This paper addresses the relationship between the nation state and the management of cultural diversity in the Latin American con-text, characterized by the construction of a non-homogeneous national identity. The recognition of a multinational State is the result of the claims of national minorities and in turn the concept of citizenship and the role of the citizen. In this sense, intercultural dialogue becomes a reaction to uniform policies and a space of coexistence between all cultures. The implementation of intercultural policies implies not only the recognition of difference, but a new model of social coexistence based on cultural exchange.

This article presents research results on presidios in Nueva Granada (Colombia) between the Independency and the Penal Code of 1837. We start with a double query on the situation of these institutions in their material reality on one side and their ideological existence within the legal framework on the other. Such query is framed within a preoccupation with the distance between both realities: between the “ought” of law and the “is” of material life. The research unfolded through the contrast between sources that account for the legal structure of presidios in the form of laws, codes, decrees on one side and the evidences of their material existence in the form of reports and official communications on the other. The article delivers an outlook on presidios situation in Nueva Granada during the years of early republic formation.

The method-ology consisted of the systematic mapping of scientific articles using the sources and databases WOS, SciELO, Scopus, Eric, Redalyc, Dianlet, Doaj, OEI, as well as specialized books in the international, national and local context. The information analysis procedure is content analysis. The main results are related to a framework of analysis on educational practices and the identification of action tracks in the framework of intercultural education, to overcome the omission and ignorance of Mapuche educational methods in pedagogical reflection. It is concluded that by implementing an analysis framework related to educational practices from an intercultural educational approach and a co-constructive approach, it enables the transformation of the teaching and learning process, from an epistemological pluralism. These participatory actions allow the involvement of actors from the educational and social environment, thereby building culturally relevant learning.

Abstract : In the context of Deaf students, Intercultural communicative competence (ICC) implies respect for the Deaf culture through the teaching of sign language. This article shows partial results of a broader research which tried to establish components of intercultural communicative competence in teacher performance, and in the linguistic performance of Deaf students and their families in a special school located in the Metropolitan Region, Chile. This was qualitative research using an ethnographic design based on a case study. An in-depth interview was held with teachers who work in a special school. A priori content analysis was used for the treatment of the corpus, considering the communicative competence model of Aguaded (2006). The findings suggest that the informants interviewed present intercultural communicative competence and recognize otherness in Deafhood through cultural relevance in the classroom. The evidence shows an equal presence between the dimensions of intercultural communicative competence:

Abstract This paper presents the results of a research aimed to analyze historiographic and ethnological works on the Mapuche society, in perspective of the construction of a historical-social imaginary that promoted the configuration of the Araucanian as “other” and, in whose dissemination the historical teaching participated, through the recreation of the discourses proposed by the school manuals. The study was developed based on a methodology of historical-documentary nature and its contribution to social knowledge lies in the association between the historical thinking and teaching. The research shows how the imaginary of the other is constructed, based on positivist / evolutionary scientific and historiographic assumptions, relegating “the Araucanian race” to an initial state of human evolution. The role of historical teaching in the recreation of the dominant imaginary is also exposed.

The teaching of research in intercultural bilingual education (IBE) university programs presents a challenge given the supremacy of positivist paradigms, quantitative methodologies and monolingual academic discourse in Spanish as privileged referents in higher education. In this study we systematize an experience of research teaching (2016-2019) in an IBE training program of a private university in Lima, with the purpose of contributing to decolonizing pedagogies in the field of research education. Based on an analysis of autoethnographic reflections, student testimonies collected in 5 in-depth interviews and over 30 thesis projects, we explore the following questions: how has this decolonizing research pedagogy been developed in order to empower young researchers grounded on their educational practice and culture? And, what are the experiences and reflections of our IBE graduates on this process? Our findings reveal the diverse identities, epistemologies and communicative practices that are part of, and constitute, the research teach-ing-learning process, which we view as a collective and continuous construction. We conclude that decolonizing pedagogies in the field of research education seek to vindicate and reaffirm the knowledges, identities, communicative practices and ways of relating of indigenous peoples, as well as to foster a critical and reflexive appropriation by student-researchers of the contributions of other cultural traditions in order to understand and transform educational realities.

Abstract The analysis of different historical processes has integrated the Atacama Desert. Territorial delimitation, war disputes, mining ex-ploitation, workers’ movement, among others, are part of these historical interpretations. Nowadays, the Desert hosts other activities that have progressively grown, with astronomy and solar energy in highlighted places. In this paper I present two initiatives linked to astronomy and solar energy, which occurred in the first decades of the 20th century. They settled the experience of observing the desert from its scientific potential. In this way, it is possible to contribute to understanding the variations of meaning of a place and landscape, in historical perspective. Desolation and isolation, once considered obstacles to overcome, began to nurture the imaginary of a place of science, currently called “natural laboratory”, inserted in national narratives.

Abstract The article describes contemporary processes of patrimonialization of protected indigenous territories, delving into structural condi-tions, geopolitical consensus and institutional transformations that facilitate the commodification of spaces that conserve important common resources and ways of life that are not limited to capitalists modes of production. The qualitative design of our situated research favors methodological triangulations (bibliographic sources, participant observation and interviews) that provide flexibility and cultural relevance in accessing the reality of the communities studied. The results make visible experiences of autonomous design carried out by indigenous people to materialize territorial self-determination processes applied to the governance of tourism.

implementación Abstract Chilean historiography has paid little attention to built environment in relation to final disposal of household waste. In this article, we focus on the issue of waste management, from a specific technological device, the sanitary landfill, with the aim of analyzing, from a historical perspective, the implementation of the landfill model in Chile. The purpose is to understand, in the case of Santiago, in the period 1970-2020, the inter-scalar dynamics that articulated the transition from unregulated landfills to the installation, operation and closure of the first sanitary landfills, through the adoption of a model imported from the United States, its insertion at the national level, and its impacts at the local level based on three case studies (Cerros de Renca, Lepanto and Lo Errázuriz). We argue that the partial adoption of the sanitary landfill model, in terms of its location with respect to the city, has implied the creation of long-term environmental problems and has resulted in environmental injustices, which have given rise to socio-environmental conflicts that are still active decades after its closure.
