Leadership competence is the ability to exercise the prescribed skills and behavior of a given task. The responsibilities that the University of Bohol Supreme Student Government (UBSSG) officials are facing involve transitioning quickly from their usual daily teenage activities to that being young leaders. In this connection, the researchers deemed it imperative to assess the leadership competence of the UBSSG officials for the school year 2018-2019. This study used a standardized descriptive questionnaire as the main instrument in gathering data from the target respondents. The findings show that the highest-rated leadership competencies of UBSSG were Diversity Learning (Very Competent), Self-Responsibility (Very Competent), and Integrity (Very Competent); and the three lowest-rated leadership competencies of UB SSG are Cross-functional Teamwork (Moderately Competent), Business Acumen (Moderately Competent), and Empowerment (Very Competent). The overall composite mean is 3.38 (Very Competent). The researchers are hopeful that those concerned will take into consideration the findings of this study and take steps that include but are not limited to the conduct of financial management training for sustainable finances, team-building activities, and linkages among departments.

Parenting styles provide the emotional climate for interaction between parents and children and have a significant impact on the family’s quality of life. School performance is considered as the adolescents’ capacity to interact effectively with the school environment by getting the general point average of their grades in the four quarters of School Year 2018-2019. This paper examined the effects of parenting styles on self-esteem and school performance among the Senior High students of Tubigon, Bohol, Philippines. The study utilized the descriptive normative survey method of research in gathering data through the use of a standardized survey tool in getting the parenting styles and self-esteem of the respondents. Data mining or desk review was conducted in securing the academic performance of the Senior High School of Tubigon, Bohol. Data were processed using averaging, Freeman Halton Test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Chi-Square. The majority of the 400 respondents yielded similar results in the four parenting styles, first is authoritative in both mothers (52.5 percent) and fathers (46.5 percent). It is followed by the permissive, father (21.5 percent), and mother (17.8 percent). It is followed by ambivalent parenting with fathers (18.8 percent) and mothers (17 percent). The majority (75.5 percent) of the respondents have high self-esteem. Almost a fourth (24.5 percent) had average self-esteem, and no one reflected low self-esteem. Nearly half (45.8 percent) of the total number of respondents had satisfactory school performance, more than a third (36 percent) had an outstanding rating, above a tenth (14 percent) had Very Satisfactory, and very few reflected Fairly Satisfactory (4.3 percent) results. The result of the Freeman-Halton test revealed that there is no statistically significant association between the fathers’ and mothers’ parenting styles and the age groups of the respondents. The Chi-square test revealed that the parenting styles of both the father (X2=7.717, df=3, p<0.10) and the mother (X2 =7.683, df=3, p<0.05) are statistically associated with the sex of the respondents. As to the relationship between self-esteem and academic performance, chi-square revealed a significant result. There is strong evidence of a difference (p-value < 0.05) between the mean ranks of at least one pair of the indicated categories. There is strong evidence that suggests that parenting styles have some bearing on how students perform at school.

The antioxidant activity of Avicennia alba Blume, (1826) leaf extract was determined using 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) Free Radical Scavenging Activity Assay. Petroleum ether and 95 % ethanol were used as solvents in two separate macerations. Only the ethanol-free extract (TSB) exhibited antioxidant activity; it showed a color change from purple to light yellow similar to positive control (ascorbic acid solution) and a decrease in absorbance relative to negative control (95% ethanol). The results of the DPPH free radical scavenging activity assay was subjected to statistical analysis using one way ANOVA then post hoc analysis results of TSB showed no significant difference vs positive control, a percentage antioxidant activity of 68.24% ± 12.23 and 76.43% ± 9.22 respectively. The ethanol-free extract (TSB) underwent phytochemical screening by test tube method where it revealed the presence of saponins, tannins, flavonoids, and glycosides. It was then subjected to column chromatography for partial purification of its chemical compounds; fractions from the eulates were collected and were pooled according to their specifically Rf values. The fractions that showed significant spots under UV light were fractions 1 and 2; and fractions 4 and 5. These two sets of fractions were tested to DPPH free radical scavenging assay. Both fractions showed similar color change as the positive control and a decrease in absorbance relative to the negative control. Fractions 1&2 showed 69.97% ± 2.439 percentage antioxidant activity which had no significant difference to the positive control with the highest antioxidant activity of 87.88% ± 3.357 .The p-value (<0.01) obtained manifested that there was significant difference between the test solutions with their antioxidant activity. After DPPH assay, the most active fractions 1 & 2, were subjected to FT-IR and GC-MS. Infrared spectrum showed the presence of aliphatic C-H bonds, C=O bond, and –OH bonds while the GC-MS analysis revealed five compounds which were based on the molecular ion showed at m/z = 537.4. The functional groups present in the compounds from FT-IR and GC-MS analyses and the secondary metabolites present in phytochemical screening seemed to be responsible for the antioxidant activity of Avicennia alba leaf extracts.

Financial literacy is the capacity to analyze financial options, plan for the future, and respond appropriately to events. This study intends to look into the association between financial literacy and financial management. The study utilized a quantitative approach employing a descriptive normative survey of a modified survey questionnaire on financial literacy and financial management. The respondents of the study were the participants of the annual national conference of the Grace Gospel Church of Christ, which was held in Iloilo City on April 22-27, 2019 with 250 adult respondents. The questionnaire on Financial Literacy and Management Practices was used to measure the financial literacy of individuals. The questionnaire considered the most critical personal finance factors in the measurement of the level of financial knowledge literacy and the financial decision-making on financial practices (Cronbach’s Alpha results of Financial Literacy of 0.929, Financial Management of 0.738). It was found that the Normality Test utilizing the Shapiro-Wilk yielded significant results in almost all items. Hence, non-parametric tests were used in the statistical runs. To ensure the “do-no-harm,” after complying with the consenting forms, the researchers submitted them to the Ethics Review Committee as an assurance that the researchers followed the ethics protocol. Financial Literacy and Management Practices significantly differ in each of the three groups in the congregation namely Leaders (t=11.567, exact sig=0.000), Non-Leaders between financial literacy and management practices by rank in the congregation (t=12.431, exact sig=0.000), and Members (t=23.930, exact sig=0.000). T-Test showed significant differences between the financial management practice on Personal/Family Budget and Financial Decision-Making.

