Joseph Hiriart was one of the principal architects of the Exposition des Arts decoratifs industriels et modernes, in Paris (1925). From his studio in Paris, together with his associates Georges Beau and Georges Tribout, he designed a set of brilliant works, among which the ones carried out in the Basque Country. In 1927, in view of the economic recession and after partnering with Jean-Marcel Seignouret, Hiriart opened a studio in Tunis. For ten years, they carried out a series of residential and educational projects that, even though they are memorable, have remained in oblivion. It is time to know about them.

The Chapel of Santa Catalina in Burgos Cathedral presents a similar vaulting to that of the Barbazana Chapel in Pamplona Cathedral. The work in Burgos may have preceded the one in Pamplona, and this article provides some evidence in this regard. Funerary chapels of the second half of the 14th century and the late Gothic period in Castile relate to its new spatial and architectural configuration. In religious architecture, their imprint extends to the end of the 15th century.

The article studies the portraits of dervishes and the traditional scenes of the Islamic brotherhoods carried out by the orientalist painter Josep Tapiro Baro (Reus 1836 - Tangier 1913). Formal language and its iconography are analyzed in relation to the photographs of human types and Moroccan customs taken in Tangier in the last third of the 19th century and the first years of the 20th century. It also reflects on the ethnographic realism of which the works of Tapiro are outstanding exponents.

From the first contacts between Spain and Japan, one of the facets that has most attracted the attention of the land of the rising sun is everything related to the warrior nobility or samurai class. In this article we will analyze the Japanese swords present in the public collections of the Basque Country. This scientific investigation supposes a pioneering and reasoned study on these pieces, based on the most recent publications in the field of Japanese weapons, incorporating previously unpublished translations.

The Biscayans Pedro and Francisco de Artiaga carried out their activity as master builders in Galicia in the second half of the 16th century. In particular in two provincial and episcopal capitals such as Lugo and Mondonedo, where they worked for both cathedrals, designed and built two town halls and carried out many public works. Since they are a little known in historiography, in this paper we will analyze their biography, professional career, and artistic personality.

Throughout the 19th century the use of wallpaper as a decorative wall covering became widespread throughout Spain. The creation of a large number of factories specialised in this ornamental product and the incorporation of new technologies allowed a significant increase in production with the consequent reduction in price. At the same time, the emergence of a large number of small shops helped to popularise it. In this way, it adapted to the tastes and fashions of the moment, becoming an indispensable element in the interior decoration of homes.
