Thulium doped fiber laser operating at 2 μM region 工作在2 μM区域的掺铥光纤激光器

All-fiber Tm3+-doped silica fiber laser operating at 2 μm region was demonstrated. The wavelength of the fiber laser can be selected from 1925 nm to 2200 nm by using different fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) as wavelength selection elements. By employing a FBG arrays in the laser cavity, six switchable lasing wavelengths were achieved. The presented fiber laser can be useful for dense wavelength division multiplexing systems.

A silicon optical diode enables optical non-reciprocity through direction-dependent resonance shift of microrings based on the thermo-optic effectin silicon. We observe an ultra-high nonreciprocal transmission ratio of 40 dB with an improved design of the optical diode. One-way 10Gbps data transmission is realized based on the strong dispersion and attenuation associated with a resonant structure.

A microwave photonic system with switchable functions based on cascaded polarization modulators 基于级联偏振调制器的可切换功能微波光子系统

A novel scheme based on two cascaded polarization modulators (PolMs) is proposed to implement optical-single-sideband modulation (OSSB) with tunable carrier-to-sideband ratio (OCSR) and a microwave photonic phase shifter. Switching between the two functions can be realized by adjusting the DC bias of the second PolM. An experiment is carried out. OSSB modulated signals with an operation bandwidth from 5 to 35 GHz are achieved and two OSSB modulated signals with tunable OCSRs from -26 to 46 dB and from -25 to 55 dB are demonstrated. When the system is switched to be a microwave photonic phase shifter, a full 360 degree phase tuning range can be realized. The proposed scheme features a compact structure and dual switchable functions, which may find applications in microwave photonics.

Virtual machine migration techniques for managing time-varied workloads 用于管理时变工作负载的虚拟机迁移技术

This paper studies the virtual machine migration problem under dynamic traffic environment in data centers, while considering the tradeoff among resource utilization, energy consumption, and migration frequency. We use the service level agreement (SLA) soft threshold model to avoid frequent peak migrations at the migration trigger point. In the source virtual machine selection process, the maximum relevance is considered during the virtual machines selection method to improve resource coupling. In the destination server selection, the multi-resource relevance and matching method is used to solve the coupling problem of a single resource and the matching problem of a variety of resources. The simulation results show the proposed algorithm can improve the utilization rate of server resources to reduce power consumption and ensure system stability by reducing migration times. We also show that compared to existing techniques the algorithm used in this study can better adapt to dynamic changes of workloads.

New low-complexity but effective mitigation for penalties from in-band crosstalk of multicore fiber with advanced modulation formats 采用先进调制格式的新型低复杂度但有效的多芯光纤带内串扰补偿

We have modeled the intercore crosstalk of multicore fiber and proposed an effective method for mitigating the penalties from the crosstalk. Employing the same local oscillator to hybrid with signals in different cores and taking advantage of the estimated phase information of the signal in other cores, the SNR penalty is reduced below 1dB for any core of MCF with QPSK signals before the crosstalk approaches the threshold value where cycle slip occurs, and for 16QAM signal, the crosstalk tolerance has been increased by at most 10dB at 1dB SNR penalty for both inner core and outer core.

Wang's nonlinear companding scheme is investigated here for the first time for CO-OFDM transmissions. As a result of an optimal predistortion function design, we demonstrate a 3 dB BER advantage for a system employing a Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA).

Crosstalk caused by fiber nonlinear polarization rotation in DP-QPSK systems DP-QPSK系统中光纤非线性极化旋转引起的串扰

The crosstalk caused by fiber nonlinear polarization rotation in Dual-Polarization QPSK (DP-QPSK) system is analyzed, and 100Gbps system is simulated. The results show that the one channel will produce a crosstalk and a ghosting in constellation to another channel, and the rotated angle of crosstalk constellation is proportional to the intensity of influencing signal. When the total input power is less than 4mW, the crosstalk effect can be neglected, otherwise when the total power is more than 20mW, the crosstalk is very obvious. In addition, the crosstalk can't be monitored according to the output eye diagram and SOP in Poincare Sphere in trunk fiber, that make it difficult for the monitoring of optical trunk link.

