Sports coaches are guided by empirical evidence at the moment of planning the training loads, and, many times, these loads are not recorded for posterior analysis. A validated scientific instrument could help coaches to plan, register, and analyse sports training load. The study aimed to develop and assess the content validity of a catalog of exercises for speed track events. Through interviews, a group of expert coaches elaborated a catalog of exercises. Two groups of raters evaluated the content validity of these exercises, producing a coefficient of content validity (CCV) for such validity indicators as clarity of language, practical pertinence and theoretical relevance. Additionally, raters assessed the specificity level of each exercise by deciding if the exercise was general, special or specific to speed track events. These CCV results confirmed the content validity of a 75-exercise catalog with satisfactory validity indicators, meaning the exercises are understandable for athletic coaches (CCVCL=0,93), pertinent for speed track training (CCVPP=0,84) and relevant (CCVRT=0,83). This catalog may help athletic coaches to plan, implement and analyze their players’ sports training loads.

The effectiveness of simulation-based training has been examined in various sports. However, considering the effect of gender and sport on training, it would be interesting to evaluate simulation-based training in female basketball. The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of simulation-based training on physical fitness and performance indices in female basketball players. Sixteen female semi-professional basketball players were randomly assigned to experimental (n=8; age, 25±2 years; weight, 62±9 kg; height, 167±8 cm) or control (n=8; age, 24±1 years; weight, 57±9 kg; height, 170±8 cm) groups. The experimental group participated in a six week basketball simulation training program including running with different speeds (jogging to sprinting), agility, jumping, and shuffling. Both groups performed the Cooper 12 min run, line drill, an adjusted T-test, 20 ms print, the Sargent vertical jump and basketball exercise simulation test before and after six weeks of the study period. Control and experimental groups performed typical basketball training, three times weekly. The overall training volume was similar for both groups. The perceived exertion was higher in the simulation-based training than control (p<0.05) group. The findings of this study indicated a significant increase in VO2 max (p=0.001), anaerobic power (p=0.009), explosive leg strength (p=0.036), and total distance covered in basketball exercise simulation test (p=0.001) and decrease of the meantime of one round of basketball exercise simulation test (p=0.001) in the simulation training compared to the control group. Generally incorporation of the simulation-based training in conditioning programs is recommended for improving aerobic, anaerobic and leg explosive strength of basketball players.

COVID-19, which has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation, has become a public health emergency across the globe. It is a highly contagious disease, which elicits high levels of fear amongst the world population and is considered a threat to the world economy. As a response to this pandemic, international governments have devised unconventional measures to guard the health of their citizenry. Among these are the “new normal” country lockdown that mandates working from home, home-schooling of children, and physical/social distancing from friends and family. For the majority, this has resulted in momentary job loss and loneliness, and other psychological illnesses. Hence millions are frightened, depressed and panic easily as a result of the tension due to the uncertainty, which interferes with their job performance, livelihoods, international trade and the world economy. If not mitigated, this is likely to cause physical health deterioration, with severe mental illness being the outcome. To reduce mental health illnesses during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, evidence suggests prioritising regular participation in physical activity and exercise across lifespan. It is also important for medical experts who specialise in the care and management of mental health to recognise physical activity and exercise as a medicine that can ameliorate some mental illnesses and their associated risk factors. © 2021 Onagbiye et al.

Lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is a common determinant of low back pain (LBP) and priority for cost-effective therapeutic approach is necessary. The objective of the study was to explore the effectiveness of McKenzie Manipulative Therapy (MMT) for patients with LDH. This was an assessor blinded, 36-month RCT, at Center for Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed (CRP) in Savaar, Bangladesh. Seventy-two subjects, ages 28-47 years and clinically diagnosed with MRI findings of LDH, were randomly recruited from hospital records and sixty-eight found eligible. The control group received stretching exercise and graded oscillatory mobilization, and the experimental group received McKenzie manipulative therapy for 12 sessions in 4 weeks, both groups received a standard set of care also. The pain was the primary outcome and the secondary outcome was participation in functional activities and disability. Pain and Disability found significant improvement in both groups, with the McKenzie approach significantly superior to the control group (p<.05). Bothersome in Activities (SBI) reported significantly lower post report compared to baseline for both groups (p<.01). McKenzie showed significantly superior outcomes for fear avoidance (FABQ) total and SBI feeling of abnormal sensation in leg compared to the control group (p <.05). The McKenzie manipulative therapy approach was found to be effective for pain, disability and participation in activities for single or multiple level LDH patients in a short time from day 1 to week 4, and the treatment effect extends after 6 months. Clinical Trial Registration No.: CTRI/2020/ 04/024667.
临床试验注册号:CTRI/2020/04/024667。

