The New Palestinian Science and Math Curricula in Light of the 21st Century Skills: A Critical and Enlightening Study 基于21世纪技能的巴勒斯坦新科学和数学课程:一项批判性和启发性的研究

The purpose of this study was to analyze the new Palestinian science and math curricula in light of the skills for the 21st Century to investigate the extent to which these curricula are able to prepare citizens who have a balanced degree of skills they need to live effectively in the 21st Century. The researchers developed a rubric and then used as a general framework for content analysis of the curricula. The rubric consisted of twelve main themes; creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, information literacy, media literacy, information and communications technology literacy, flexibility and adaptability, initiative and self-direction, cross-cultural skills, productivity and accountability, and leadership and responsibility. Findings of content analysis indicated that the existing curricula represent the skills for the 21st century poorly with low focus and insufficient attention on most skills that had been analyzed. In a second section, the paper offers a general conceptual framework with relevant models for reshaping the curricula with relevant authentic tasks that emerge from the Palestinian socio-cultural context in order to enable students to accommodate the 21st century skills, and provide school teachers with tangible mechanisms to enhance students’ skills for the 21st century. The paper concludes with a set of policy recommendations, and suggestions for further research about the relevance and effectiveness of this conceptual framework, and the improvement models in the new Palestinian curricula.

The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of using blended virtual classrooms in Blackboard in the light of Daniel’s model on teaching Mathematica program and developing the science processes, reasoning ability and academic achievement. The participants comprised 50 female students at Mathematics department, University of Tabuk. The researcher designed the two assessment tools, namely science processes test and reasoning ability test. Then the researcher taught the instructional content by using virtual classrooms blended learning in Blackboard in the light of Daniel’s model, in accordance with the teacher’s manual guide. Then, the researcher applied posttesting on the experimental group. The study results showed the effect of using blended virtual classrooms in Blackboard system in the light of the Daniel’s model in teaching Mathematica. The results also showed statistically significant correlation among science process, reasoning ability among study participants.

The Effect of a Training Program on the Attitudes of Teachers of Students with Learning Disabilities towards Co-Teaching 培训计划对学习障碍学生教师对合作教学态度的影响

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a training program on the attitudes of teachers who teach students with learning disabilities (LD) toward co-teaching. The sample of the study consisted of 60 female teachers who teach students with LD in general education schools at Al Batinah South Governorate, Oman. The participants were divided into two equal groups (experimental and control); each group was composed of 30 teachers. The researchers developed a training program and attitudes toward co-teaching scale (AS). The AS was administered as pretest and posttest to the teachers in both groups. The experimental group teachers received a training program based on co-teaching. The results showed statistically significant differences between the ratings of the teachers in the control and experimental groups on the post-testing of AS in favour of the experimental group. Results also showed non-significant effect of teachers’ major in the post-testing of the AS for the experimental group.

A Proposed Conceptualization for Applying Legal Education at Northern Border University 北方边境大学法学教育实施的构想

The purpose of this study was to identify the reality of applying legal education at Northern Border University from students’ perspectives. A related purpose was to explore the differences between the students’ according to gender and major and develop a proposed conceptualization of the application of legal education at the Northern Border University. A total of 227 male and female students responded to a questionnaire. The study concluded that the application level of legal education at Northern Border University was medium. The study also showed no statistically significant differences in the application of legal education attributed to students’ gender while there was a significant difference attributed to students’ major. The differences were in favor of students in humanities majors. The study presented a proposed conceptualization for the application of legal education at the Northern Border University.

Teachers’ Implicit Beliefs about Learners' Creativity 教师对学习者创造力的内隐信念

This study aimed to identify teachers' implicit beliefs about the creativity of learners in primary, middle, and secondary schools and explore the differences in implicit beliefs according to the teacher's gender, specialization, training, and experience. The study participant’s comprised 200 male and female teachers from primary, middle and secondary schools in the State of Kuwait during the 20182019 academic year. The study tools consisted of the Electronic Measure of the Teachers' Implicit Beliefs of Creativity. The results showed that developmental beliefs were the most prevailing beliefs among the teachers, followed by the environmental beliefs; and, finally beliefs about personality traits. Also, the study found no statistical differences in the implicit beliefs of creativity attributed to the gender or specialization of the teacher. Furthermore, implicit beliefs about creativity attributed to training favor those who received training on creativity and differences attributed to years of experience, in favor of teachers with more experience (10-15 years). Moreover, the results showed differences in implicit beliefs of creativity that can be attributed to the educational stage in favor of the secondary school. The study presented a set of recommendations for training teachers about creativity and how to deal with creative students.

A Competency Analysis of Waterpark Aquatic Professionals 水上乐园水上专业人员胜任力分析

The purpose of this study was to further the knowledge base in the aquatics field and assist in the development of universal standards to ensure that competent managers are employed at waterpark type venues. Until recently, thanks in part to the establishment of the Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC 2014), universal standards did not exist in aquatics. The development of standards in the field will help to ensure continuity in policies among all facility types, properly trained professionals, and ultimately safer environments for participants. Using a pair of five-point Likert scales to sample 600 aquatic professionals, this study sought to discover what key competencies were needed by waterpark professionals and which competencies needed further development specifically for waterpark professionals. Extrapolated from the results, we observed risk management was crucial to operations of waterparks and that programming was an area to examine further.

Validating Water Safety Competence 确认水安全能力

In early summer of 2017 and 2018 almost 200 children participated in a program facilitated by Downs Little Lifeguards (http://www.tr.qld.gov.au/facilities-recreation/sport-recreation/swimming-pools-gyms/13096-downs-little-lifeguards-program), a regional community initiative developed specifically to ensure that children in regional and rural Australia are able to survive or save themselves in inland waterway settings in Australia. Downs Little Lifeguards (DLL) is an entity borne out of community concerns for the risk to children in rural areas recreating at inland waterways as was originally identified in 2014 through research by the Royal Life Saving Society Australia (RLSSA). This paper provides details on the assessment of the water competency of this cohort of swimmers from a pool environment through to open water aquatic environment with reference to the water competency framework developed by Stallman, Moran, Quan, & Langendorfer (2017). The work provides a primer for further investigation into what defines water competency in drowning prevention and water safety.

This paper provides details on the assessment of the water competency of this cohort of swimmers from a pool environment through to open water aquatic environment with reference to the water competency framework developed by Stallman, Moran, Quan, & Langendorfer (2017). An Investigation of Youth Swimming Skills and Method of Instruction 青少年游泳技术与教学方法的调查研究

Drowning is a leading cause of death for US children. Teaching youth to swim in a formal setting from certified instructors is a consistent drowning prevention recommendation. Purposes for this investigation was to examine type of swimming instruction and ability to swim and compare to attitudes toward swimming among US youth. Methods were similar to previous USA Swimming studies in 2008 and 2010. YMCA associations in five cities were used to recruit adolescent survey respondents (n=600) aged 12-18 years. Results showed African American youth had the lowest rate of formal swimming instruction (29%) compared to White (32%) and Hispanic (42%) peers. Free/reduced lunch qualifiers reported a 23% formal instruction rate as compared to 43% of non-qualifiers. Formally instructed youth were 2.35 times more likely to report being a skilled swimmer (86%) compared to informally instructed youth (72%). Formal swimming instruction is recommended, and interventions need to target underserved populations.
