Resumen Este artículo analiza la dimensión territorial en la conformación de la agencia y las identidades políticas indígenas en las Pampas y la Pa-tagonia entre la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII y la primera mitad del siglo XIX. Partimos de la revisión de investigaciones recientes que nos permiten dar cuenta de la especificidad de las lógicas territoriales indígenas y discutimos la asociación mecánica entre etnicidad, territorio y unidades políticas, para enfocar las articulaciones a escala regional y destacar el carácter dinámico e histórico de las identidades terri-toriales indígenas. Proponemos algunas claves de lectura para identificar las principales continuidades y discontinuidades operadas en la configuración y eslabonamientos de territorios y relaciones al interior del Puelmapu , resultantes de la agencia indígena, sus articulaciones mercantiles que se extendían a las fronteras y las políticas estatales que la condicionaban

El trabajo constituye una síntesis de investigaciones interdisciplinarias en curso sobre las trayectorias comparadas de los linajes de los caciques Maycá y Catriel desde sus incorporaciones a la política del “negocio pacífico de indios”, en las décadas de 1820 y 1830, hasta la unificación del Estado en 1862. Se pone el foco en los patrones de asentamiento urbano y rural. Además, se indagan los cambios operados en la territorialidad indígena en virtud de su vinculación con el Estado y la sociedad criolla en la frontera sur de Buenos Aires, atendiendo a la agencia indígena, la prestación de servicio armado, el papel de las instituciones y los agentes intermedios dentro del contexto fronterizo bonaerense. Se destaca la diversidad de formas de acceso a la tierra y de derechos de propiedad, especialmente durante el período de “ordenamiento legal” de corte liberal post Caseros, y la proyección de estos procesos de raigambre decimonónica hasta nuestros días. Palabras clave : territorialidad, asentamiento urbano rural, frontera sur de Buenos Aires, indios amigos, siglo XIX. Abstract This study constitutes a synthesis of interdisciplinary investigations in progress on the comparative trajectories of the lineages of the Maycá and Catriel chieftains since their incorporation into the policy of the “peaceful business of Indians” in the decades of 1820 and 1830 until the unification of the State in 1862. We focus on the urban and rural settlement patterns and the changes that have taken place in indigenous territoriality due to their relation to the State and Creole society on the southern frontier of Buenos Aires. In this sense, we attend to the indigenous agency, the provision of armed service, and the role of institutions and intermediate agents within the Buenos Aires frontier context. The diversity of forms of access to land and property rights stands out, especially during the “legal order” period of the post-Caseros liberal court and the projection of these processes of nineteenth-century roots to the present day.

In this paper, we address the situation of the indigenous population lands in the southern sector of the Buenos Aires frontier during the 1860s and 1870s. Within the studies on the territoriality of the Pampas and North Patagonia indigenous populations, the particular situation of the “indios amigos” -groups settled on the Buenos Aires frontier- constitutes a topic on which the focus of analysis has been placed in the last years. We analyze initiatives for access to legal land ownership and different projects promoted by the State and other sectors of frontier society, which proposed the reorganization and regularization of indigenous settlements. We also made the first approach to economic activities of the “indios amigos,” which contributed to explaining the various interests that influenced the possibilities of access to land for the indigenous population on the southern frontier of Buenos Aires.