Theoretical demonstration of light injection into the communication fibre 光注入通信光纤的理论论证

With the rapid development of the technology of optical communication, the security in it has attracted more and more people's attention and even has become a critical component of national security. Compared with the traditional telecommunication, optical communication is regarded as a kind of secure communication because optical fiber, transmission medium of it, is immune to the typical issues of electromagnetic interference (EMI)/radio-frequency interference (RFI). However, the essential characteristics of the optical fiber make it vulnerable to a variety of attacks, including physical infrastructure attacks, eavesdropping, interception, and jamming. In this paper, we proposed a new model to inject the light into a communication fiber without damaging the cladding or core of it. From numberical calculation, the power of injected optical signal can reach to more than 20% of the input power. This level of injected signal is sufficient to interfere with the signal transported in the communication. So measures to combat this kind of inference and deception should be taken.

An analysis of optimized CapEx for multi-core fiber based optical networks 基于多芯光纤的光网络优化资本支出分析

In this article, we investigate the costs of optical network Capital Expenditure (CapEx) components which include fiber, optical amplifier (OA), cable and conduit. The CapEx of high-capacity optical network under given traffic requests is optimized, and results are analyzed to evaluate the influences of Multi-core Fiber (MCF) communication system on the components of optical network CapEx. To solve the optimization problem, network CapEx is modelled and an integer linear programming (ILP) formulation is proposed. Numerical results show that by using MCF communication system, optical network CapEx can be reduced significantly. The cost of OA takes the largest proportion of the network CapEx, and can be reduced by deploying MCF communication system to optical networks. Fiber density can be increased by using MCF, thus decreasing the costs of cable and conduit.

The CapEx of high-capacity optical network under given traffic requests is optimized, and results are analyzed to evaluate the influences of Multi-core Fiber (MCF) communication system on the components of optical network CapEx. To solve the optimization problem, network CapEx is modelled and an integer linear programming (ILP) formulation is proposed. Numerical results show that by using MCF communication system, optical network CapEx can be reduced significantly. The cost of OA takes the largest proportion of the network CapEx, and can be reduced by deploying MCF communication system to optical networks. Hybrid access network architecture for datacenter based on asynchronous optical packet switching 基于异步光分组交换的数据中心混合接入网架构

A hybrid interconnected access network architecture based on asynchronous optical-packet-switching (AOPS) technology is presented for application of the datacenter. AOPS is adopted for processing burst services and enhancing switching efficiencies, and the ring-mesh hybrid interconnection can improve the datacenter scalability with survivability function. Optical switching array and all-optical tunable delay lines (AOTDLs) are used to resolve contention, to reduce system time delay and packet loss ratio (PLR) as well as to enlarge throughput. Distributed control management alleviates the pressure of computing and storing. The simulation models for PLR and time delay in the datacenter are set up, which have been approved to be efficient in the asynchronous variant self-similar traffic. And the PLR increases with increasing traffic load while decreases with the larger buffer granularity and time delay increases with increasing traffic and the larger buffer granularity.
针对数据中心的应用,提出了一种基于异步光分组交换(AOPS)技术的混合互联接入网架构。采用AOPS处理突发业务,提高交换效率,环网混合互联可提高数据中心的可扩展性和生存性功能。采用光交换阵列和全光可调延迟线(aotdl)解决争用问题,降低系统时延和丢包率,提高吞吐量。分布式控制管理减轻了计算和存储的压力。建立了数据中心PLR和时延的仿真模型,验证了该模型在异步变型自相似业务中的有效性。PLR随业务量的增加而增大,随缓冲粒度的增大而减小,时延随业务量的增加和缓冲粒度的增大而增大。
