Efficient static checking of dynamic access control in shared multiprocessor environments 共享多处理器环境下动态访问控制的有效静态检查

Large parallel-processing systems are necessary for the highest performance levels but economically wasteful if the investment in hardware, building space, electricity and manpower is not compensated by the possibility of network- and/or node-sharing. When such a system is shared by multiple users, mandatory access control (MAC) becomes a critical necessity. Considering the limitations of previous access control solutions, Toinard et al. have proposed a meta-policy approach whereby a statically-checked global policy controls dynamic changes to individual access rights. This approach combines the flexibility of decentralized and dynamic changes granted to users with the need for a global overview of information flow. This paper proposes an algorithmic solution harnessing the parallel-processing systempsilas own processing power.

This paper discusses the topics of complex systems, complex adaptive systems, and complex problems. For network-centric warfare (NCW) using complex systems, it is necessary to develop collaborative technological systems that function within a cybernetic organismic network (CON) according to holistic systems engineering and nonlinear stochastic processes. Consequently, there are differences between how issues and problems are processed. Issues are people-oriented problems that interfere with technology development. Problems are related to technology itself and can be more easily resolved. To develop collaborative technology systems that function within a CON and perform NCW requires holistic systems engineering and nonlinear reasoning about agents thinking, learning, and adapting accordingly.

The development of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) projects in collaborative and distributed environments requires facilities to search for, choose, set-up, compose and execute suitable data manipulation tools. This implies the necessity to explicitly represent and annotate different kinds of information about tools, data and their characteristics. In this framework, we are developing a service-oriented support platform called Knowledge Discovery in Databases Virtual Mart. In this paper we discuss the design and implementation of the UDDI service broker, a core element of the platform. We analyze the information needed to describe a tool in our platform, showing limitations of the present UDDI standard. Then, we present our solution to overcome such limitations and to extend UDDI broker capabilities.

Layered sensing — A collaboration technology challenge 分层传感——协作技术的挑战

This tutorial describes the basic principles of layered sensing and example technical innovations required in collaboration technologies for sensing and exploitation are presented. The presentation will focus on key areas that include, but are not necessarily restricted to, integration of sensing, processing, exploitation, and control with: distributed systems engineering and architectures; knowledge mining, modeling and simulation for a secure sensor web and global grid; advanced visualization; and human/computer interaction issues.

Bringing AJAX to grid portals 将AJAX引入网格门户

Grid portals provide researchers the power of grid through Web browsers. Today these portals are mostly Java-based and therefore the Java Portlet specification 1.0 (JSR 168) has been widely adopted. Acting as Web components, portlets wrap relatively independent individual functionalities like grid proxy credential management and job submission. These components can then be aggregated for construction of portal pages. One of the key issues grid portals are facing now is that they are not as attractive as desktop applications because they lack instant response and complex visual effects. To address this, we are going to investigate asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX). AJAX is becoming increasingly popular in the Web development community, in particular, it is one of the key aspects of todaypsilas Web 2.0. In this paper, we will discuss how grid portals can benefit from AJAX so that more end-users could be attracted.

Secured architecture for remote virtual desktops 远程虚拟桌面的安全架构

Clustered collaborative architecture brings serious security challenges. One of these collaborative solution is a remote desktop that provides a virtual graphical environment through a network displayed on a thin client. As several thin clients access to the same host, conflicts or non interference problems can raise. Although techniques exist for improving security of a host, few papers present how to secure a remote desktop architecture. This paper describes how to provide for this architecture a good level of security with strong authentication, Single Sign On, anomaly and intrusion detection systems. In particular, a correlation system checks that each remote user session have a valid behaviour. Load balancing aspects are discussed through the study of a new algorithm to distribute the server load generated by remote users.

This paper reports specifically on the architectural and design issues associated with the development of Web portal that will act as a conceptual platform of online utilities that enable users to collaboratively author and manage cultural resources in the globally distributed environment, featuring a Web-based portal with multifaceted interfaces that can additionally be utilised as an educational and pedagogical tool delivering a virtual expedition. The project combines in a novel manner the research and exploitation of cutting edge technologies of ontology engineering for semantic Web and distributed content management.

This paper presents the Peer2Me framework that enables developers to create mobile peer-to-peer applications. The framework provides an API that is easy to adopt, yet capable of creating advanced peer-to-peer applications. The framework was built to provide applications providing pure peer-to-peer network where all nodes have the same responsibility and services. Further, the framework provides services to transparently manage the detection of new and lost peers. The message component of the framework makes it possible to exchange any kind of data between peers including Java objects. The Peer2Me has been implemented in Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) and runs on standard mobile phones. The framework supports management and communication of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) like Bluetooth. The paper describes the architecture, the API and some of the applications developed using the Peer2Me framework. Further, we share and discuss experiences from developing mobile peer-to-peer applications.

The consolidation of existing modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) environments into a single object-oriented environment under the Air Force Integrated Collaborative Environment (AF-ICE) program has created a need for a framework to support cross domain interoperability for a heterogeneous mix of platforms and tools. The integrated information framework (I2F) was established to provide the services and resources necessary to support this interoperability between collaborative enterprise solutions utilized throughout the lifecycle of large scale live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) events. The I2F provides a focused virtual work environment tying together people and assets necessary to support various MS&A activities and includes an interoperable document management system, a community of practice knowledge sharing capability, adaptive MS&A event management process workflows/descriptions, and an adaptive, knowledge database/repository. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of I2F and its key concepts, an explanation of the concept of operations for distributed document management between collaborative systems, and information regarding the development of the initial operating capabilities realized through the specification of an interoperability services framework that standardizes communication between the I2F and collaborative systems.

P2PCompute: A Peer-to-peer computing system P2PCompute:点对点计算系统

Peer-to-peer (P2P) networks consist of nodes where the communication and data sharing is carried on directly between nodes, rather than being arbitrated by an intermediary node. Each node in such a network can act as both a client and a server. The computing power from such a network can help solve computationally complex problems that require powerful supercomputers. This research proposes P2PCompute - a viable commercial model in the P2P computing field. It harnesses existing technologies including P2P, Java, and the universal description, discovery, and integration (UDDI) registry to enable distributed processing of tasks on multiple servers. It is well-suited to the heterogeneous environment on the Internet and can lead to the development of more commercial P2P computing applications. Using this model, clients can divide their tasks into sub-tasks and request servers on the Internet to run these sub-tasks.