Exploratory Factor Analysis of Match Period and Sex-Related Differences of External and Internal Workload Demands in Youth Basketball Players
Q3 Health Professions Pub Date : 2021-04-19 DOI: 10.2174/1875399x-v14-e210419-2020-ht2-2022-2

The purpose of this study was to compare external and internal workload according to sex and match periods in youth basketball players during a congested-fixture tournament using an exploratory factor analysis method as a data reduction technique through Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Sixty-four youth basketball players (32 women and 32 men) participated in an official congested-fixture tournament of three consecutive matches. An ultra-wideband (UWB) indoor and inertial measurement unit (IMU) was used to quantify external and internal workload. PCA identified six to seven principal components that explained more than 60% and 70% of the variance for men and women, respectively. Significant differences between sexes in the external load variable as AccMax, DecMax, AccAvg, DecAvg, Acc2–4 /min, Dec2–4 /min, Sprint/min, SpeedMax, JumpsTotal, JumpsAvg, Takeoff3–5g /min, and Takeoff5–8g /min; and internal load variables as Player Load, Power Met, and Heart Rate bpm. TD/min, AccAvg /min, DecAvg /min, Acc2–4 /min, and Dec2–4 /min decreased significantly throughout the match. The results indicated that acceleration and deceleration greater explained men locomotion while jumping actions had higher significance in women.

Technical-tactical training has been shown to be relevant to performance in a competition. In this regard, several studies have analysed the efficiency of technical-tactical dynamics in combat sports. However, these researchers have mainly focused on technical efficiency, and therefore more research is needed regarding tactical efficiency. Furthermore, to the best of our knowledge, there are no published experiential studies on Ultimate Full Contact.

The experience of combat operations conducting in the eastern part of Ukraine in 2014-2020 convincingly demonstrated the need to increase the requirements for professional training of servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Physical training is one of the main subjects of professional training and an important means of psychophysical readiness formation of servicemen of various military specialties for modern extreme professional and combat activities. The aim of the study is to examine the efficiency of the experimental academic program of the discipline of Physical Education, and Special Physical Training concerning the formation of psychophysical readiness of cadets of technical higher military educational institutions for future professional and combat activity. The study was conducted at S. P. Koroliov Zhytomyr Military Institute. 120 male cadets participated in the experiment. An experimental group (EG), which consisted of the cadets who were studying according to the experimental working academic program of the discipline (n=60), and a control group (CG), which included the cadets studying according to the current working academic program of the discipline (n=60) were formed. The criteria of the efficiency of the experimental program are determined to be the indicators of general and special physical fitness of cadets and the level of professionally important psychological qualities. Research methods: theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific and methodical literature, pedagogical observation, pedagogical experiment, methods of mathematical statistics. It was discovered that conducting classes according to the experimental program contributed to the improvement of the level of development of the cadets’ special physical qualities, mastering military-applied skills, the formation of professionally important psychological qualities. The most significant changes in EG cadets occurred in overcoming obstacle course, holding the angle on parallel bars, holding the body in a horizontal position, tests for determination of attention distribution and volume, mental performance – at the end of the experiment, and the indicators of EG cadets were significantly (p˂0.05-0.001) better than those of CG.It proves the necessity of correcting the academic program of Physical Education and Special Physical Training for senior cadets with the aim of their psychophysical readiness formation for future professional and combat activity.

Local positioning systems have shown high accuracy for measuring the distance covered and the mean velocities and also for time-motion analysis. However, no study has assessed the accuracy and inter-unit agreement of local positioning system [LPS] technology to compute any collective tactical behavior variable. The main aim of the study was to analyze the accuracy of ultra-wideband and calculate inter-device agreement to compute the geometrical center coordinates (i.e., the relative positioning of each team represented in a single point computed considering x and y coordinates of the players). The inter-device geometrical center agreement of the devices when placed in the corners [static] of a basketball court was also assessed. The geometrical center (x, y coordinates) computed by a local positioning system tool, called an inertial measurement unit, was compared to the known geometrical center position in four different court areas: [1] 15x7 m, [2] 15x14 m [3] 15x21 m [4] 15x28 m. In each of the court areas, two different devices were placed on three tripods [60 cm from the floor] in three corners of the perimeter described. The distance of the device to the reference element was calculated every 0.5 s, providing a total of 600 samples. The absolute difference between the geometrical center measured on the ultra-wideband devices and the real geometrical center was less than 0-1.1%, with an absolute difference of 0 to 0.09 m in all the court areas. The difference between the devices when the geometrical center was computed was from 0.14 to 1.36%, with an absolute difference of 0.02 to 0.09 m. The accuracy of the ultra-wide band and inter-device agreement for computing the geometrical center was high (absolute error < 10 cm). These findings may suggest future validation protocols of the ultra-wide band for the assessment of collective tactical variables in team sports under a real match or training conditions.
