With an ever increasing demand for bandwidths in lightwave communication networks. DWDM with a channel spacing of ≤0.8 nm plays an important role. This requires DWDM devices with a flat-top transmission spectrum, a high channel isolation and low insertion loss for the EDFA flat gain wavelength range [1]. In this paper, DWDM devices with a 0.4 nm channel spacing using apodized FBGs and bandpass WDM filters (BWDM) in cost-effective structures are demonstrated.

Anomalously Fast Response of Photorefractive Lithium Tantalate and Niobate 光折变钽酸锂和铌酸锂的异常快速响应

It is well known that in photorefractive lithium tantalate and niobate, photoinduced light scattering (PHILS) and holographic-type parametric scattering (HTPS) [1] are possible. In PHILS light is scattered by a set of random holographic gratings, and HTPS is scattering by a subset of these gratings satisfying the four-wave phase matching condition. The characteristic time of recording such gratings is defined by the Maxwell time τm ~ε/4πσ (here ε is the dielectric function and σ the electric conductivity of the crystal), which can vary in LiNbO3 and LiTaO3 from some minutes to many hours depending on the pump intensity.

Recently, medical and dental applications of lasers have been increasing due to their non-invasive and selective characteristics. This includes for example, drilling teeth and removing port wine stains. Laser inactivation processes have been previously studied [1,2]. Ultra-violet radiation processes are well known, in which thymine dimers inhibit correct replication of the DNA during the cell's reproduction. However, UV radiation sterilization systems are often restricted because of their low penetration power.

Optical System for Page Organized Optical Storage Device 页组织光存储设备的光学系统

A new page organized optical storage device has been developed and functionally tested. The device consists of fields processed parallel with 256 × 256 bits and uses blue laser light for writing and red light for reading binary data when using a polyester recording layer1. A micromirror device serves the purpose of parallel light modulation and an appropriate CCD array is used for parallel data processing.

In recent years numerous reports on pulsed laser ablation of metals using various laser sources have fostered the discussion regarding the limitations due to thermal diffusion to produce feature sizes on (sub-)micron scale smaller than the diffusion length. Particularly in the light of novel micromachining applications, the relative benefits of using pulsed nanosecond (ns) lasers in the visible, such as copper vapour lasers and frequency doubled Nd:YAG, versus femtosecond (fs) Ti:Sapphire lasers operating in the infrared, remains debatable.

The surface cleaning effect is investigated here using Nd YAG and Excimer User irradiation The different kind of mechanisms encountered are studied as function of laser interaction parameters: energy density: 0.1J/cm2 - 10J/cm2, pulse duration : 10ns - 20ns, wave length radiation: 248nm - 532nm - 1064nm, laser repetition rate: 1Hz - 200Hz.

Usually, when collecting longitudinal OCT slices (slices roughly perpendicular to the surface of the retina), an OCT has to be assisted by a scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO), a fundus camera or a simple CCD visualisation unit to guide the selection of the image to be taken. Quite often, the procedure has to be repeated several times to locate some features in the retina. With a system as described in this paper, once a collection of transversal (roughly parallel to the retina) OCT images is stored, a longitudinal image at any position can be synthesised.

Synthesis and Spectroscopic Investigation of Yb/sup 3+/-Er/sup 3+/-Codoped LaLiP/sub 4/O/sub 12/ Glasses Relevant for Laser Applications Yb/sup 3+/-Er/sup 3+/-共掺LaLiP/sub 4/O/sub 12/激光相关玻璃的合成与光谱研究

We are involved in Yb'*-E?sodoped phosphate glass research for eye-de laser source near 1535 nm, wavelength corresponding to the 'Ilt7+'l13~ E? transition [I]. Undoped and doped glasses of the composition Laz03-Li20-P20,, with L ~ L ~ P , O I ~ fonnulq have been synthesised. Absorption tiom the 'Ii5? E+and 'F,,? Yb" ground states have been investigated. Under pumping Yb'' ions at 975 q we have studied both E? ion emission spectra and excited state dynamics ~ f ' l ~ ~ , ~ and *Ilm E? ion levels. The emission cross-mtion of the 'Im+'Its> transition at 1535 mn is high. A comparison with the 'Ill?+'Lz excited state absorption @SA) band shows that there is no overlap between them. This mthat this ESA will not perturb the emission around 1535 mn. The ludd-Ofell intensiry parameters R, (1 = 2, 4, 6) for E? ions have been calculated in order to duermine the radiative lifetimes, the branching ratios of the transitions and the oscillator strength ofthe excited state absorption %2-+'h Similar results for n, have been found previously P I The hieh Iiequency Raman peak shape, localised around 1200 cm", is well defined and then, this enables U% to conclude that such glass is more ordered than ofher glasses. In addition, the thermal conductivity is high for a phosphate glass. In order to characterise the laser performances of this new glarq we are planning to measure gain parmeters.

This mthat this ESA will not perturb the emission around 1535 mn. The ludd-Ofell intensiry parameters R, (1 = 2, 4, 6) for E? ions have been calculated in order to duermine the radiative lifetimes, the branching ratios of the transitions and the oscillator strength ofthe excited state absorption %2-+'h Similar results for n, have been found previously P I The hieh Iiequency Raman peak shape, localised around 1200 cm\", is well defined and then, this enables U% to conclude that such glass is more ordered than ofher glasses. In addition, the thermal conductivity is high for a phosphate glass.
