Francisco Sabando is an Alava's Neoclassicism key fgure. He was born in Labastda and was inscribed at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Madrid, becoming one of the frst neoclassic architects in Alava, La Rioja and Navarra. This paper ofers new informaton about his born, his family, their bonds with the Moraza family, his contact with neoclassic artsts from Vitoria and Logrono and the works known nowadays. This informaton allows us to appreciate the evoluton of Sabando from a traditonal, rococo style artst to an academic architect and sculptor.

This article focuses on a Romanist a tabernacle which, due to its architectural, sculptural and iconographic characteristcs, could be considered exemplary of the artistic context of Alava at the end of the 16 th century. At this moment, new regulations from Trento prevailed in the Calahorra-La Calzada diocese, demanding more atention upon Eucharistc furniture, and artsts were capable of answering to these devotional demands through a new artistic style. This style, which we call Romanism, was triumphant, showing a clear infuence of Michelangelo.

This article is focused in the collection of Josefa Marin, Countess of Velle, one of the most fascinating personalites among the collectors and connoisseurs during the reign of Isabella II. The nature of her collection difered remarkably from that of contemporary collectors. Untl now, there was no particular informaton available on the countess' interest in art afairs. However, her private archive and other diferent sources provided a real treasure of unpublished information about her art gallery.
