The State Public Historical Library of Russia is storing some significant 18th and 19th century Lithuanian publications related with Prussian Lithuania. They include a copy of the first edition (1825) of the first collection of Lithuanian folk songs Dainos oder Litthauische Volkslieder (en. Dainos [lt. Songs] or Lithuanian Folk Songs) by Martin Ludwig Rhesa (1776–1840) which used to belong to one of reviewers of this publication. On the grounds of the provenience inscriptions, the article is striving to establish the former owners of the copy of the first ever Lithuanian collection of songs and to discuss some of the Lithuanian culture publications related with Prussian Lithuania stored at the Russian Historical Library. The full list of the Lituanistics related publications and their library classification sygnatures are presented in the Annex to this article.

The article discusses the sources used by the national Lithuanian historian Simonas Daukantas (1793–1864) which determined the inclusion of Odin in the ranks of Lithuanian/Baltic cultural heroes in the work BUDĄ Senowęs-Lëtuwiû Kalnienû ĩr Ƶámajtiû (en. The Character of the Ancient Lithuanians–Highlanders and Lowlanders, 1845). The first source discussed is the article “De l’ère primitive des législations sacerdotales” (“On the legislative power of the priests of primeval times”) published in the magazine “Le Catholique” in 1826, on which S. Daukantas mainly relied when discussing the figure of Odin. Upon investigation, this source does not consider Odin to be the hero of the Baltic people, either. It is speculated that S. Daukantas was impressed by the laconic biography of Odin and the note added at the end that the royal families of Saxony and Denmark, the Merovingian dynasty and the Lombard princes included Odin in their genealogy. S. Daukantas analogously states that Odin is also a Lithuanian hero because, even ‘now’, there are people with the surname Odinas living in Lithuania and Samogitia. Actually, S. Daukantas’s mother was née Odinaitė.This article further discusses two other sources: Geschichte Preußens (1827, vol. 1) by Johannes Voigt (1786–1863), and Geschichte von Littauen, Kurland und Liefland (1785) by Ludwig Albrecht Gebhardi (1735–1802). It was determined that only J. Voigt briefly indicated that Odin founded Asgard near Daugava. S. Daukantas adopted this opinion in his work.On February 12, 1845, in a letter to Teodoras Narbutas (1784–1864), S. Daukantas reproached him for not including Odin in the ranks of Lithuanian cultural heroes and mentioned Le Catholique and Jntrodukcyi Maleta do historyi Dunskiej as important sources for the research pertaining to the possible Baltic origins of Odin. This inspires a hypothesis that S. Daukantas made a mistake in specifying the name of the Swiss-born historian Paul Henri Mallet because he did not write about Odin as a Lithuanian/Baltic hero in his work on Danish history. The article investigates which author’s introduction to a book on Danish history led S. Daukantas to a belief that he found information about the Lithuanian/Baltic Odin. It must have been an authoritative historian because S. Daukantas did not change his opinion about Odin when he wrote Pasakojimas apej Wejkałus Lietuwiû tautos senowie (Stories about Events in Ancient Lithuania, 1850) and emphasized that Northern writers refer to Odin as having lived and worked in Lithuania. After getting acquainted with Peter Friedrich Suhm’s introduction (Einleitung oder kritische Muthmaſsungen über die teste Abstammung und Geschichte der Nordischen Nation) to Geschichte der Dänen (1803), the study reaches the conclusion that it determined S. Daukantas’s decision about Odin’s Baltic origins. It is likely that an interdisciplinary study of the figure of Odin would finally allow us to confirm or reject this belief of S. Daukantas.
S.Daukantas在他的作品中采纳了这一观点。

Cultural periodicals, as a specific part of the field of culture and publishing, can be studied in several directions: 1) by analysing the conceptual aspect of cultural periodicals, i.e., realisation of their cultural functions; 2) by taking into account the general models of publishing periodicals; 3) by analysing other aspects of publishing that are specific to cultural periodicals only, for example, the specific features of funding. This article analyses how the cultural functions of national periodicals were realised in the context of the virtualisation of cultural periodicals in the period under research (in 2000–2015). (In this article, the virtualisation of cultural publications is understood as the transfer of cultural periodicals (magazines, newspapers) into the virtual space or their creation in that space (blogs, portals, social networks)). Cultural periodicals as a part of the cultural field were relevant in the period under research: 1. It is relevant to transmit and preserve cultural information (in this case, the communicative link between the cultural message and the cultural space and the lasting value of cultural texts); 2. To form new addressees to receive the cultural message (each publication brings together its own audience and thus complements the overall cultural field, thus attracting new readers by disseminating cultural information); 3. To actualise the message being sent through more diverse channels (the importance of internationality), to expand the possibilities of accessibility and availability of cultural texts; changes in the media (social networks, portals, websites) have created a broader, more modern and more diverse cultural field of communication. Between the years 2000 and 2015, media change gradually turned into a necessity. First of all, it was undertaken as a way to reach more readers. Due to the specific content, cultural publications were moderate in their approach to the changes in form during the period under analysis: to maintain a high-quality printed version was a priority to them. On the other hand, cultural publications, although not always willingly, began to recognize the importance of the Internet and to consider it as a platform for disseminating cultural information. This aspect became an important turning point in the publishing of cultural periodicals.