Assessing teachers’ attitudes in the implementation of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) is essential for the success of this new paradigm shift in the educational system. This study used a descriptive research design where the researcher gathered quantitative data utilizing a survey questionnaire to assess the attitude fostered by the teachers of the University of Bohol towards OBE. It further assessed the level of its implementation in the four major areas: formulation and alignment of learning outcomes, curriculum content and structure, teaching-learning process, and assessment. Findings of the study revealed that the respondents’ age, length of teaching experience, and highest educational attainment have no direct relationship to OBE implementation. However, the respondents’ age is directly related to the level of its implementation. Results also revealed that teachers who have a highly favorable attitude towards OBE are more motivated and willing to carry out the overall processes that necessitate OBE implementation. For a change in education to be effective and long-lasting, teachers need to view the entire OBE process as desirable and necessary. With a strong determination and purpose combined with a collaborative effort between the school administrators, teachers, students, and other stakeholders, indeed successful implementation of this newly adopted curriculum in higher education institutions will reach far beyond one could imagine.

Theories on work engagement posited that engaged employees are physically, cognitively, and emotionally driven to attain organizational goals. Thus, they produce high levels of workplace productivity. Workplace productivity indexes serve as a parameter that measures how satisfactorily employees are doing and what motivates them to achieve higher goals and higher levels of efficiency and effectiveness. This study aimed to determine the level of work engagement of the human capital of the university as measured by workplace productivity. A quantitative-descriptive method with the use of the Workplace Productivity Snapshot Tool was utilized in the conduct of the research. The data collected were analyzed and interpreted using simple percentages, weighted mean, and one-way Analysis of Variance. Results showed that the UB employees were highly productive in building leadership and management capability, organizing work, networking, and collaboration, and measuring what matters. However, they are moderately productive in creating productive workplace cultures, encouraging innovation, and the use of technology, and investing in people and skills. Workplace Productive Snapshot Tool yielded moderately productive as those needing continuing feedback, monitoring, and evaluation to keep up with individual and environmental challenges. Based on the salient findings, it is elemental to determine the learning and development needs. Such will enable the employee to improve performance and achieve higher workplace productivity continually.

This feasibility study aims to establish a University of Bohol Student Center in Tagbilaran City. The main proponent of this research is the University of Bohol, and the participants are college students of the University of Bohol. The establishment of the student center will be situated particularly in Tabaco Street Tagbilaran City. The goal of the study is to determine the viability of establishing a UB Student Center in the different aspects, namely; management, marketing, technical, financial, and socio-economic, respectively. This study used researcher-made questionnaires to gather data from the respondents. The researchers used questionnaires with randomly selected respondents with a total of 360 students from different colleges at the University of Bohol. Based on the conducted research, the researchers found out that UB Student Center is feasible in all aspects covered by this study. The majority of the target respondents are willing to patronize the student center with appropriate facilities and equipment to be offered to their students. With proper management and competent personnel in imposing policies and guidelines, the student center will be efficient and effective in the conduct of business operations. The student center shows profitability is feasible, and the investment is expected to be recouped within twelve years and three months. This feasibility study will contribute a social and economic advantage to the community. The researchers recommend that marketing programs and efforts shall be administered to announce the establishment of the student center publicly.

In the K-12 Curriculum, the Senior High School Curricula tend to neglect purely grammar disciplines as it focuses on English literature. The study intended to identify the grammatical competence of the Grade 11 learners of Ubay National Science High School for the academic year 2018-2019. The study was quantitative research using a purposive random sampling design employing the modified questionnaire based on the English for Linguistics Project (Malicsi, 2017). The tool was pre-tested and underwent item analysis for the reliability and validity of the test questions. The subjects were 139 Grade 11 learners enrolled from the four strands offered by the school. The data were collected, tallied, and treated. Results revealed that morphology was the area where the learners are highly competent, and they are moderately competent in both semantics and syntax. Generally, the grammatical competence among Grade 11 learners is “moderately competent.” There is a significant degree of variance in the three areas of grammar. The variance lies in the area of morphology containing the word inflections and compounding in which learners got most of the high scores.

Language anxiety is a complex psychological construct described as an apprehension that occurs when a language student performs a second or foreign language. Academic performance is referred to as the grades of the students in the English subject. The study aimed to determine English Anxiety in relation to the academic performance of the respondents. This study used a descriptive survey method of assessing the level of English language anxiety and the academic performance of the students in English. Documentary analysis was used for academic performance in the English subject of the School Year, 2017-2018. The result revealed that students at the University of Bohol- Senior High School have a low level of English Anxiety. This result showed that language anxiety significantly affected the academic performance of the students in which the higher the English language Level of Anxiety, the lesser the academic performance of the students. Teachers should provide a healthy environment and a conducive learning atmosphere. The language instructor should have a stringent-free approach and a friendly personality so that the students won’t be frightened in making a mistake in the language class. It is also vital that students should be encouraged to speak up and let them practice both esteem and English language proficiency. Above all, there should be an integration between the English curriculum and extra-curricular activities to motivate students to use it for further competitions. Extra-curricular activities should be a vehicle for the enhancement and development of students’ skills.
