Deploying a BTLE positioning system: Practical issues on calibration 部署BTLE定位系统:校准的实际问题

Nowadays, the Bluetooth Low-Energy (BTLE) technology is integrated in numerous smartphones and beacons, but there is still an open challenge on delivering a presence-into-zone positioning system that facilitates the design and reconfiguration of the service zones and offers stable target tracking. In this paper, we report the experience gained from the deployment of a BTLE zone-based positioning system in a retail setting with defined service objectives. The algorithm powering the positioning system requires previous calibration, which comes to be a tedious and long invasive process when it is accomplished in a space with high people flow. The paper describes our work to minimize the calibration effort, by analyzing the effect of calibration samples reduction and proposing the application of a on-the-move calibration strategy that facilitates the calibration dynamics preserving the system's correct recognition rate.

A distance-based interest forwarding protocol for vehicular information-centric networks 一种基于距离的车载信息中心网络兴趣转发协议

Recently, information-centric networking has been proposed to VANETs scenarios for improving content delivery of infotainment applications. Using the ICN paradigm, content-oriented search and in-network caching have the potential to improve content delivery in spatial- and time-dependent applications for VANETs and smart transportation. However, uncontrolled Interest packet transmissions for content search will result in a waste of resources and diminish the performance of VANETs' applications. In this paper, we propose a lightweight protocol to tackle the Interest broadcast storm problem during a content search in information-centric VANETs. The proposed protocol considers the distance between a current forwarder and its neighboring vehicles to opportunistically control redundant Interest packet transmissions in vehicular named data networking. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol improves the content delivery rate by 60% while decreases the Interest packet transmissions by 40%, in the scenario of a low number of content producers in the network.

Joint hybrid RF/baseband transceiver design for multi-user MIMO downlink in millimeter wave communication system 毫米波通信系统中多用户MIMO下行链路射频/基带联合混合收发器设计

Millimeter wave (mmWave) communication systems employ hybrid RF/baseband transceivers that divide the spatial signal processing into radio frequency and baseband domains in order to reduce the hardware complexity resulting from the use of large number of antennas elements. In this paper, we consider two designs for hybrid multi-user MIMO downlink that minimizes the sum mean square error (SMSE), based on perfect channel knowledge (non-robust design) and transceiver design considering the channel imperfections (robust design). In the robust design, the channel state information (CSI) is assumed to be perturbed by estimation error and follows Gaussian distribution with known error variance. In both the designs, reduced hardware complexity is achieved by analog-digital hybrid processing by using orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP)-based sparse signal processing. We evaluate the performance of both the proposed schemes based on various parameters and also compare it with conventional fully-digital system. We present numerical results over various dictionaries. The comparison results show that robust design is resilient to the presence of CSI errors. Furthermore, we also demonstrate the convergence of both the proposed algorithms to a limit even though global convergence is hard to prove due to non convex nature of overall optimization problem.

Channel-based mapping diversity for enhancing the physical layer security in the Internet of Things 基于通道的映射多样性,增强物联网的物理层安全性

Demand of minimal hardware requirement and low energy consumption for internet of things (IoT) has gained the importance of techniques enhancing the physical layer security. Looking at this, we propose a channel-based mapping diversity (CBMD) scheme for a source (S), destination (D) pair to increase the average bit error rate (ABER) at an eavesdropper (E). CBMD leads to an ABER of 0.5 at E when the channels between S — D and S — E are independent. In the case where S — D and S — E are correlated (due to the proximity of E at D), we derive an optimal strategy at E which leads to the best performance at E. We also derive an optimal strategy at S, assuming E uses its optimal strategy, thereby, considering the worst case scenario. A sub-optimal strategy is also proposed at S which does not require any statistical information about the link S — E and hence, has low implementation complexity. We analyze the variation of ABER at E with the signal to noise ratio (SNR) and the channel correlation coefficient. Our simulation results demonstrate that CBMD indeed leads to significant performance degradation at E even at moderate channel correlation for a properly chosen strategy.

