To mark the coronation of Franz Joseph as King of Hungary in 1867, Alajos Hauszmann was commissioned, following the passing of Miklós Ybl to expand and improve the Royal Palace on Castle Hill. The jewel of this project being Saint Stephen's Hall which, the culmination of works by leading artists of the time centred on a monumental fireplace executed in pyrogranite by the factory of Vilmos Zsolnay. This hall was destroyed at the end of World War II. Under the National Hauszmann Program this hall has been accurately restored to its former splendour under the guidance of architect, Tibor Angyal.

The need to revitalize this group of buildings located on the bank of Danube, which acted as a buffer between the local community and the river, has led to a new centre of activity. Places of employment and social interaction have been generated. Introducing planting to former industrial building softens the landscape, which leads towards brick buildings tha tare now easier to acces and move around due to the intervention of new lifts, stairs and corridors. Industrial heritage is retained, whilst creating a place for the current and future citizens of this town in a place which also welcomes visitors alike.
