The Silver nanoparticle (AgNPs) have received attention for their antiviral potential against SARS-CoV-2. The objective is to conduct a scope review and map the scientific evidence on the use of AgNPs in mouthwashes as an adjunct in decreasing the viral load in the oral cavity of patients with SARS-CoV-2. A search was performed in the PubMed, Medline, Scielo databases, and a manual search in the reference lists, following the standards of the Joanna Briggs Institute for Scoping Review without restriction of year, language or sample size. Thus, 14 articles were included, where they researched the use of AgNPs with antiviral effect against SARS-CoV-2, mouthwashes for SARS-CoV-2 and AgNPs as mouthwashes. We can suggest that AgNPs are likely antiviral therapies for SARS-CoV-2 and its use in mouthwashes associated with other therapies are promising strands for decreasing viral load and infection by the virus.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the performance of day-and evening-class students in the first semester test of Dental Materials in the School of Dentistry at São José dos Campos - UNESP, who were exposed to traditional lectures (TRAD) and Team-Based Learning (TBL). Material and Methods: The results of Dental Materials first semester test of students, from day and evening classes of 2016 were tabulated and analyzed in this research. The groups formed for the execution of the methodology were randomized using the individual global average of the previous year of the students, and the groups were composed of 6 to 7 members, maintained throughout the course. During the correction of the tests, the subject of each question and the applied methodology (TBL and TRAD) were identified. Responses of each question were graded separately according to the subject for comparison between methodologies. A total of 88 tests were evaluated. The performance was evaluated through a comparison of the average grade of each question, related to a specific learning methodology. The data were submitted to t-test. Results: The students’ overall performance was similar when both methodologies were compared. Students from day class presented higher grades with TBL whilst evening class students presented better performance in questions with traditional lectures. Conclusion: Active learning should be further implemented in Brazilian Dental Schools to change students’ habits aiming to improve their personal and social skills besides of professional technical knowledge.

Objective: Streptococcus mutans is one of the etiological agents associated with caries due to its ability tometabolize carbohydrates and resist acidic environments. On the other hand, Streptococcus dentisani, showscharacteristics associated with caries control due to its ability to inhibit growth of cariogenic bacteria. Theaim of this work was to quantify the levels of Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus dentisani from dentalbiofilm of children related to their caries situation. Material and Methods: After identification of morphologiccharacteristics of reference strains was performed, clinical isolates of biofilm compatible with these strains wereselected and the Polymerase Chain Reaction technique was performed using species-specific primers. Biofilmsamples from 25 children with caries and 21 without caries were collected to quantify the levels of S. mutans andS. dentisani. Results: There were statistically significant differences in the levels of S. mutans in the caries groupand the levels increased as the severity of the carious lesion increased. By contrast, higher levels of S. dentisaniwere found in the caries-free group, although no statistically significant differences were found. In addition,the levels of S. dentisani decreased as the severity of the carious lesion increased. Conclusion: The increasein the frequency of S. dentisani in the caries-free group suggests the possibility of requiring minimum levels ofthis species in the dental biofilm to show an actual protective effect. It must also be considered that this effectmight be related to intrinsic factors in children and the intraspecies genetic variability found in every individual. KEYWORDSBiofilm; Clinical isolates; Dental caries; Streptococcus dentisani; Streptococcus mutans.
dentisani。

Objective: this study aims to know the caregiver’s perception of children’s dental caries and their experience of accessing dental health services in children. Material and Methods: this research was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional method and used a purposive sampling technique with a sample of 56 respondents. Data were obtained through a questionnaire and the sampling technique used purposive sampling with samples were all caregivers at Cahaya Tazkia Kindergarten, Yapita Kindergarten, and Aisyiah 52 Kindergarten Surabaya. Data were analyzed using a correlation Spearman test. Results: perceived benefit and self-efficacy had a significant correlation with the experience of accessing dental health services (p-value ≤ 0.05) with coefficient correlations were 0.168 and 0.936 respectively. Meanwhile, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, and the perceived barrier had no correlation with the experience of accessing dental health. Most male respondents in this research had a proper job to manage their children to go to dental health. Perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefit, and self-efficacy of women caregivers in productive age were good but the perceived barrier showed a high mean. Respondents with that characteristics did not have steady jobs. Conclusion: women caregiver between the age of 21-40 years old believes that maintaining oral health is beneficial and will result in an increased number of accessing dental health services for their children. But caregivers who were women and also did not have a steady job had barriers to accessing dental health for their children.

Cleft lip and palate is a very common congenital defect in which embryonic facial processes do not achieve the ideal facial formation during their development which can cause malformation. Multiple dentistry specializations, especially oral and maxillofacial, orthodontics, oral rehabilitation and dental aesthetics are required in order to correct lip and oral cavity malformations by this congenital defect with the objective of functional and aesthetics improvement. The clinical case reported show the multidisciplinary approach in a patient with cleft lip and palate implementing an aesthetic and functional dentofacial rehabilitation. The case involves a 27-year-old female patient LCLG, Caucasian, with the presence of unilateral congenital cleft lip and palate on the left side, who started rehabilitative and reparative treatment at 3 months of age. She then started pediatric orthodontic treatment for angle class 3 crossbite correction at 7 years of age. After complete replacement of deciduous to permanent dentition at the age of 11, the patient started orthodontic treatment with a fixed appliance for several years and restorative treatment with composite resin reanatomize the anterior teeth due to agenesis of elements 22 and 25. After a few years when the resin restorations were no longer biologically favorable, an aesthetic rehabilitation treatment with ceramic laminates was planned through smile digital planning soon after completing the orthodontic treatment. This case report demonstrates that high aesthetic, functional and psychological expectations of a patient with congenital defect compromise throughout her life were met through a multidisciplinary dental treatment based on correct diagnosis and digital planning.

Multiple dentistry specializations, especially oral and maxillofacial, orthodontics, oral rehabilitation and dental aesthetics are required in order to correct lip and oral cavity malformations by this congenital defect with the objective of functional and aesthetics improvement. The clinical case reported show the multidisciplinary approach in a patient with cleft lip and palate implementing an aesthetic and functional dentofacial rehabilitation. The case involves a 27-year-old female patient LCLG, Caucasian, with the presence of unilateral congenital cleft lip and palate on the left side, who started rehabilitative and reparative treatment at 3 months of age. She then started pediatric orthodontic treatment for angle class 3 crossbite correction at 7 years of age. After complete replacement of deciduous to permanent dentition at the age of 11, the patient started orthodontic treatment with a fixed appliance for several years and restorative treatment with composite resin reanatomize the anterior teeth due to agenesis of elements 22 and 25. After a few years when the resin restorations were no longer biologically favorable, an aesthetic rehabilitation treatment with ceramic laminates was planned through smile digital planning soon after completing the orthodontic treatment. This case report demonstrates that high aesthetic, functional and psychological expectations of a patient with congenital defect compromise throughout her life were met through a multidisciplinary dental treatment based on correct diagnosis and digital planning.","PeriodicalId":37577,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Dental Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89325156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
