Doses and number of applications of ethephon in sex reversal of zucchini squash flowers 乙烯利在西葫芦花性别逆转中的用量及应用次数

Ethylene can change the flowering pattern of some cucurbits, favoring the emergence of female flowers. The objective was to determine the influence of doses and number of ethephon applications in sex reversal of zucchini (Cucurbita pepo L.). The experiment was conducted in a 4 x 4 factorial arrangement, plus a control (natural flowering), the first factor being the ethephon doses (125, 250, 375 and 500 mg∙L-1) and the second the number of applications (1, 2, 3 and 4). Ethephon influenced the sexual expression of zucchini, but not enough to achieve complete sex reversal. The 500 mg∙L-1 dose provided the largest feminization for all applications. Ethephon might be a useful tool for zucchini breeding programs.

Fertilization management in ‘Pinto Centauro’ beans and its impact on yield, nutritional quality and profitability index “半人马座平托”大豆施肥管理及其对产量、营养品质和盈利指标的影响

Fertilization offers a way to counteract micronutrient deficiencies and achieve a higher mineral content in plants. The objective of this study was to evaluate the response to fertilization management in ‘Pinto Centauro’ beans, as well as its impact on yield, nutritional quality and profitability index. The study was conducted during the springsummer 2017 growing season in a rainfed ‘Pinto Centauro’ bean crop in the municipality of Cusihuiriachi, Chihuahua, Mexico. A randomized complete block experimental design was used with three fertilization management schemes: control FM1 (N, P and K, with 41, 46 and 22 kg∙ha-1, respectively), fertilization FM2 (N, P, K, S and Zn, with 41, 46, 22, 12 and 1 kg∙ha-1, respectively) and fertilization FM3 (N, P, K, S and Zn, with 45, 60, 22, 22 and 1.5 kg∙ha-1, respectively). Yield, nutritional quality (physicochemical properties and mineral content) and profitability were evaluated. The results obtained were statistically significant. FM3 fertilization increased yield by 46.26 %. In terms of nutritional quality, the highest concentrations were 8.35 % protein, 74 % phosphorus, 16.3 % iron and 39.77 % zinc. The profitability index was higher (55 %) with the FM3 treatment, compared to the control. Fertilization improved bean productivity and quality under rainfed conditions, making it a viable and sustainable strategy in semi-arid bean producing regions in Mexico and the world.

Dynamic energy balance model in a greenhouse with tomato cultivation: simulation, calibration and evaluation 番茄温室栽培动态能量平衡模型:模拟、标定与评价

Control of the environmental conditions inside a greenhouse is fundamental to obtain high yields and product quality. One of the tools to improve this control is the mathematical modeling of the system in question. Therefore, in this work a dynamic energy balance model was developed with the objective of predicting the air temperature inside a greenhouse. The model considers the process of plant transpiration, ventilation and condensation inside a greenhouse, outside climate conditions, crop characteristics (leaf area index, stomatal and aerodynamic resistance), cover properties and greenhouse characteristics. The information used was collected in a greenhouse located at the Universidad Autonoma Chapingo, Mexico (19° 29’ LN and 98° 53’ LW), with a polyethylene cover, natural ventilation and tomato cultivation. The model was calibrated in order to obtain optimal values for six parameters: infiltration coefficient, heat transfer coefficient through the cover, heat transfer coefficient through the soil, crop-specific transpiration and wind effect coefficient. After calibration, the efficiency of the model improved by 33.84 %. The performance of the model was quite acceptable when evaluated with another set of data.

Abstract The use of animal sex hormones in plants does not have a long history, but the presence of these hormones in plants has been proven. The aim of the research was to investigate the effects of gibberellic acid and progesterone on growth and development of Zinnia elegans flower in a factorial experiment based on a completely randomized design with three factors considering three replications. The first factor included application times (pre-sowing, four-leaf stage and two months after sowing), the second factor was progesterone rates (0, 5 and 10 mg·L) and three gibberellic acid rates (0, 100, and 200 mg·L). The measured traits were dry weight and fresh weight of aerial organ and root, number of nodes, number of flowers, number of buds, number of branches and leaves, the distance from the crown to the first leaf, the distance from the crown to the first branch, plant height, chlorophyll a, b and total chlorophyll and leaf area. Results showed that the highest fresh weight of aerial organ and root, maximum number of nodes, flower number, bud number, branch number, the highest plant height and the highest content of chlorophyll a occurred two months after planting. Overall, 10 mg·L progesterone had the best effects on the traits. The maximum leaf area was obtained by applying 5 mg·L two months after sowing.

Abstract In the Comarca Lagunera, the melon is considered the most important vegetable crop, so there is interest in venturing into new export markets for which various ways of preserving the fruit have been investigated. The new Harper-type melon hybrids have higher fruit quality, longer post-harvest life and higher yields than commercial ones. The objective of this work was to identify new Harper-type melon hybrids with longer post-harvest life to reach distant markets. Three Harper-type melon hybrids (King RZ, Queen RZ, Alaniz Gold) were evaluated against a control of the region (Cruiser F1). The experiment was carried out in Matamoros, Coahuila, Mexico, under a randomized block design. The post-harvest life of the fruits stored at 18 °C was evaluated at 10, 20 and 30 days, from the weight loss percentage and the speed factor thereof. There was no significant difference in fruit weight and yield. Queen RZ and King RZ hybrids had the highest total soluble solids values at the time of harvest (13.62 and 13.42 °Brix, respectively) and 30 days post-harvest (10.25 and 10.44 °Brix, respectively) (P ≤ 0.05). Both were marketable after 30 days of storage, sufficient to reach distant markets.

The objective of this work was to identify new Harper-type melon hybrids with longer post-harvest life to reach distant markets. Three Harper-type melon hybrids (King RZ, Queen RZ, Alaniz Gold) were evaluated against a control of the region (Cruiser F1). The experiment was carried out in Matamoros, Coahuila, Mexico, under a randomized block design. The post-harvest life of the fruits stored at 18 °C was evaluated at 10, 20 and 30 days, from the weight loss percentage and the speed factor thereof. There was no significant difference in fruit weight and yield. Queen RZ and King RZ hybrids had the highest total soluble solids values at the time of harvest (13.62 and 13.42 °Brix, respectively) and 30 days post-harvest (10.25 and 10.44 °Brix, respectively) (P ≤ 0.05). Biomass production, nutritional requirement of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, and concentration of the nutrient solution in oregano 生物质产量、氮、磷、钾营养需要量及牛至中营养液浓度

The concentration of nutrient solution (NS) in soilless culture systems influences the accumulation of aerial biomass and nutrient contents. This research aimed to determine the optimal Steiner NS concentration for biomass production in Greek oregano (Origanum vulgare L. ssp. hirtum [Link] Ietswaart), and to quantify its nutritional requirement of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. A completely randomized design was established with five treatments and five replicates. The treatments were different NS concentrations: 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125 %. The experimental unit consisted of five bags (20 x 20 cm) with substrate (tezontle: 3 to 10 mm in diameter), with one plant each. The fresh and dry aerial matter and the concentration of N, P and K in the different samples were determined. The results showed significant statistical difference in the five variables. The highest fresh and dry matter production was obtained with the 50 and 75 % NS concentrations. While the lower concentrations did not meet the crop’s nutrient demand, the higher concentrations significantly decreased biomass production. The 50 % NS can be used in commercial hydroponic oregano production. The nutritional requirement of this crop is: 4.76 kg of N, 0.70 kg of P and 5.10 kg of K, per ton of fresh matter.
