Arastirmanin amaci, mimarlik ogrencilerinin “Bilgi Arama Surecleri-BAS”ne iliskin tutumlarini ortaya cikarmaktir. Arastirmanin orneklemini Yakin Dogu Universitesi Mimarlik Fakultesi, Mimarlik Bolumu lisans programinda ogrenim goren Turk ogrencileri (n=291) olusturmaktadir. Arastirmada ogrencilerin BAS’a iliskin tutumlarini ortaya cikarmak icin “Bilgi Arama Sureclerine Iliskin Tutum Olcegi-BASTO” kullanilmistir. Arastirmada verilerin analizinde frekans ve yuzde hesaplari yapilmis, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Mann Whitney U ve Kruskal Wallis testleri uygulanmistir. Cultural heritage as an indicator that shows the existence and the structure of a society, is a concept that fundamentally based on the transmission of cultural values and objects among the generations. This feature of the concept requires effective use of information and communication technologies (ICT). Libraries, archives and museums are cultural institutions that efficently use ICT in order to provide value added services for their users. As one of these services, digitization practices contain many decision making processes for libraries, archives and museums. This study aims to analyze the practices of Turkish memory instutions having responsibilities for the issues related to digitization and digital preservation of cultural heritage objects. In this regard, this study conceptually discusses cultural heritage and libraries, archives and museums as cultural memory institutions and their digitization attempts in context of the developments in Turkey. In the light of description method obtained by SPSS Statistics 21 software, 14 cultural memory institutions contributing to digitization practices in Turkey were surveyed via a research instrument which was developed according to literature review, digitization and digital preservation approaches, and models and research model. Results reflect that there are some insufficiencies related to current situation analysis, planning and decision making phases and finalizing digitization projects. Results reflect that there is a need not only for sustainable digitization programmes but also for institutional digitization and digital preservation policies in analyzed memory instiutions.

Writing research and project assignments based on scientific ethical principles becomes challenging for high school students when they have lack of research and writing experiences. Plagiarism is the most encountered problem for students while writing their research assignments. Students can act to plagiarize not only consciously but unconsciously in cases of misconceptions. The main aim of the present study is to find the success of the IB program which includes targets of enhancing academic honesty and related skills in deleting plagiarism related misconceptions. The research is carried out including 114 students who participate in IB program and those 225 students who did not participate in an IB program. Data is collected via 3 Likert type test which was constructed by the researchers. SPSS program was utilized for data analysis. Frequencies and percentages for each test item was calculated and discussed. Adding Chi-square statistical analysis was used to reveal and discuss the significant differences, if so, between the two groups of students regarding each test item. The IB program was found to be successful in specific plagiarism types, but must be improved for more significant results.

Resat Nuri Guntekin’s letters are a significant source of information regarding the establishment of the Turkish Republic among scholars. Guntekin was a key person involved in the foundation of the Turkish Republic together with other important names, such as Ataturk and Hasan Âli Yucel. In this work, we visualize the relationships and implicit networks among these persons at an important period of Turkey’s establishment. In addition, we determine important events described in the letters. Seventy-three geographic points are indicated in the world map and the map of Turkey. Using content and proximity-based analyses, we further establish the exact dates of the letters.

The roving reference concept is relatively new in the Philippines. In 2012, the De La Salle University (DLSU) Libraries shared in its OCLC report entitled “Reference and Information Services in Selected Philippine Academic Libraries: Trends and Future Prospects” that DLSU will be introducing roving reference as part of the services of the DLSU Libraries. RIA or the Roving Information Assistant was finally launched in November 2013 and was pilot tested in July 2014. RIA allows the library staff to engage further with patrons, to expand information assistance, and to create a higher level of customer service in reference transactions. The presence of the librarians is more visible as they roam throughout the spheres of the library. This evaluative research seeks to determine if the objectives of RIA was fulfilled. Online evaluation forms were used to solicit feedback from both the users and the librarians. This paper shares the reference transaction experiences and results of the roving reference service of the De La Salle University Libraries.

