrimp pond water. These bacteria were tested for their ability to produce biofloc using a newly developed combination of Biofloc Standard Mineral Water (BSMW) and Biofloc Standard Medium (BSM) in a laboratory setting, utilizing an Imhoff cone. A novel medium was used for the first time for identifying biofloc-producing bacteria. Strain KBF-103 exhibited rapid biofloc production within 24 hours, making it suitable for pond water application. Strain KBF-103 was identified using molecular via 16S rRNA sequencing and shows a close relation with the Bacillus cereus strain.

Dawadawa and Kantong Additives Improve the Growth and Health of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) Dawadawa和Kantong添加剂改善尼罗罗非鱼(Oreochromis niloticus)的生长和健康状况

A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of condiment on the growth and hematology of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), stocked at 15 fish per tank with an initial average weight of 3.11±0.25 g for 8 weeks in twelve 55 m2 circular tanks. Three experimental diets, such as Dawadawa, Kantong, and Dawakan additives, and a control diet were studied in triplicate in this trial. The growth performance and feed utilization showed significant differences (p<0.05) among the dietary treatments with SGR in the additives treatment, which ranged between 3.77±0.61 and 4.31±0.09, which was higher than the control treatment (3.69±0.63). The FCR of additive diets ranged between 1.55±0.00 and 1.65±1.0 and was lower compared to the control diet (1.67±0.00). The concentrations of white blood cells, red blood cells, hematocrit, and hemoglobin (P≤0.05) observed in the control group were lower compared to the group with an enhanced additives diet showing the best blood parameters. All in all, the fish-fed Dawadawa additive showed the best growth and health among treatments. There is, however, a need for further studies to observe the effect of the condiment on a challenged fish.

Influence of Silver Nanoparticle Supplementation on Growth Performance, Immune Response, Tissue Biopsy, and Gene Transcription in the Aeromonas carviae challenged Labeo rohita 补充纳米银对受到卡氏气单胞菌挑战的 Labeo rohita 的生长性能、免疫反应、组织活检和基因转录的影响

The study examined the impact of a diet enriched with nanosilver (AgNPs) on the specific immunity, tissue biopsy, and growth effectiveness of Labeo rohita infected with A. carviae. The fish were divided into four groups with replications, and three diets were prepared with AgNPs (0, 10, 15, and 20 μg AgNPs kg-1 diet) added. The fish in the 15μg kg-1 group showed improved growth rates and a 70% survival rate after being challenged with A. carviae. Antioxidant indices, as well as the non-specific immune response, provided notable variations in the inclusion values of AgNPs in the liver and gill. The supplementation of 15μgkg-1 AgNPs most effectively improved tissue damage caused by A. caviae exposure in immunoprotective organs. T3 had higher liver TNF-α transcription than other treatments, while T4 had the highest values for IL-10. The amount of IL-10 in kidneys, gills, and muscles was also higher in T3, T2 and T3 respectively. The research suggests that AgNPs can positively influence fish growth and manage A. caviae infections by boosting antioxidant status and immunity while causing minimal harm to the immunoprotective organs.

Two hundred (200) Coptodon zillii and Oreochromis niloticus (10g ±0.13) were subjected to an investigation to uncover the efficiency of crude and synthetic gossypol as reproduction bio-control agents. The treatment groups were five (5) altogether with twenty (20) fish per treatment (male and female 1:1). Each treatment was replicated twice and subjected to the same condition. The fish were fed with five isoproteic experimental diets of 37.5% crude protein for 90 days. In the diets, cottonseed meal (CSM) and synthetic gossypol (GSP) were used to replace soyabean meal (SBM) at 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% respectively. Histological sections of testes in O. niloticus and C. zillii showed a decline in spermatozoa with increasing inclusion of crude CSM and synthetic gossypol. Diets four and five which has the highest inclusion of both crude and synthetic gossypol (327g CSM/Kg diet, 436g CSM/Kg diet) exhibited spent and empty seminiferous lumina. Ovarian section in C. zillii and O. niloticus showed distortion with increasing inclusion rates of crude CSM and synthetic gossypol; to the point that most of the eggs were still in their early phases of embryonic formation after 90 days trial with prominent vitellogenic stages for 0% 0g (CSM/kg diet) and 25% (109 CSM/kg diet); atretic oocytes for 75% (327g CSM/Kg diet) and 100% (436g CSM/Kg diet). Milt and egg production of both O. niloticus and C. zillii all declined as the dietary inclusion of crude and synthetic gossypol increased. Overall results showed that dietary crude and synthetic gossypol destroyed the spermatocytes and oocytes; lumina was devoid of spermatozoa, subsequent reproduction was inhibited; the eggs were unable to finish their cytological cycles which would have led to fertilization. There were fewer offspring in crude gossypol-based diet treatments and there was no reproduction at all in all the synthetic gossypol-based diet treatments.

Efficacy of Oxolinic Acid Against Aeromonas hydrophila Infection in Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus Juveniles 氧喹啉酸对尼罗罗非鱼幼鱼嗜水气单胞菌感染的防治效果

Oxolinic acid (OA), a broad-spectrum quinolone antibiotic that plays a crucial role in human medicine, is often used in aquaculture as a second-line treatment at 12 mg/kg biomass/day continuously for seven days. The objective of this study was to assess its effectiveness against Aeromonas hydrophila infection in Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus in terms of progression and healing of wounds, clinical biochemistry and histopathological changes upon challenge and treatment. To evaluate the efficacy, the juveniles were intramuscularly challenged with A. hydrophila at a sublethal dose of 1.93×106 cells/fish, followed by the administration of OA-supplemented feed at 2% body weight daily for seven days. OA treatment yielded better consequences in terms of increased feed intake and biomass and decreased plasma biochemical parameters, histopathological changes and improved recovery from A. hydrophila infection compared to the untreated group. Wounds of the OA-treated group healed at a faster rate, with complete healing within 12 days post-injection, while the wounds of the untreated group took longer to heal. Though the efficacy of OA against A. hydrophila infection in tilapia was established in this study, it is important to exercise caution regarding its application in aquaculture due to its classification as a critically important medicine for humans.