Researchers have been observing the deteriorating deep reading skills among pupils and highlighting the necessity to nurture them. Yet the concept of what ‘reading’ means (and ‘deep reading’ in particular) seems elusive. Deep reading may be interpreted in a number of ways. The difference in the notion of what constitutes deep reading calls for a closer investigation, with the view to delineating the two concepts. By drawing on the theoretical framework of Self-Determination Theory and Transportation theory, the article analyses two different approaches to deep reading in the light of a the recent draft curriculum of the Lithuanian language and literature for grades 5–12 of high school in Lithuania. The analysis has revealed that the current draft seems to be less focused on promoting the first type of deep reading associated with the deep emotional engagement (and hence higher levels of internal motivation) with literary texts. It is rather focused on the second type of deep reading that seeks to engage cognitive processes (and is more related to external motivation). Irrespective of the fact that the draft curriculum does make references to concepts associated with deep emotional involvement of readers (such as the pleasure of reading), this type of deep reading is not the main focus of the new curriculum.

In the first decades of the 21st century, the topic of the ‘playing’ person has become the core of interdisciplinary research on human activity. As museums have been adopting a new approach towards cultural dissemination and educational goals, the discourse of play is also becoming one of the current fields of research in museology. Although the cultural aspects of play and game have been discussed for a long time, the interpretation of the concept of play from the museological point of view is a relatively new field which requires the definition of the synonymously used terms and the respective concepts. The aim of this article is to highlight the concept and function of play in museology based on the analysis of museology theories, to identify the preconditions for the formation of play communication, and to identify the directions of the development of the concept of play in the contemporary museological research. The article is based on an integrated literature review of the analysis of the concept of play while focusing on theoretical texts and monographs of scholars studying the phenomenon of play, as well as on theoretical and empirical research articles analysing the expression of play in all types of museums. This paper also discusses the linguistic use of the terms play and game. In the Lithuanian language, we not only have to deal with the synonymous use of play (žaismas)/game (žaidimas) in the translation of spel, play, spielen, but also with the use of play in the translation of both play and game used in different contexts in the English-language literature. Since game is a structured form of play, and, in the museological research and practice, game is more commonly defined as the digital expression and referred to as gamification, it is suggested that play (as an action and a state of being) should be distinguished from game (as a structured form of action) by using two different terms in the Lithuanian language. The literature reviewed in this article has highlighted that the concept of play in the museum is linked to the development of new theories of museology, and it reveals itself as a creative construct that is shaped and sustained by the institution. Play is defined as the concept for communicating the theme of the museum, manifested through the act of play and the elements of game. This approach to the dissemination of content and the organisation of activities is expressed through the application of play and game methods which allow the audience to engage in a more intensive relationship with the museum’s theme and exhibits. Play becomes a necessary medium for the museum’s metagame which includes and expresses playfulness, play action, playful elements, real and digital games, whereas the audience is engaged by play to satisfy its educational and entertainment needs. To summarise on the interdisciplinary context of the phenomenon of play, in museology, it is most appropriate to associate play with an intellectual or conce

The article is researching the life events of the Lithuanian man of letters, clergyman, ethnographer, folklorist, writer, publicist, historian and translator Liudvikas Adomas Jucevičius (Ludwik Adam Jucewicz, 1813–1846) while focusing on the years 1838–1840 when he was serving as the vicar in Švenčionys Parish. It was during these years that such famous works as literary legends as Baltijos jūros karalienė (en. The Queen of the Baltic Sea) and Džiugo kalnas (en. Džiugas Hill) were created. Simultaneously, Liudvikas Adomas Jucevičius created the works Lietuvių liaudies priežodžiai (en. Lithuanian Folk Proverbs) and Žemaitijos bruožai (en. The Features of Samogitia) which are still of high relevance to the Lithuanian academic community. The article reveals the starting point of the academic-publicist activity of this prominent personality at Vilnius Roman Catholic Spiritual academy which encouraged his academic pursuits in Švenčionys. As archival institutions are operating under the conditions of globalization, digital culture, and technological changes, displaced archives are evaluated from various aspects (theoretical, sociopolitical, or technological). Ensuring the accessibility of displaced archives remains the fundamental goal of archives, which is inseparable from the strategies of document heritage accumulation (acquisition) in archives, the application of archival principles or document concepts, knowledge of the history of a country or a specific region, and knowledge of the legal system. The research and good practice of displaced archives is also of importance for the state archives of Lithuania. Professor Zigmantas Kiaupa discussed the efforts by archives in an attempt to recover documents illegally exported from Lithuania. However, searches for the archival heritage by the Lithuanian state archives after 1990 have not become the object of scientific publications. The article gives a review of the actions of the state archives system since 1990 which was aimed at identifying the documentary heritage related to Lithuania but preserved abroad. The focus of attention is on the creation of legal regulation, accumulation of documents, and information about the identified documents related to Lithuania and the further activities of state archives. Archival sources show that, since 1990, the identification of documents related to Lithuania and preserved abroad along with the activity of their storage in Lithuania is a continuous and consistent process, although the scope of this activity is not large, and only a few archives have been participating in its implementation. The review of the activity of the Office of the Chief Archivist of Lithuania and the state archives proves that international agreements or agreements of cooperation between two countries contribute to the establishment of close professional relationships, but it is not a prerequisite for the document search. It is more important to provide methodological assistance to those who have preserved the documents related to Lithuania (especially to Lithuanians living abroad) as well as to coordinate the activities related to document management, their description, digitization, and publication, as these activities require different competencies. The article concludes that the legislative regulation of Lithuania created legal opportunities for the state archives to make independent decisions regarding the strategy of collecting documents related to Lithuania and to be more actively involved in the activities of digital cultural heritage actualization. The state archives of Lithuania do not associate the accumulation of documentary heritage related to Lithuania only with the physical form of documents. The article argues that the accumulation of digital cultural objects and the dissemination of descriptive information in archives using several information retrieval tools further complicates the accessibility of
