This article investigates the fairness of the existing business model of advertisement blocking and ad exchange companies by using exchange frameworks and equity theory. It then provides an individual-centric approach for an ad exchange, which aims to provide a fair compensation to individuals in exchange for their information and effort in the targeting and viewing/filtering of online advertisements. In this article, it is shown that by providing a higher value proposition to individuals in an online advertisement ecosystem, the ad exchange can not only increase individuals' equity in the system, but it can also mitigate the threat of ad blocking for publisher websites and advertisers. An efficient algorithm that estimates the monetary impact of the proposed approach and determines a fair monetary incentive—compensation—for individuals' personal information and actions—engagement—is presented in this article.

This article describes how rank aggregation focuses on synthesizing a single ranked list based on rankings supplied by multiple judges. Such aggregations are widely applied in the areas of information retrieval, web search, and data mining. The problem of rank aggregation has been shown to be NP-hard and this article presents a heuristic approach to create an aggregated ranking score for all items on the lists. The proposed heuristic is scalable and performs. A computational study, as well as a real-life study involving the ranking of 147 engineering colleges in the US is presented to elucidate the performance. The authors' key finding is that the quality of the solution is sensitive to (a) the number of judges available to rank, (b) how the items are assigned to judges, and (c) how consistent/inconsistent the judges are. All these factors are generally considered exogenous in most of the rank aggregation algorithms in extant literature.

This article quantifies the impact of retailer generated content, such as information, comparisons, and reviews, which may not be helpful to the consumer. The article uses 42,636 reviews spanning 44 products that offer different combinations of the three-aforementioned retailer generated content to isolate the impact of each. Our results indicate that such content cannot replace the utility of the review but can make a significant contribution towards satisfying the consumers need for information and help. The results also indicate that the information contained in such retailer generated content is more important for search and less so for experience goods. These results have important implications for an online retailer or review platform investing in content creation and management.

The purpose of this article is to evaluate the impact of ecosystems on Information Security in Smart Cities using Dubai as a case study. Innovative interconnected systems can affect the integrity of the information used by residents and citizens if not properly secured. The case study research method was used to examine the impact of the Internet of Everything on secure information exchanges. Data collected from the case study was used to assess the smartness of the urban development in managing its communication processes and information assets in a secure and confidential manner. The limitations of the study are found in its focus on one single city. By evaluating processes used to obtain information from interconnected systems, steps can be taken that would help to reduce threats in thriving innovative urban environments. The findings support the theory and perceptions held by management practitioners and information security specialists.

This article evaluates the accessibility computer laboratories, libraries, and web sites of five different institutions of higher education in Jordan. The evaluation is performed using a questionnaire and by expert visiting these institutions of higher education to check their accessibility according to a set of universal standard collected from the literature. The analysis of the results revealed a serious weakness in understanding, adopting and implementing web accessibility guidelines throughout nearly all evaluated Jordanian universities and colleges. On the other hand, the accessibility of computer laboratories and libraries the questionnaire answers show that there is environmental barrier and technological barrier for persons with disabilities to access such services. The article points out the importance of improving awareness, training staff and developers, and developing formal guidelines to improve the accessibility of universities and colleges services.

In response, to little research focused on how Jordanians perceive and respond to m-commerce and the main factors that govern its adoption and use, this article proposes a conceptual model that extends the technology acceptance model TAM with important factors related to consumers and companies like perceived trust, perceived security, subjective norms and service quality. The proposed model was validated and then tested utilizing a sample of 200 students. Results indicate that a perceived ease of use, a perceived usefulness and service quality are the major drivers of m-commerce adoption among Jordanian users. In contrast perceived trust, perceived security, and subjective norms are not significant toward the adoption process. A detailed analysis and results follows this article.

Over the last few years, a plethora of public works have taken place, focusing towards urban renewal, in the greater Thessaloniki district. Municipality of Thessaloniki, provided data for twelve public projects of urban renewal. Mathematical models have been proposed for cost and time prediction based on regression analysis. Furthermore, the Fast Artificial Neural Network (FANN Tool) was applied, to predict the duration and the final cost of the project, using volume of earthwork, as input variable. Both approaches could facilitate project stakeholders, to forecast the projects' final delivery date and cost and provide early warnings for any deviation from the initial budget. The results indicate that neural networks perform better than regression analysis' models, in the case of urban renewal projects.