Water Fern Azolla pinnata Extract as a Novel Organic Nutrient Source for the Cultivation of Spirulina Spirulina platensis 水蕨草皮提取物作为新型螺旋藻有机营养源的研究

This study aimed to observe the potentiality of azolla extract as a cost-effective organic medium. An 18-day culture experiment of Spirulina platensis was conducted using various percentages of dried azolla extract (DAE, 10-50%) or boiled azolla extract (BAE, 10-40%) in place of inorganic Kosaric medium (control). Growth, pigmentation, minerals and lipids contents of S. platensis cultured were recorded. Compared with the control, similar results were obtained in biomass concentration and specific growth rate when up to 40% KM was replaced with 40% DAE or 20% BAE. The mineral and lipid contents of S. platensis were unaffected by the replacement of KM with azolla extracts, except that Ca, Zn, and Fe concentrations increased as the replacement amount of KM with DAE and BAE increased. The KM had the highest chlorophyll a content. Similar findings were observed for chlorophyll a of the S. platensis in DAE40 and BAE20. It was concluded that KM could be partially replaced with DAE or BAE as the novel organic media for S. platensis cultivation, where DAE is better than BAE.

Climate change and sea-level rise cause seawater intrusion into freshwater ecosystems, risking increased salinity exposure for freshwater fish, endangering their long-term sustenance. To understand the effects of environmentally realistic increase in salinity exposure on freshwater fish, a total of 120 banded gourami, Trichogaster fasciata ( 8.54 g average initial weight) were exposed to four different salinities (0, 3, 6, and 9‰) for 90 days. The weight gain and specific growth rate values were significantly higher in the fish exposed to 3‰ compared to 0‰, and the lowest feed conversion ratio and survival rate were recorded in 3‰ and 9‰, respectively. The blood glucose and hemoglobin contents were found to be significantly higher and lower at 9‰ after 30 and 60 days, respectively, relative to 0‰. Moreover, significant low red blood cell counts were found at 6 and 9‰ after 30 and 90 days, respectively. Whereas, the white blood cell counts showed an opposite trend. Abnormalities of erythrocyte shape were significantly higher at 9‰, compared to 0‰. Results suggest that long-term exposure to high salinity (6, and 9‰) would cause osmotic stress and impair the physiological performance of freshwater gourami.

Globally, the quality and high cost of fish feed are vital issues for the development of sustainable aquaculture and food security. Present study was investigated in 4 treatments to find out the compatible species combination for polyculture using Asian watergrass as natural feed for fish in the tidally flooded coastal wetlands for a period of 6 months. Grass carp, common carp, tilapia, mrigal and silver barb were stocked in different species combination with an identical density of 12500 fish ha-1. In all treatments, grass carp and common carp were commonly stocked but other 3 species were disparate to stock among the treatments. Important water quality parameters were monitored those were suitable and acceptable range for aquaculture. The survival of fishes varied from 66.7±8.3 to 91.2±2.9% irrespective of fish species. The total fish production was found significantly higher (p<0.05), 5579.04±238.74 kg ha-1 in T3 followed by 4582.21±200.01 kg ha-1 in T2, 4571.52±189.78 kg ha-1 in T4 and 4448.37±247.26 kg ha-1 in T1 respectively. The results demonstrate that the combination of grass carp, common carp, tilapia, and silver barb in T3 was ideal compatible species for polyculture in coastal wetlands. This technique should be applied in haor, baor, beel, canals, and other water-logged areas pervaded by climate changes.

17-α methyl testosterone is a major endocrine disrupting chemical (EDCs), reported harmful effect on endocrine system of aquatic animals. To study the impact of 17-αMT on olive barb (Puntius sarana) gonad, sixty fishes were collected for in vitro experiment. Hormonal treatments were carried out 90 days with three distinct hormonal dosages (T1:40 mg/kg; T2:60 mg/kg and T3:90 mg/kg) mixed with pelleted feed and no hormone in control tank (C). Each 30 days intervals, histological analysis was performed to observe alterations in the gonad due to the effect of 17α-MT. Four gamete developmental stages of female P. sarana ovary were identified through microscopic examination named immature, previtellogenic, vitellogenic and mature stage. Mild to moderate histological abnormalities has been observed in ovary for different treatments. T1 showed apparently normal histology except some alterations like empty follicle (ef), lipid droplet (ld), vitelline envelop breakdown (veb), but pronounced alterations were detected at higher concentration T2 and T3, increasing with longer exposures for instance degenerated nucleus (dn), atretic follicle (af), thickened vitelline envelop (tve), residual oocyte (roc). This preliminary study revealed more profound responses to EDCs exposure in the olive barbs which could serve as a model bio-indicator in ecotoxicological study.

The Relationship between Economic Growth and Fisheries Production in Türkiye 浙江经济增长与渔业生产的关系

There is a lack of understanding of the fisheries production impact on the national economy, as the contribution of the industry to the Turkish economy has not been adequately reflected in the official Gross Domestic Product (GDP) statistics and economic research. Therefore, this paper aims to reveal the industry`s contribution to Türkiye's economic growth. We analysed the effect of fisheries production on economic growth by employing the Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model from 1990-2019. The results showed a positive relationship between fisheries production and economic growth in the long-term. We hope this paper will support the policy-makers and development agencies in their efforts to reshape the industry in Türkiye towards an increased role in economic development in a sustainable manner.
