“Now, let us move to our conversation — please name characteristics of a parable”. On questions students are asked during their high school oral leaving exam in PolishIn the article I present the results of a qualitative and quantitative analysis of 149 questions asked by teachers during 30 high school oral leaving exams in Polish. In this I use the classification formulated by Elizabeth Perrott, who, taking into account Benjamin Bloom’s “taxonomy of educational objectives”, has proposed a division of the questions by the type of thinking process launched during answering, distinguishing lower-level questions recall, understanding, application and higher-level questions analysis, synthesis and evaluation. The article consists of two main parts. In part one I present the category of question from pragmatic, grammatical and didactic perspectives; in part two I discuss the results of a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the question, which unequivocally demonstrates that examiners overuse lower-level questions over 70 percent in the studied material.

Declination of the names of Polish local places in school education — how and why?Inflection of Polish place names is a new topic in the Polish language curriculum. In the article I discuss the basic problems with the teaching of the subject in school practice e.g. Considerable grammatical diversity and irregularity of the names, relatively low number of teaching aids and propose basic objectives as well as examples of methods used when working with the names of Polish towns and villages. The main objective is not just to develop grammatical competence; it is also about, perhaps above all, developing logical thinking as well as the ability to deal with difficulties using reliable sources of information. Exercises with Polish place names can teach analysis, reasoning, spotting differences and similarities, and using analogies. They should also encourage the use of place names in various texts.

About some forms and methods of language skills training as part of speaking exercises in the project of Tadeusz CzapczyńskiThe purpose of the article is to present the proposal of a Polish language teacher from Łódź to bring closer the ways of learning by the student both various linguistic exercises and didactic methods of language elements that were determinants of his oral expression. The solutions applied in the interwar period led to the achievement of language skills, which, by making the classroom situations resemble authentic communication situations, naturally prepared for communicating themselves and the world of their values and learning about the world of others. It seems that even today it is worth using the opportunities of speaking exercises off ered by Czapczyński, adapting them to the specifi c didactic situation and remembering to provide the learner with the possibility of sustainable development of language competences.

Where is everyone drawn to...? On a group of proverbsThe article is devoted primarily to two Polish proverbs: “Każdy rad tam chodzi, gdzie się urodzi” Everyone likes to go where they were born and “Każdy tam ciągnie, gdzie się ulągnie” Everyone is drawn to where they came from. They were mentioned by Julian Krzyżanowski, who concluded that their meaning is erotic, pornographic even, a view challenged and rejected in the article, and replaced with the author’s own explanations. Three most important meanings have been established: 1. when urodzi and ulągnie denote growth, prosperity, profit; 2. concern a return to the birth place: home, town, homeland; 3. tell us that people are ruled by inclinations, customs, nature, i.e. old Polish nałogi habits and przyrodzenie nature; cf. M. Rej’s “Muszą myśli nasze tam ciągnąć, gdzie je przyrodzenie wlecze; do czego kogo nałóg a przyrodzenie ciągnie, tym się zawżdy para i tego pilnie szuka” Our thoughts are necessarily drawn to where nature attracts them, what habit and nature attracts one is what one always does and diligently seeks. The author has also established that the Polish proverbs in question have their European predecessors: Greek, Latin, Egyptian, e.g. “Habit is the second nature of man” Aristotle, “Everyone is dragged on by their favorite pleasure” Trahit quemque sua voluptas – Virgil; “To each his own is beautiful” Suum cuique pulchrum — Cicero, “You will return to your own mud floor, you will find your sycamore Egyptian.
告诉我们人们受倾向、习俗、天性的支配,即古老的波兰语 nałogi 习惯和 przyrodzenie 天性;参见 M.Rej 的 "Muszą myśli nasze tam ciągnąć, gdzie je przyrodzenie wlecze; do czego kogo nałóg a przyrodzenie ciągnie, tym się zawżdy para i tego pilnie szuka" 我们的思想必然被自然吸引到自然吸引他们的地方,习惯和自然吸引一个人的地方就是一个人一直在做并孜孜以求的地方。

12th Interdisciplinary Co lloquium on Proverbs, 4–11 November 2018, Tavira, PortugalThe city of Tavira Portugal, possessing the proud title of the world capital of proverbs, in 2018 hosted the 12th Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Proverbs of the International Association of Paremiology AIP-IAP. The high level of the Colloquium is guaranteed by the multiannual participation of such renowned academics as Wolfgang Mieder USA and František Čermák Czech Republic. The thematic set-up of the 2018 Colloquium moved from “interdisciplinary” to paremiological. Most of the papers analyzed strictly paremiological subjects e.g. the role of grammatic gender in proverbs, the Matti Kuusi International type system, basic English proverbs, and a smaller but no less valuable part was dedicated to the general role of proverbs in literature and society legal application of proverbs, proverbs and education, etc.. Traditionally, the Portuguese linguistic and cultural input was significant.

Three stories about the Stranger. Kristeva, Gombrowicz, Pankowski The article deals with the links between strangeness, otherness and foreignness. Julia Kristeva’s book Strangers to Ourselves provides a theoretical context for an interpretation of two novels: Trans-Atlantyk by Witold Gombrowicz and A Visitor by Marian Pankowski. Both the Bulgarian-French theorist and the two Polish writers demonstrate various links of the category of strangeness and its derivatives and the identity discourse. The traditional notion of identity turns out to have oppressive consequences, because despite its apparent neutrality it is defined through a judgemental reference to its contradiction: non-identity as well as otherness. Kristeva, Gombrowicz and Pankowski propose alternative forms of identity which are — like the identity of a foreigner — open, heterogenous and open to difference.
