Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been in power since fifteen years. His controversial personality makes him a character apart in contemporary Turkish history. This article aims to demonstrate that its success, like that of its party the AKP, comes from further afield and has precise sociological and ideological origins. The synthesis between nationalism and Islam is the heart of it.

The present article explores the rules of acting and living in the urban space, on which the images inspired by sensitivity and competences connected with digital and web change are regularly superimposed. This “digital imagination” is such a prime mover that it becomes the dominant model of perception, being and acting in the world today. Its presence and influence are especially significant for constitution of the contemporary memory, as well as for the conditions and ways of using it. My reflections on the status of memory are situated within the dynamics of digital change occurring in the urban space, because it is there where the achievements of the digital revolution catch on with the pioneering speed and involvement. Cities of postmodern fate decided through in categories as: identity, culture of places and space, and memory.

Violence is a subject of high historical recurrence in Colombia, which is why its dynamics have been approached from different approaches; some approaches seek to analyze the objective and subjective processes; others, in the light of the actors (victim-victimizers). This paper analyzes the opportunities generated by collective actions for the creation of public policies that guarantee the recognition of victims in specific contexts of violence. This study started with a conceptual review of three main categories: “collective action”, “contexts of violence”, and “public policies”, from the hermeneutical paradigm.

Narratives and stories of teachers' experiences in pre-service and in-service education are commonly used to understand the identities of language teachers, as they tend to be influenced by their life experiences and are stored in their memories. However, the concept of post-memory has emerged more recently and seems not yet to have been used in language teacher education. In this paper, we discuss the possibilities of using the concept of post-memory in the education of language teachers, through narratives of their life experiences. We intend to explore more deeply the influences of traumatic historical events, such as the Brazilian Military Regime, on the identities of preservice and in-service English teachers in Brazil, through narratives and stories of their experiences. Our main objective is to analyze the relationships and interrelationships among memory, post-memory and life experiences and identities of English teachers, especially in relation to the experiences related to the influences of the Brazilian military period.

This is an article of reflection, proposing a biographical and event-based approach to the phenomenon of pain. In the discussions that are developed here, pain is understood as a referent of spatiotemporal action that transcends the traditional concepts and places of pain in a corporeality that requires physical and moral understanding. The arguments derived from the discussion invite to think about pain from both the personal experience and the shared experience, and opens the question as to whether such experiences are a platform for political action.

In Hannah Arendt’s work, the crisis of the education in the twentieth century reflects the collapse of the political and the questioning of its central categories: world and natality. This study links her position regarding education with the political phenomenology scattered throughout the rest of her work. The discussion is developed through a critical analysis of the work of Arendt, with a specific focus on the texts she wrote in her youth, and her link to Heidegger’s thought. Perplexities of the totalitarian phenomenon and its connection with modern changes are the main topic. It is concluded that our modern political crisis turns into a crisis of sense, because it nullifies the world and the human ability to build it: freedom.

In the last decades, the changes of policies in Latin America have provoked alterations in the managing of universities, reducing their autonomy and leaving a governability deficit. These challenges generate a double legitimacy crisis: inner (foundations), and outer (State and organizations). In other words, disempowerment. This article is about the notion of university as an idea in its reality, and takes as an interpretative reference the objective spirit’s dialectics exposed by Hegel in his philosophical system, proposing a critical-comprehensive approach of the idea developing in the autonomy, governability and ethicity moments, spotting the autoconsciousness of ethics in the game of governability.

The purpose of this article is to analyze, from the perspective of the political theory, the role of emotions, passion, and desire in the political practice, in order to find some elements that allow the construction of citizenship competences, from the cultivation of emotions. To this end, the article is divided in three moments: the first one, identifying the political projection of the pathos in the liberal democracies, based on Nussbaum’s political statements; the second moment, releasing emotions, passion and desire by understanding human sexuality as a political act; and, the third moment, determining citizenship competences suggested by the pathos in the political exercise. Finally, it is concluded that passion is the involving whole of man as synthesis of his instinctive and rational dimensions. That is why it is necessary to cultivate emotions that claim the importance of Πάθος in politics.
