ABSTRACTThis study explores transformative shifts in rural family and family relationship amid 21stcentury dynamics. Analyzing the impact of modernity and globalization, the research delves into the transition from traditional joint families to nuclear units. A triangulation method is followed to explore the objectives where a total of 120 respondents were interviewed using survey method for quantitative data through simple random sampling and Key Informative Interview to gather qualitative data from two villages of Chandpur district. A theoretical framework has been developed to understand the study concept more precisely. Findings reveal a preference for nuclear families driven by economic advancements, migration, individualism, and media influence. The study highlights the roles of economic opportunity; women's empowerment, education, and internet accessibility accelerate the transformation of traditional family and family relationship. Changes in household authority are observed, with both spouses participating in decision making. Challenges arising from evolving family systems, including moral decay and marital disputes, are discussed. Finally, this study demonstrates that the changing nature is being observed in rural family pattern of Bangladesh.

New National and International Processes of Human Dimensions of the Environmental Rights

Due to activities such as illegal deforestation, production of chemicals and plastics, exploitation of fossil fuels, and other large-scale extractive activities, businesses operating in the global economy routinely compromise human rights to have a healthy, clean, and sustainable environment. This human right was recognized by the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2021 and it includes fundamental rights related to clean air, safe climate, access to safe water and adequate sanitation, healthy and sustainable food production, informal environments for living and working, studying and playing, and biodiversity and a healthy ecosystem. By jeopardizing this human right related to nature, life, health, livelihood, and sustainable development, business activists threaten the life prospects of billions of people. The most vulnerable beneficiaries affected by commercial activities such as children, women, indigenous peoples, local communities, farmers, people with disabilities, and especially those whose identity exists in multiple vulnerable groups usually face the most difficult barriers, including financial, language, information barriers, social labeling associated with human rights violations, lack of access to legal representation, and corruption of law enforcement officials, to adopt effective solutions. When victims in countries with limited law enforcement and economic capacity face corruption and other weaknesses in the rule of law, and when justice must be served through transnational legal actions that are beyond the capacity of most human rights victims, solutions effectively are particularly elusive.

Pub Date : 2023-12-29 DOI: 10.34104/ajssls.023.02770290
This study aims to assess the role and contributions of the History and Classical Art Department of Bangladesh National Museum in the context of acquisition and preservation of history and heritage of Bengal through analysis of gathered artifacts. This study adopts a comprehensive analytical approach, employing both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The primary data sources include interviews with museum visitors, focus group discussions involving visitors and stakeholders, and key informant interviews with experts and specialists. Secondary data sources consist of museum visitors’ comment books, previous stakeholders’ opinions, and comment books from mobile exhibitions. Additionally, this research seeks to identify potential avenues of future growth and development within the department. The research has unraveled multifaceted role of the department’s key artifacts, namely coins, sculptures, architecture and inscriptions in forming and preserving history. The FGD and KII responses have yielded insightful feedback on the role of these artifacts in ensuring the continuation of history. The responses from the survey, FGD, KII and comments from the content analysis reveal the degree of fascination visitors harbor for the liberation war galleries. Many of these responses have suggested the liberation war gallery is successful in instilling the sense of patriotism among its visitors and inspiring them to cherish the spirit of liberation. The recommendations of this article offer avenues for the museum to further excel and contribute to the preservation of our cultural heritage.

Consumer Legal Rights Protection in the Era of E-commerce in Bangladesh
Pub Date : 2023-11-25 DOI: 10.34104/ajssls.023.02300234
E-commerce means electronic commerce which is based on the internet and creates a link up with companies or individual buyers and sellers for selling goods or services. Consumer rights mean the practice of security of buyers and sellers of goods and services. In the online business here, consumers have no opportunity to be directly touched by the products. For example, a person who wants to eat pizza or cake can easily order it online. Moreover, in general, people buy clothes, plants, and other household items or anything easily bought from an online market. As a result, the seller gets the address of the consumers. Here, consumers can face harmful situations anytime, even if they lose their security and privacy to e-commerce. For an inappropriate law as a consumer, he can’t get a proper remedy. Sometimes the seller also faces harassment from the consumer. I point out the significance of consumer rights which have needed legal protection and as a seller, he also needs proper remedy according to law. In our country, the government fixes some regulations but without proper law, it’s not possible to ensure consumer rights. The ancient consumer protection act won’t be effective in the present era.