Sharpe ratio for joint user association and subcarrier allocation design in downlink heterogeneous cellular networks 下行异构蜂窝网络中联合用户关联和子载波分配设计的夏普比率

This paper considers a user association (UA) design for the base station (BS) and subcarrier (SC) allocation where a BS allocates different number of SCs to different users associated to it in a downlink heterogeneous cellular network. In jointly optimising the UA and SC allocation, we propose to use the Sharpe Ratio as the utility function for the optimisation objective. The Sharpe ratio is defined as the ratio between the mean of user achievable rates to its standard deviation. With this objective, the achieved user rates will be closer to each other, leading to a fair network access. To reduce the computational complexity of the solution, a simplified method based on binary Belief Propagation (BP) algorithm is proposed. Simulation results show that the achievable user rates are doubled in comparison with other schemes. The low computational complexity of the proposed method is achieved through BP solver by reducing the edges of the factor graph.

Enhance cell-edge rates by amplify-forward shared relays in dense cellular networks 在密集蜂窝网络中通过放大转发共享中继提高蜂窝边缘速率

This paper explores the benefits of deploying multi-antenna half-duplex amplify-and-forward shared relays at the cell-edge to assist the downlink transmission in a multiple-input multiple-output wireless cellular network. We design the relay node to provide extra spatial dimensions to multiple receivers at the same time for interference mitigation and signal enhancement. This paper proposes an efficient algorithm to solve the non-convex problem of jointly optimizing the transmit beamforming and relay combining matrices to a stationary point by extending the celebrated weighted minimum mean squared error (WMMSE) algorithm. We show that the optimized relaying strategy can significantly improve the long-term average rates of cell-edge users in a cellular network, even after accounting for the extra bandwidth required for halfduplex relaying.

On the generation of α-η-κ-μ samples with applications α-η-κ-μ样品的生成及其应用

The aim of this paper is to propose a simple and efficient algorithm to generate white samples for the envelope of the α-η-κ-μ fading model. To this end, capitalizing on results available in the literature, the random number generator is implemented via the acceptance-rejection approach. The goodness-of-fit is objectively measured via the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. We also address the performance of a digital communications system over the α-η-κ-μ fading channel in terms of the average bit error rate showing the impact of the fading parameters as an application for the random sequence generator. Theoretical and simulation results are contrasted, validating the accuracy of the generator.

Integrating PNC and RLNC for BSM dissemination in VANETs 整合PNC和rnc在VANETs中的BSM传播

Basic Safety Messaging (BSM) is a crucial application to provide road safety in vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANET). This paper proposes an efficient and reliable MAC protocol for BSM packets dissemination based on the framework of Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC). It perfectly integrates Physical-Layer Network Coding (PNC) and Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC) in both roadside unit (RSU) and onboard unit (OBU) nodes. Comprehensive simulation shows that compared with the existing schemes for BSM dissemination, the proposed protocol achieves both high flexibility and excellent performance in packet delivery ratio (PDR).

Enhanced range-free localization in wireless sensor networks using a new weighted hop-size estimation technique 利用一种新的加权跳数估计技术增强无线传感器网络的无距离定位

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have recently enabled many new applications often dubbed ”smart” as a result of it. And researchers are currently giving much attention to localization in WSNs for the increasing number its use cases in real life. Two main localization categories prevail in the literature: range-based and range-free. The latter exploit the networks connectivity information in order to approximate the nodes locations, while the former accomplishes that by measuring actual distances. One of the widely investigated range-free WSN localization techniques is the DV-Hop. In this paper, we will develop and analyze the performance of a new enhanced version of this reference technique using a novel weighted hop-size expression. The simulation results indicate an improvement of the performance in terms of accuracy.

Experimental characterization of geometry-based channel models in suburban microcells 郊区微蜂窝中基于几何的通道模型的实验表征

This paper evaluates MIMO radio channel measurements at 3.8 GHz, conducted in various urban microcellular environments in the city of Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. Large-scale parameters, such as shadow fading, delay and angular spreads as well as dense multipath power are extracted and compared with values provided by existing models. A joint specular-dense multipath cluster-based model is then parametrized from the experimental data, detailing cluster spread and correlation properties.