This research investigates information behaviour of the strategic and tactical level commanders’ in emergency response context. The objective of the research is to observe and analyse the information processing of the emergency staff while carrying out complex, time critical tasks in emergency settings. Task studies in the recent literature discuss laboratory cases; this research has originality in investigating the real phenomenon. Fieldwork was conducted in AKOM (Afet Kordinasyon Merkezi – Disaster Coordination Centre) and Istanbul Fire Brigade settings. Data was collected via qualitative methods such as interviews and field observations. Emergency response tasks were analysed and categorised using Bystrom and Jarvelin’s (1995) conceptual framework. Cultural Historical Activity Theory is used as a theoretical framework and conceptual data analysis tool. Leont’ev (1978) and Wilson’s (2006b, 2008) activity system hierarchical structure was used to deconstruct tasks and scrutinise subtasks that has supporting role in emergency response context. Findings reveal that time pressure and task complexity has significant role on emergency response decision tasks and the way of responders’ information processing. To hedge uncertainty and make effective timely decisions, tactical and strategic level commanders collaboratively share information using abstract and concrete tools such as ICT, language, mobile devices and radio. As practical implications, the results of this research shed lights onto redesign of ICT tools used during disaster times, and restructuring the disaster management organisations to facilitate effective knot working while emergency response.

The purpose of this study is to develop a curriculum that aims to teach secondary school students’ online information searching skills, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum on improving the students’ online information searching strategies. In the study, “Curriculum for the Information Searching Strategies on the Internet” was developed in order to teach secondary school students online information searching strategies and support them to develop their knowledge and skills of how to search information online effectively. Upon developing the curriculum; an instruction was given to a total of 98 secondary school students, who are the fifth, sixth and seventh graders of a secondary school. In order to investigate the effect of the instruction on the students’ online information searching strategies; data was collected through pre and post questionnaires as in the form of the data collection instrument, “Secondary School Students’ Information Search Strategies on the Internet Questionnaire” which was developed by the researchers. Pre and post assessments required the students express the strategies they used while searching information on the internet before and after the instruction consecutively. Statistical analyses including dependent samples t-test and Wilcoxon signed rank test were employed in order to test the effect of the instruction on students’ online information searching strategies. Results suggest that instruction in the developed curriculum improves the secondary school students’ online information searching skills.

In the study, “Curriculum for the Information Searching Strategies on the Internet” was developed in order to teach secondary school students online information searching strategies and support them to develop their knowledge and skills of how to search information online effectively. Upon developing the curriculum; an instruction was given to a total of 98 secondary school students, who are the fifth, sixth and seventh graders of a secondary school. In order to investigate the effect of the instruction on the students’ online information searching strategies; data was collected through pre and post questionnaires as in the form of the data collection instrument, “Secondary School Students’ Information Search Strategies on the Internet Questionnaire” which was developed by the researchers. Pre and post assessments required the students express the strategies they used while searching information on the internet before and after the instruction consecutively. Statistical analyses including dependent samples t-test and Wilcoxon signed rank test were employed in order to test the effect of the instruction on students’ online information searching strategies. Socialmedia, the phenomenon of our era, has been usedby people and organizations widely and profoundly all over the world. This new communication and sharing platform offers many opportunities to its users. However, it has some threats. Therefore, operating, managing and controlling of social media accounts become important and creating a social media policy arises as a necessity. In this article, it has been determined whether the university libraries using social media have a social media policy and it has been tried todetermine the awareness level of the librarians with respect to whether they think that social media policy is a need. A survey has been conducted upon 90 university libraries that use social media and the responses of 67 (74,4 %) participants have been evaluated. The results show that only 7,4 % of the participant have a social media policy created for their library, and the librarians mostly (82%) believe that a document like social media policy should be used by the libraries. With regard to this, a social media policy, which is thought to be a guiding instrument for Turkish university libraries is proposed and presented in this study.

In 2014 Hittitologist Prof. Dr. Hatice Gonnet Bagana, a resident of Paris, donated her library, archive and visual collections to Koc University’s Suna Kirac Library. Gonnet Bagana, who was a student of Professor Emmanuel Laroche in Paris, was elected as the Hittitologist in charge at Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes V. Section, after Emmanuel Laroche’s retirement. Gonnet Bagana’s archive contains monographs, offprints, translations and transcriptions of Hittite texts, manuscripts, images from excavation sites, maps, and plans. This article discusses this collection from its donation to Koc University to its acquisation process and shipment from Paris to Istanbul, and from its classification, physical process and storage to digitization in the library. What makes this collection and digitization project unique is its specialization in Hittitology as being the first personal Hittiology archive digitized to be accessible for the researchers across the globe.