Family Violence Negatively Affects All Family Members Involved
Pub Date : 2023-11-23 DOI: 10.34104/ajssls.023.02240229
Family violence includes violence that occurs between family members- parents, intimate partners, siblings or family members of multiple generations, and grandparents. Witnessing family violence refers to situations in which a child witnesses frequent and prolonged verbal or physical violence between parents or other family members. Family violence is considered to be all threatening, coercive or controlling actions used by one family member towards another. Family violence may occur between two or several family members, but it inevitably affects all members of that family. Although child abuse and domestic violence are separated as forms of violence, it is important to point out that they are usually not mutually exclusive. Therefore, a child should be considered a victim, even if he is not the primary victim, when he hears or witnesses constant arguments or physical violence between parents or other family members. In these situations, it is considered that the child is experiencing mental or emotional abuse, which is why he has an increased risk of becoming violent himself. In addition, both the child and the adult may hold themselves responsible for the violent behavior, especially if the perpetrator of the violent behavior convinces them of this. Given that they are in a situation that requires the help of other people, and because of their own responsibility that they feel even though it does not exist, health and psychological difficulties or an anxiety disorder may appear that greatly disrupt the daily life of people who experience violence and thus prevent them from working what they would like.

Child Rights in Bangladesh: A Comparative Analysis on National and International Legal Framework
Pub Date : 2023-11-18 DOI: 10.34104/ajssls.023.02080223
Child rights are always ignored through the ages irrespective of the national or international arena. Children are most susceptible to all types of vices and victimizations, and so intensive care is required for their protection. Although there are many national and international laws for the protection of children’s rights but these are not above criticism. Child abuse is a common and frequent thing in Bangladesh. The United Nations set forth some rules for protection of children’s rights. Being a member state, United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)-1989, is trying to protect children from abuse but it cannot be suppressed in any way. This paper is an attempt to show the actual socio-economic scenario of the children in Bangladesh and show a roadmap regarding how to protect the child rights. Additionally, this paper examines the National and International Legal Framework where children’s rights are protected and traces various causes for violation of these rights.

Present Conditions and Ensuring Rule of Laws at Local Level: A Case Study on Village Court
Pub Date : 2023-11-16 DOI: 10.34104/ajssls.023.01890207
This study examines, with particular attention to the Union Parishad in Bangladesh, what constitutes a critical role played by village courts when it comes to ensuring basic rule of law at grassroots level. Since there are no administrative units at village level, the rural local governance structure is driven by UPMs. The Village Court system established under the Gram Adalat (Village Court) Ordinance of 1976 and formalized through the Village Court Act of 2006, serves as a statutory formal court designed to alleviate the hardships faced by the rural poor within the formal judicial system. In order to increase justice delivery in rural areas and improve the resolution of disputes through Salish means, this research looks at how the village court has evolved since its inception in the late 1970s. The Bangladesh’s government has initiated a project called "Activating village courts" with support from the UNDP and the EU in order to reinforce its rural court system. The study, which was carried out in three unions at the Netrokona District, used a combination of methods on as approach to use both quantitative and Qualitative data obtained by Structured and Unstructured Surveys. The findings of the study are followed up by a set of recommendations and initiatives aiming to strengthen the ability of village courts to ensure rule of law at local level. The findings of this research show that village courts are playing a critical role in the Redemption of justice services effectively in rural Bangladesh, which emphasised their importance to broader efforts to encourage access to justice and democratic rights at grass roots level.

Environmental Crimes and Judicial Response in the Context of Bangladesh
Pub Date : 2023-08-25 DOI: 10.34104/ajssls.023.01180124
The environmental spectrum in Bangladesh is exceedingly vulnerable. The norm of environmental crimes in this country is prolific. Environmental crimes have skyrocketed over the decades and it is an area of increasing concern. This concern is not owing to its globalized nature but these green criminal activities have extensive impacts that are beyond the capacity of the justice system that comprehend and address accordingly. Hence, a question can be raised, How would criminal justice agencies, specifically the global South mitigate these alarming environmental threats? This paper takes Bangladesh's case into account and illustrates a range of examples of anthropogenic activities that are horrendously destroying ecological biodiversity and polluting the green landscape in this country. This paper also reviews these prolific crimes and environmental harms in line with the environmental law, and activities of the law enforcement agencies and environmental agencies in Bangladesh.
