The wear and fatigue life of actuators is a topic of great interest in the field of Industrial Automation since linear actuators are essential components to many machine tools and robots. The fatigue life of a linear actuator closely relates to many factors such as loads lubrication, material properties, surface properties, pressure, and temperature. Therefore, the fatigue life cannot be modeled without a simultaneous consideration of solid mechanics, fluid dynamics, contact mechanics, and thermal dynamics. Despite of numerous publications in past 50 years, research is in a great demand in predicting fatigue life of linear actuators. We are motived to model and validate the fatigue life of lead screw actuators. Firstly, the theory of asperity contact and the Archard's model of sliding wear are applied to estimate the amount of wear under given circumstances. Secondly, a test platform is developed based on a standard ASTM test protocol, and the wear phenomenon at the ball-on-flat sliding is measured to validate the developed wear model. Thirdly, the finite element analysis is conducted to assess the contact stresses in the assembly model of actuators. The estimated data from three sources are merged to formulate a mathematical model in predicting the fatigue life of lead-screw actuators.

In the environment of shortwave radio communication with all kinds of interferences, it is essential for an accurate and real-time observation of signals. In this article, a scheme for a hardware software co-design of a broadband-intermediate-frequency (IF) multi-frequency shortwave signal observation system is proposed. Firstly, the system samples IF shortwave signals, using the direct IF digital sampling technique performed by the high-speed analog-to-digital converter (ADC), into the field programmable gate array (FPGA) for real-time processing. Secondly, multiple intermediate frequencies are down converted into base band for analysis with FPGA serving as the digital down converter. Finally, multiple display contents including waveform, spectrum and spectrogram are generated by the system. The proposed system provides advantages of miniaturization, portability, real-time and rich display contents.

To overcome the shortcomings of the micro integrated starter/generator (ISG) and the mild ISG, this paper designs a novel ISG-HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) that contains three kinds of hybrid propulsion modes: micro, mild, full. Firstly, the mode switch is divided into two layers to reduce the complexity of control algorithm. Then, the division of the working modes and the electric driving modes are constructed respectively. Lastly, the control strategy designed is simulated from the switch of working modes, the change of the electrical system power ratio λ and part performances of the internal combustion engine (ICE), the ISG, the electric motor/generator (EMG) and batteries in ADVISOR. The results show that the control strategy presented can ensure the good fuel economy on the basis of the satisfactory dynamic performance, meanwhile, maintain battery SOC within its operation range.

The ability to simultaneously manipulate multiple magnetic particle (or beads) opens up new opportunities in conducting large-scale studies involving multiple biological objects. In this paper we present the development of two control schemes, namely PI control with an arbitrary control sequence and optimal control with a selected control sequence, for simultaneous position-regulation of magnetic beads under disturbances. A set of simulation studies were conducted in COMSOL to examine the effectiveness of the PI control, while a numerical simulation was carried out in MATLAB to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed optimal control in dealing with a more complex situation that was modeled as a switched LQR problem. Particle Tracing Module for COMSOL was implemented to model the bead-fluid interaction during simulations. The results show the feasibility of both schemes in coordinated regulation of bead positions.

For power transmission line detection, the multiple lasers of different wavelengths are used to location. Because of the sophisticated effects of environmental light and background elements, it's difficult to extract the laser spot. So, this paper presented a method of hybrid-laser image spot extract based on HSV space SVD for power transmission line detection, which the multiple laser spot in hybrid-laser image is formed on the target object. First, it extracts the detection spots from the hybrid-laser image. Second, it separates the detection spots at different wavelengths. Final, the paper by experiment show that this method is very effective and can accurately extract the laser spot of different wavelengths.

In recent years, wireless sensor and actor networks (WSANs) have become the subject of most studies about sensor networks because of their complexity and the vastness of the field. Keeping the connection between actors in WSANs is a matter of great importance. Failure of one or more actors can segregate the networks into several segments and consequently, stop the network operating properly. The aim of this paper is to propose a new method, named DGR, which utilizes the genetic algorithm to restore and keep the inter-actor connectivity of actors. After collecting the required data, some changes will be incorporated in the network architecture to reach an improved architecture for WSANs. DGR handles one possible case of multi-actor failure in two centralized and distributed stages. Using this proposed method and the effective localization of active nodes; more backup nodes will be achieved and restored with distributing processing efficiently. The obtained results from conducted simulations in the OMNet++ simulators demonstrate that DGR out performs Rim, DCR and DARA in the case of one failed node and RAM in the case of several failed nodes.

In this paper, we present an integrated approach of multiple algorithms for visual localization and object tracking. First, a spatial point monocular vision range model is established. Combined with vision technology, we can deduce a precise position of the target in the world frame, and the region of recognized object is regarded as the real tracking region. Second, The Camshift/Kalman/Particle algorithm has been fused to resolve some common problems in video tracking, such as background interference, target with sudden move, occlusion, dim-small size and etc. Finally, a monocular vision range experiment and a target object tracking experiment are carried out. In order to complete the autonomous navigation experiment, both the visual localization method and target object tracking algorithm are implemented on the robot. These experimental results show the validity of our approaches.

In this paper, we introduce a fractional differential HIV/AIDS infected model with Beddington-DeAngelis functional response rate. Moreover as for a feature, we consider cure rate of infected CD4 T cells. We show that the model introduced in this paper has nonnegative solutions which are all bounded. What is more, we also give a detailed analysis for the asymptotic stability of both the free equilibrium and the infected equilibrium. We have proven that if the basic reproduction number R0 is less than unity, then the disease-free equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable. If R0 is greater than unity, the infected equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable under some conditions.

Organizational culture is context-specific and it can impact organizational effectiveness in certain mechanism. From Competing Values Framework (CVF) prospective, this study examines the correlations among organizational culture, organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), and organizational effectiveness. Furthermore, this study analyzes the possible mediating role of OCB in the relationship between organizational culture and organizational effectiveness. A questionnaire-based survey was used to measure the related constructs. The results suggest that OCB partially mediates the impact of organizational culture on organizational effectiveness. The results also indicate the feasibility of impact mechanism of organizational culture on effectiveness. The research findings provide the implications for project management literature and practices.

Rigidity is one of the primary motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease. In order to quantitatively assess parkinsonian rigidity, an examiner repeatedly extends and flexes the patient's joint and the applied force on the both side need to be recorded with a force sensor-based wearable device. However, choosing of the force sensors is the key factor for a wearable rigidity assessment system. In this study, a series of force sensors for rigidity quantification are introduced; and the implementation of a prototype based on several force sensitive resistors (FSRs) is presented. This study is helpful for those who want to realize parkinsonian rigidity quantification or invent the devices to help the disabled people.
