This paper presents the characteristics of specifically designed tag (SDT) placed on an autoclaved aerated reinforced lightweight concrete to detect and inspect qualities of material products. The proposed SDT is a folded dipole antenna designed using the CST Microwave Studio simulation program. In this system, the SDT acts as a radio frequency identification (RFID) sensor. Simulated results show that the radius of the reinforced metal has important effects to SDT characteristics placed on material under tests.

Bayesian Compressive Sensing (BCS) is applied for the synthesis of contiguously clustered linear arrays. The standard sub-array problem is formulated as a probabilistic BCS synthesis problem and the Relevance Vector Machine (RVM) is used to obtain a sparse contiguous non-overlapping subarray configuration which has maximal far-field pattern match with a given reference pattern. Selected numerical experiment results are reported to validate the synthesis technique.

This paper presents parts of investigations done in a VHF spherical Near-Field system in order to propose appropriate measurement procedure. First is briefly presented the mono-probe near field system and measurement challenges due to low frequencies. Then is presented the Antenna Under Test (AUT), the antenna pattern comparison approach and the measurement configurations. Finally, several measurement results using two scans configurations are compared to reference simulation result in order to find the most appropriate way of measurement suited to the measurement facility for the large wavelength considered.

A simplified antenna model technique is described in this work and applied to real engineering problems. The main objective is the prediction of the antenna performance, in terms of radiation patterns and coverage. The presented method shows a versatile and wide applicability, not only for simple and small antennas, but also for complex radiating systems. The method requires minimum information from the antenna and low computational cost.

In early design stages of connected array radiators, passive evaluation using reflected illumination of test coupons without feed electronics provides a quick and inexpensive validation of design models. Inherent in the measurement setup are assumptions about array antenna behavior and acceptable approximations. Particular questions include the minimum number of unit cells necessary to adequately reproduce array characteristics and appropriate illumination functions. In this paper, those assumptions are examined and the implications for performing such measurements are discussed.

This paper deals with the RCS (Radar Cross Section) acquisition procedure in the anechoic chamber of ENSTA Bretagne. This device will be used in the comparison of RCS measurements organized by a French working group (GTi) [1]. One objective of this group is to determine uncertainties in an anechoic chamber from RCS measurements of different targets. In this paper, we present our experimental system and processing performed on the data to obtain the RCS of the object under test. The measurement results are given for canonical and complex targets. The measurements are then compared with some results of simulations computed with FEKO.

A cylindrical near field antenna measurement facility working in the time domain and combining Near Field to Far Field transformation is presented. A transient impulses generator of 3 GHz bandwidth is used as antenna feeder. The received signal is measured in time domain by an UWB sensor connected to a real time oscilloscope. Because this setup is based on outdoor measurement, it offers significant yields in installation and material cost.

The effect of the presence of electronic components on PCB on the characteristics of a small antenna (less than 0.1 wavelengths) has been analyzed and on this basis guidelines for the placement of components is presented in this work. The miniaturized antenna was designed and optimized with the help of a commercial simulation software. Results are useful for designers of small antennas to use the available space on PCB for design compactness.

A method is presented for computing far-field pattern of an antenna under test (AUT) from its near-field measurements taken over an arbitrary geometry (for example hemi sphere). The mathematical formalism and the stability of this method are presented. The effect of reduced signal to noise ratio is studied. The proposed method has been implemented using Matlab software. The numerical validations using analytical radiating model and electromagnetic software results show the efficiency and the stability of the proposed technique.

This paper examined the feasibility of performing bistatic Radar Cross Section (RCS) measurements in the Boris Vian anechoic chamber. To test this anechoic chamber, a small PEC circular cylinder is selected as a target. The capability to measure the bistatic RCS of a target versus frequency and versus target azimuth angle is established. Accurate bistatic RCS measurements are obtained using a Vector Network Analyzer and using background subtraction, bistatic calibration, and software range gating. A method to establish the chamber directivity is proposed. The accuracy of the measurement is estimated and a new value of the RCS sensibility is given as a function of the value of the chamber directivity.
